Reasonable Thriller for Home Video

Chloe Paige (Natasha Henstridge) and her stepson Jacob (Liam Dickinson) live in an isolated mansion in an island. Chloe's husband is traveling and she does not know his whereabouts. One stormy night, Chloe is drinking wine with her friend Alice (Johannah Newmarch) when a car arrives and Alice believes they are strangers needing information. When she leaves the house, she is murdered by a masked man. Chloe closes the front door and calls the police and the home security company. However the police can not cross the bridge that was damaged by the criminals. Meanwhile the trio of criminals breaks in Chloe's house. The security agent Mike (Jason Patric) uses the security cameras to advise Chloe where to hide. The trio is looking for a safe and for Chloe while she is hidden with Jacob. Will the police arrive in time to save Chloe and Jacob?

"Home Invasion" is a reasonable thriller considering that it is home video. The story is simple and tense but the characters have unreasonable attitudes. Chloe does not use her car to break down the gate of the garage and flee with her stepson. She shoots Heflin but does not take his weapon and stays in the fire line with her stepson. Heflin threatens Chloe to open the safe instead of leaving his skilled partner continue his attempt. The criminal in the truck shoots the police officers in a senseless decision since he was one against a group. In addition, there is an electrical power outage on the exact moment that Chloe and Jacob are opening the gate. My vote is six.

I watched this yesterday on tubi. I like Natasha Henstridge and Jason Patric so I thought I'd give it a go.

The tension was pretty good but there were a few stupid parts.

Why would a swing bridge only have controls on one side of the water? If you're That rich, why wouldn't you have a Safe/Panic room? What modern day car garage doesn't have a door for people, just for cars? Why didn't the Home Security guy ask about a weapon in the home as one of the first questions?

If you can get past the stupid parts, it's not a bad thriller.

Keep the change ya filthy animal.......

When a wealthy woman and her stepson are targeted by a expert thieves in their remote mansion, her only form of help comes from a call with a security systems specialist, whom thirty years prior was a boy who may have been lost.

But as the intruders become increasingly hostile and the connection weakens, will she trust him to be her eyes and navigate her to avoid the criminals.....

I always thought home invasion films should be a lot of fun shouldn't they? Family goes on holiday, leaves a member and they scream when applying aftershaves and set booby traps.

Or they have Ethan Hawke in them with weird people with smiles and a sub context damning the American class.....

Well this is neither of those, it's just an atypical thriller along the lines of Trespass but without the subplot of having one of the criminals be a paranoid schizophrenic.

Instead you have the psychotic female who just wants to kill everyone and be done with it, you have the safecracker with the heart of gold, and then you have the against type Scott Adkins.

I think Adkins is brilliant in his suitable genre, kicking butt and harking back to those straight the video action movies that were released in the late eighties/early nineties, but here he's trying to pass as an intellectual mastermind because he wears a suit and speaks clear and concisely.........he doesn't convince.

So we are left with Jason Patric looking like he's had a particularly heavy night before, guiding Natasha Henstrige, looking like she's had a few particularly heavy meals around the house avoiding the criminals who spend the movie staying in the same room.

It's not particularly good, but it's not bothersome either. The cast, Akins aside play their respective parts well, and it throws in some funny clichés, such as a lightning bolt cutting out the power when they needed it the most.

Throw in the stupidest 'fool the criminal' ending, and you have another mundane thriller starring people who were a bit famous twenty years ago.

Simply Awful!

Wow! What a pure waste of time watching this film. I mean from start to finish this was by far one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot. So the movies is about these people who Natasha Henstridge's husband have stolen from, and they arrive at her home to exact what is in a safe behind a wall in the house. The story never tells you anything of the who what when where or how or even the contents of the safe. Its just a home invasion of very upscale home in which they now terrorize a mother and her son. The mother calls their home security service and from there the movies just goes completely down hill. Personally I think this was a major slap in the face to 911 emergency and law enforcement, and nothing but a marketing strategy to get more middle to upper class homeowners to invest in security systems. But after watching this simply awful movie, all I wanna do is go out and get a 9mm and two Doberman. If wanna watch good home invasion movie, which most of you have probably already watched, nothing will beat Panic Room.

"Home Invasion" is a Crime - Drama movie in which we watch three intruders breaking into a house to steal something from a safe while a mother with her son are trapped inside and they are trying to stay safe.

