Roles of Fat

Rasslers makin' a movie about sumpthin. Off world, or sumpthin. Watched this on Tubi, a free streaming site. Wrong format. Half of the frames were cut off; so you'd see like half a head. Yeah, just the bottom of a face, or whatever. Obese wrestlers with rolls of fat. Pointless film, anyways. Not worth your time.

Warning: Spoilers
Stefano Milla has made gladiator films before and like any good genre parmesan, has kept up with the popular film aesthetics of the time. Thanks probably in part due to the miracles of technology, Rise of the Gladiators actually looks quite decent with a decent grade which complements the cinematography really well. Something that can't be said with the rest of his films. In terms of art design, the film is very Mad Max like with the production values once more being top notch.

However, to your shock and awe most likely, the DVD artwork of Rise of the Gladiators is misleading to say the least. This is not set in ancient rome and scenes featured are barely outside of a cave at that. The story is about warriors from all corners of the earth fighting for a magic sword that isn't excalibur. Templars, Zulus, Samoans, Vikings, Celts also, i think. They all fight it out to see who can get the shiny piece of metal. Sounds like fun, but there is little plot and the majority of Rise of the Gladiators just seems like one long monotonous fight scene.

What made Kingdom of The Gladiators enjoyable was the variety of it's what the ever living. The film felt like it always moving in strange ways. Rise of the Gladiators, though more of a polished production, feels sparse in plot and is paced rather poorly. And i prefer a fast pace and ugly visuals over a sleek looking, yet disparate plot. Though I did find Rikishi to actually be quite good in his role, something I was not expecting.

Anyway, so in conclusion, Rise of the Gladiators is an exhausting film. It's well shot, features some interesting characters, but it too thin in plot to hold interest for long. Bitter disappointment.
