The fifth season premiered in the fall of 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic. The team behind American Housewife (2016) decided to pretend the pandemic didn't happen.
Julia Butters originated the role of Anna-Kat Otto in the first four seasons but was replaced in the 5th season with Giselle Eisenberg as Julia Butters left the series to pursue other opportunities.
The house on American Housewife (2016), located on the CBS Studios back lot, is a replica of the "Paramount House" on the Universal Hollywood Backlot. The original Paramount House sits boarded up on a corner of the same Universal back lot where it has been for years.
Of the three Otto children, Oliver is the only one to have been portrayed by the same actor, Daniel DiMaggio, for the series' entire run. Taylor was portrayed by Johnny Sequoyah in the pilot episode before being replaced by Meg Donnelly for the remainder of the series while Anna-Kat was portrayed by Julia Butters for the first four seasons before Giselle Eisenberg took over the role in the fifth and final season.