I have to admit that I did not expect much from this movie and I was not disappointed after watching it. It was just another average crime movie which was consisted of very few good scenes, a simple but boring plot and some very poor interpretations made by its cast. The direction which was made by David Tennant was below average and I believe that he did not reach his potential despite the simple plot of the movie. Finally, I have to say that I do not recommend anyone to watch this movie and if you want to watch a far better version of this movie just watch the movie "Panic Room" of 2002.

I cheered for the bad guys

Home Invasion is a movie about good guys who universally act stupid. It's like a slasher film where many end up cheering for the slasher.

While the acting and filming are okay, the heroine's "thinking" and the security guy's advice were idiotic.

SPOILER ALERT! Imagine a home security "911" operator (another hero) finally asking a woman trapped in a home invasion (and after murders have happened) if she had a firearm -- NINETY minutes after the invasion started. (Well, sure -- she never thought of that!).

If that were the only example, I might be able to let it pass. But the heroine and her bozo son can't bring themselves (SPOILER ALERT) to kill the murderous, sadistic bad guys trying to kill them. Sure, knock 'em out, tie 'em up and run. What could go wrong?

It was a great disappointment when the good side triumphed.

Unexpectedly Enjoyable

A really nice film that proved an unexpected joy to watch. I say "unexpected" because of some of the appalling reviews seen here on IMDb, which - in my view - this film does not deserve.

It has a nice pace and storyline that will keep most people entertained and thrilled right to the end. Granted, it may not win an Oscar but it is well made and well acted. Definitely worth a watch despite the negative reviews, some of which I'm sure were written by people who either haven't seen the film or simply haven't a clue about what's good and what isn't. Yes, they're entitled to their opinions but those who are giving this one star clearly do not know what they're on about.

The story is good, the title gives a clue as to what it's about; I won't add any spoilers.

Total Waste of time

This is the most incredibly badly acted, slow moving, poorly scripted, abysmally directed drive I have ever had the misfortune to watch.It would not even be good enough to rate as a B movie it is that bad.

I find it hard to understand why anyone would rate this higher than 1 and this is happening more and more often that reviewers are giving completely false reviews.

I cannot find one redeeming quality in this film, there not even as much as 10 seconds of even mediocre acting in the whole film. The story line is fairly standard and may have been worth watching if the actors had any ability at all.

Please, I implore you, do not waste your life.

I enjoyed the movie and Jason Patric is awesome

I very much enjoyed this movie and think people need to give it a chance. It's about caring also not just terror. Jason Patric is great in his role and shows the length a person would go to save another. Yes some of the scenes are repetitive, but in that situation for real that's exactly what would happen even without someone walking you through it. I feel this movie is not a waste of time to watch and fact is home invasions do happen all the time. This film was realistic and not overdone and fake. Everyone has their own opinions,this just happens to be mine.Take 85 minutes and give this movie a try. It was entertaining and definitely worth the time. I am glad I stumbled upon it

Asinine plot with stupid characters

I am going to keep this quite short: avoid this movie if you can. There is no character development of any sort. The characters are stupid. For example, they apparently don't know that a car can drive through a closed garage door. Also, if you threaten someone loudly enough, they may figure out how to open a safe they don't know the combination to. You get the general idea, I am sure. And the action is even more stupid. Everybody seems to be walking around at random, seemingly explicitly to avoid running into each other. What a waste of one and a half hours. And at the end, we still don't know several things. What is the relationship between the home's owner and the home invaders? What was inside the safe that lead to this whole stupid movie?

An amazing thriller

Now I know the home invasion sub genre had been used a lot and this movie is no different.... But it does it right. This movie kept me engaged from beginning to end. It's one of the few of the genre that made me want to find out what happens next. The thieves were scary and the house was a great setting. It even had a pretty good shootout scene. The cast for the most part is pretty good except for the kid but then again he is probably a better actor than most Hollywood kids. But one performance in particular I wanted to point out is Natasha Hendstridge as the main protagonist. I really loved her character and she was by far the standout. I really wanted her to succeed and I was invested in her story and I thought she did a great job at having the viewer on her side. Overall I don't have any complaints of this movie. I'm glad I got to watch a good home invasion movie. Most movies try to be different and unique which isn't a bad thing but sometimes it's nice to enjoy a familiar premise done right!

A good watch and this Home Invasion is pretty good!

