Brutal episode that lingers in the memory
snoozejonc24 February 2021
The Jennings wait out their isolation period, Stan investigates Martha and Oleg travels to Moscow.

This is a very strong but bleak episode with some memorable scenes.

The story follows a number of plot threads involving various characters in the USA and Soviet Union, however I am unable to go into detail without spoilers. It is safe to say that it is well written, full of dark irony and hits as hard as a sledge hammer.

Visually it is excellent, with a number of great examples of cinematography, particularly the final scene which is truly haunting.

All performances are excellent, especially Matthew Rhys, Keri Russell, Alison Wright and Annet Mahendru.

For me it's at 9.5/10 but I round upwards.

Death looms large . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . mostly over Philip and Elizabeth, cooped up in the safehouse, all hopes pinned on a hastily-concocted antibiotic to stave off the pathogen. It's largely what makes this such a stressful episode, they're sidelined while their futures - domestic and professional - hang in the balance.

But its biggest surprise arrives in the final moments with the death of a fairly important character. What makes it heartbreaking is that it happens right after he/she wakes up from dreams of a happy future. The gunshot is terse, hard-hitting and surprisingly sad.

great episode

This IS A VERY interesting show, this episode was really great and very sad and shocking also. Stan and his "spidy" senses are spot on. I love Oleg, he is a torn soul. interesting to find out what will become of Martha, she seems to have used up her use to the Russians.

Bureaucracy is so fascinating. This episode could not be both good and bad. Eventually I had to flip a coin.
