Philomena sings a stanza from the traditional song, Over the Hills and Far Away. It is an English song dating to the late 17th century, with several different sets of lyrics that have been written over the years. Philomena's song is from a version sung as a duet in The Beggar's Opera written in 1728 by John Gay. Another version, written by George Farquhar in a 1706 play called The Recruiting Officer, became the theme song of the popular Sharpe series starring Sean Bean about a British soldier fighting in the Napoleonic Wars. It was later recorded by John Tams.