I was skeptical about this movie. I really didn't wanted to check this out but I did anyways and boyoboy how glad am I. This movie is about a mother and stepson duo who are in a remote mansion(of course! In every home invasion movie there's a remote mansion). But then a trio of murder arrive and the movie starts out. I love such movies. From The Strangers and recent Berkshire County, I loved all of these and this one is on that list too. The acting is great for all I know and the kid is not annoying (wow!). So if you want to watch something and pass time,then watch this. But it's my humble request that please don't be too critical while watching this. Overall, Story: 5/10, it has been done before. Cast: 6/10 Thrill factor: 6.5/10 so the movie gets 7/10.

TOTAL waste of time and money

The only "spoiler" here is when the movie ends and you realize you have wasted 85 minutes of your life. From beginning to end there is no plot and the lack of acting should leave Jason Patric red faced. Don't waste your time. Nothing connected.

There were many false starts and I hung in there because I thought there had to be a surprise ending that would redeem this film. Nope. I have no idea how this made it to a DVD. It should have been scrapped before it saw light of day.

It was never made clear why her husband was away and what was in the safe. The kicker? When it took her to the end of the movie to get the gun she had knowledge of the entire time!???

Mundane characters waddling slowly, probably not guests you'd want to visit your screen.

Right from the door bell, the movie bears an eerie resemblance to Panic Room, a mother and her children trapped in a stormy night with several intruders. This is not a good sign as audience would remember a much more superior title. Granted,"Home Invasion" has a decent choice for location, but nevertheless only used as bland routine of insipid cat-and-mouse game.

Chloe (Natasha Henstridge), the woman from Species, is home alone with her son when few burglars with sordid intention come and start blasting. This home invasion might go better if the hide-and-seek struggle was better crafted, but the mother and son duo are simply running about in least spectacular way, while any altercation looks unconvincing to say the least, the fast editing tries to mask it to less effective result.

The angle on home security operator, whose only interaction is with phone, is far from compelling. Audience would find it hard to relate to Chloe, let alone the operator who's having a bad day. One of the better parts comes from the setting, which the movie invests for quite a bit in the beginning. Its sense of isolation can be atmospheric, yet the prolonged heist overstays its welcome.

The team of invaders is honestly mismatched made for prison. For one, there's Scott Adkins, and he's not roundhouse kicking anyone, although he wears suits on the break in then starts yelling randomly. The others are some shady henchmen wearing full gears and shady woman wearing assassin sleeveless attire. They have carnival masks, which they eventually discarded. It's just too confusingly outlandish to be believable, not to mention they wander around the house for half the runtime.

Home Invasion delivers just as the title advertised, although in witless and uninspiring manner, making audience wishes it would leave already like an unwanted guest.

lackadaisical search

Chloe (Natasha Henstridge) and her stepson Jacob live on an island community. They are being targeted by a group of masked invaders. She calls home security and gets Mike (Jason Patric).

There are occurrences that don't pass the smell test. They don't seem right even if they are not impossible. It should be the easiest thing for these armed intruders to find Chloe and take her captive. One of their first objective should be getting the situation under control. They seem almost lackadaisical in their search. It should be more compelling action for them to escape into the rain. I know filming in the rain really sucks but as it stands, this movie doesn't work. On top of that, the home security stuff also seems unlikely. The only part I truly like is the bridge. The rest is less than thrilling.

I Would Have Given 8 If There Were Closure

Great actors, great story, very suspenseful and well done. Only thing is that they forgot to give it an ending. It's one of those good films where at the end you ask yourself, "I spent all that time and now this"? The movie is about crooks looking for something, but they never tell you what that something is.

Nifty little nail biter

Not a great film by any means. But it does what it does well. There are some holes in the plot. The plot itself is predictable and a little ridiculous. But if, like us, you were looking for some diversion on a nasty November night, it kept us entertained and awake. This is a Canadian film. It was shot in British Columbia. And although they don't specifically set it in Canada, they also do not Americanize and bastardize a Canadian city as so many of these films do. We have to sell our films but we should draw the line at selling our identity. Many Canadian filmmakers don't understand that The bad guys are really bad. The kid is a brat. And they never tell us the whos and whys behind the home invasion. The acting and the camera work are very good. Good stuff if you have have a rainy evening to kill.

Made for TV quality with no redeemable qualities.

I love home invasion movies. They are often brutal, violent, and show the ugly side of one of the worst crimes a family can experience. This movie, however, was so tame as to make the actual act as boring as having neighbors you dislike over for tea. The script with asinine, the acting was atrocious, and the lack of any violence, blood, or foul-language was bad enough, but this is supposed to instill horror and dread on the viewer, and I was simply BORED. Bored from beginning to end at this failure of a film, and it does not deserve to be seen by even the most prudish fan of cinema. It is a Home Invasion film for religious people, in that there is nothing to suggest that the movie is actually aiming to show the horror of home invasions. It is a really bad joke that fails from its inception to its punchline. And the ending? Sweet Mary, that ending! What a load of freaking hot garbage. All of it.

