Beck- End of the Road
Tweekums1 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens a woman and her young son return home early not realising that somebody upstairs has a gun to her husband's head. He tries to grab the gun and warns then to flee but the gunman shoots him then his wife and child. It turns out that the dead man was a retired police officer and there is some talk that he may have been corrupt although his former colleagues put these rumours down to accusations from criminals who aren't happy that they were caught. During a search of the house the police discover a secure room which contains a variety of illegal weapons; some of which have fingerprints of a wanted man on them. It is believed that he committed a robbery then murdered his two accomplices before fleeing the country… he was also a police informant working for the dead man.

It won't be an easy case to solve; none of the criminal suspects or their families want to talk to the police and members of the police, including Beck's boss are keen to push the investigation in directions that avoid potentially embarrassing revelations. Away from the case new team member Steinar still hasn't passed the required firearms test and his wife is concerned that their daughter is involved in drugs. Oskar is also having relationship problems.

This was another enjoyable episode with an interesting central case. The final revelation of the killer's identity isn't much of a surprise but some of the details are less than obvious. There are also moments of tension. Kristofer Hivju continues to do a fine job as Steinar; his character takes such a prominent role that one could be forgiven for thinking that he was the protagonist… I assume that this was to help us to get to know more about this relatively new character. This doesn't mean that Peter Haber's Beck is underused; the scene between him and Jonas Karlsson, who plays his boss, at the end of the episode was great and we got the inevitable amusing scene where he chats to his neighbour on the balcony. Overall another solid episode.
