Takehaya's is seeing his plans going awry. Chandler is too close, and with his wife pregnant and the blood transfers just putting off for a while the virus's progress, Takehaya is going to take some difficult decisions.
Curiously, in this episode, Sanada starts to have a chance to really shine. Takehaya is the first 'antagonist', 'other' in the series that is just more than a big bad monster. He has a wife, a child on the way, and he seems to have his reasons to distrust the USA people and their cure. It helps that Sanada can play this kind of roles with ease, a little silence, eyeball movement and a wrinkle of the brow showing and telling more than a hundred hours of someone else's acting.
Which makes the showdown in the island a lot of fun. The Chinese come too, so we have three sides fighting against each other: the Japanese pirates, Peng's people and Chandler and the rest of the Nathan James. Shooting, helicopters, underground tunnels (of course, these people are so silent and... ninja alike... cough cough)... Everything happens.
And Takehaya gets the chance to show some humanity too. Of course, it has to be his wife who helps him to remember it, but at least, after some really cartoonish characters, Takehaya is a relief.
