Hello and welcome to the Adele Awards 2016

Warning: Spoilers
"The BRIT Awards 2016" is a pretty self explanatory title as we have the music equivalent to the BAFTAs here or the British equivalent to the Grammys. And the latter could learn a lot from this show here, just like apparently all other American music awards shows, as the Brit Awards stick to the essential, which is giving out awards and the amount of live music was pretty tolerable I'd say. I am not a Rihanna fan at all, but I can see why they included her, even if she is neither British nor her performance had anything to do with awards. The big letdown here is the hosting. As great as Stephen Fry may be, as bad are Ant and Dec. The latter would actually be tolerable on his own, but Anthony McPartlin is 100% cringe regardless of if he is activating the sprinkler system, running around cluelessly in an opulent female dress or being just the most genetically wasted man on the continent. And the worst is he still thinks he is funny. Anyway, back to the show itself. Most of the award winners during this Adele parade did not do too much for me like One Direction and long past-peak Coldplay and Adele herself as I am not a great fan of Hello and the song she sung at the very end, which surprisingly was not Hello, and the performances did not impress me either really. So overall, I cannot really think of any aspect why I would recommend this show here except the fact that they managed to keep the essence of this being an award show and thus it "only" runs for 110 minutes. Still could have been half an hour shorter, preferably with the exclusion of Ant&Dec. I am generally fine with award shows sticking to announcers only instead of hosts like the Golden Globes have handled it in the past, but admittedly the female announcer for the Brit Awards here wasn't on a level where I'D be fine listening to her all night. So overall the weak and forgettable is more frequent than the good in these almost 2 hours. The highlight of the night was certainly the David Bowie tribute by Annie Lennox, Gary Oldman and others. May he rest in peace. The rest of the show you can skip and I give it a thumbs-down.