Pleasantly Surprised

Definitely worth a watch but it was hard to root for any of the main characters. My jaw dropped several times at the stupid decisions they made along with the criminals. The end very disappointing and anticlimactic. Pretty cliche premise but I think the execution was good enough to still be enjoyable.

Boring & uninspired

The setup and beginning are quite interesting as not much is being revealed. Although the 6 month flashback right after a decent opening is the first downer in a long series in this flick.

The characters are unbelievable naive or overly arrogant and stupid. The only believable guy is the bank robber Esther.

The home security system and company are a joke. A multi-million dollar home (more a castle) with probably a few dozen rooms and the most expensive smart home rigging installed and they can't do better than this? I expected some really good applications of what such a setting could offer to hide, set traps, escape, counter-attack or do anything to play mind tricks in the gangsters - but all they could do was hacking into the stereo system (well...don't bother) and make some noise for a moment. In the end the security company does very little to save the protagonists, everything that made a difference was done without the aid of the mike guy, who himself was pretty lost all the time.

The road block and the time it took the police to reach a crime scene are so constructed - no one would build such a villa in a remote backwater place. Someone who could buy such a house and stuff would also assign at least one security guard to the building - who would have died first, but OK.

All in all the story and characters are plain and lifeless, everything feels very constructed and there is never any real suspense building up.

Not even worth watching on a rainy Sunday evening with nothing to do.

Decent little cat and mouse thriller

Well-directed and acted. Pacing was good and the tension was maintained, except for a bit somewhere in the middle.

Only bugbear is that home security's role wasn't significant enough. I expected Mike to be the eyes and ears for Chloe, literally guiding her through the escape (this idea was done excellently in the film See For Me). However, it turns out that his involvement throughout was mostly patchy and lacked coherence. Nice idea at the end though.

Actually i have never seen a movie like this, worst EVER!. waste of time i think if i had a beer in graveyard it would be much useful, i mean how can his friend have an safe jacket and the boss doesn't? is it about home security commercial, i hope the actors and the director and the writer dies for wasting my time plus a lot of mistakes come on we are in 2016 and we still have common mistakes? if she rode the car out of the garage she could've break through! and that kid ran out for no reason without any warning how possibly a kid freaked out do this, maybe had some experiences before... what is it in that safe? who is that women who is that guy who stood for an army cause the boss said ï will make it worth your while? oh my god i feel the writer is mocking the audience ..or the watchers..

Watch Panic Room instead

HOME INVASION is a straight-to-video B-movie thriller that openly copies PANIC ROOM but comes across as far inferior to the David Fincher film. This one sees an ageing Natasha Henstridge playing a mother who is forced to take refuge her own home alongside her child when it is invaded by a bunch of criminals looking for loot. Her only ally is a security operator on the outside, played by a tired Jason Patric in one of those sitting-at-a-desk type roles. Truth be told, this is a typically cheap and overwrought production, with Henstridge failing to impress and the story piling on one cliche after another. I laughed out loud during some of the attempts at more serious moments. The one highlight is the presence of martial arts expert Scott Adkins in the cast, but sadly he's not enough to save the film - and he doesn't even get to fight.

Definitely one of the worst movies I've ever seen

I have a vast collection of B movies. And a vast collection of C movies. But this is a D movie. Seriously. It is if someone from 1950 discovered home security systems and wanted to make a movie about it. But then you have this typical upper class no-job-having alcoholic (yes drinking wine every night is alcoholism) bleach blonde bimbo with a bratty ass child that has nothing better to do with her life than create drama, with a subplot of a home security system company training procedures manual.... I mean, could this be anymore boring? Yes it can! The dialog is horrible and the script is poorly written. The cops are stupid and rain seems to cause a home security system to fail and the cops to fail and nobody heard that big ass explosion at the front door!?!? The company's name is "Home Security System". The wife can't access her bank account because her name was taken off? That is not even possible. And then someone gets murdered and the cops are nonchalant about it. What about the subplot of the new guy training at the home security system and the woman saying "if you need me to take over for you I can". Take a drink every time you hear wine glasses or find a reason that you want to slap the child. This movie has so many cliches, ugh. What is the point in this? Watch any other number of movies for a good time. Watch this movie if you want anxiety.
