Creative and funny

Mr. Madila, Spiritual Healer, is a man who was advertised to an animation student while he was trying to come up with a final year project. The result of an oddly phrased card was an interview, and this film. The result is funny, creative, and engaging but in a way that is not cruel or condescending (which it could easily have been). Mr. Madila speaks for himself and the animation drifts from the interview room, into the universe, and back. It allows the absurdity of the man to come through, but also the warmth and genuineness - you can see why people both hate and love people such as this.

The animation is deceptively simple at times, but is consistently beautiful in its construct and its movement across styles and places. The interview is well done and provides plenty of humor to the piece, but it doesn't mock Madila or the world of the spiritualist (well, even if it does have a bit of fun with it). A creative and funny short film which is well animated off an unusual inspiration.
