Pedestrian Episode

There's little to recommend this episode. Penny asks Leonard to get an appointment with a psychiatrist so he can get her an interview for a pharmaceutical sales pitch. But when Leonard meets with her, he finds out some significant things about his relationship with his mother. Stuart moves out of the Wolowitz house. They miss him. And Raj and Sheldon find an asteroid and Sheldon bullies Raj. Doesn't this sound lame?

What part of this is sitcom?

Warning: Spoilers
After the apparently 'amazing' previous episode (see IMDb rating for confirmation), TBBT continues to stroll in utter mediocrity. As an episode, this is as uninteresting as it gets but not nearly as awful as it has gotten in the past.

Sheldon assists Raj with his work and they discover a medium sized asteroid. This leads to complications. This plot was terrible as far as the dialogue was concerned. The "banter" between the two as to what the asteroid will be named was garbage, to be completely honest. It is so clear watching Jim Parsons that he has lost all interest with the project, whether he will admit it or not. The once charismatic Sheldon Cooper is nothing more than an obsessive, shrill and infuriating character at this point. Raj continues to be oh so boring.

Stuart finally moves out....after like 2 years. And the funniest thing is, the character's screen time has been multiplied in recent seasons (8 and 9) compared to his earlier seasons, but the impact as a result has been lessened. Stuart was a funny character at the start of the show, and was good for a laugh or two from time to time. The fact that the writers chose to dramatize the character (losing the comic book store, losing Howard's mother) shows just how insane crew have become. After moving out, unsurprisingly enough, Howard and Bearneadette miss him.

The only part of the episode that maybe offered a laugh or two was Leonard's psychological counseling session, where he again whines about his mother. This part of the episode does reinforce the question as to why Penny and Leonard got married, and we sense an insecurity in Penny.

One slightly decent aspect aside, this continues in TBBT form of recent years: boring, unfunny and obvious. None of the story lines in the episode screams out "SITCOM!" like it should. When viewing something like "Seinfeld" (to compare is blasphemy, I know!), the story lines have a sitcom feel to them. This episode has nothing of a sitcom element to it, and the writing is especially to blame. There is almost not a single laugh in its 18 and a half minute runtime. Yes, TBBT is operating 18 minute episodes compared to the standard 22-23 mins of other sitcoms. And yet, the 18 minutes felt too long...
