Okay Film is Just that
Christmas-Reviewer28 November 2017
I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 400 (C H R I S T M A S ) MOVIES AND SPECIALS.

BEWARE OF SOME REVIEWERS THAT ONLY HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW. WHEN ITS A POSITIVE THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE PRODUCTION. NOW I HAVE NO AGENDA! I AM HONEST! I REVIEW MOVIES & SPECIALS AS A WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT I HAVE SEEN! I HAVE DISCOVERED MANY GEMS IN MY QUEST TO SEE AS MANY Christmas MOVIES AS I CAN.

In this film "The Christmas Gift" The story is built around Megan, a beautiful 10-year old girl who is impressed by a gift that she received through Secret Santa. Not only is she impressed by the gift, she treasures it, since it came at a time in her life when she really needed it. As time passes, she never forgets the gift, and she never forgets the face of the little boy whose photo was attached to the Christmas gift. After almost 10 years, Megan, who is now a journalist, makes it her mission to find out the location of the little boy who touched her so many years ago. When she decides to approach the editor with an idea for the perfect story to find her Secret Santa, Megan's life changes in a way she never expects after finding him.

In general the story is not that well crafted. The emotion on the actors have for one another is just isn't there. What should be noted is that this film is so predictable that you can see the twist coming.

The actors are all fine and do great work here. The story could have used a little more work.

Flat

Warning: Spoilers
The story itself isn't bad, but like so many of these Christmas movies, it isn't great either. The angle of finding her secret Santa is a little different. Having to save something (the residence) by Christmas is overused. There was an element that might have been a little surprising, but no big surprises. The orphans and what they did were good for the story.

The acting was very flat. Michelle Trachtenberg has appeared in a lot of titles, but here she has no spark to her character at all. Chemistry between her and Sterling Sulieman is especially lacking. The editor and the guy playing Johnson senior both delivered their lines with little feeling.

***NOT-QUITE-SPOILER*** I was especially unhappy that a dirty trick was not taken seriously enough. ***

Nice story, but poorly acted.

The characters in this movie are fairly predictable and the movie would be much shorter if the actors picked up their queues. You could drive a truck through some of the pauses between the lines of dialogue.

Based on real-life events but boring
Moonicas28 November 2020
I don't expect much from holiday movies, yet this one disappointed me. It's a cute story based on real-life events, but unfortunately also dull. Not much is happening, the pace is very slow, and the chemistry between the leads wasn't there either. I can live with clichés in Christmas movies, but this one missed some spark that would make up for them.

Misleading synopsis
the_doofy28 December 2020
It's not a mystery.

its not an 'investigative' movie

Its pretty boring

No humor, no suspense, so strong antagonist, some of the actors were reading their lines off cue cards in front of them it seemed

It was clean, no drugs, no smoking, no cussing

Cheesy

So terribly written, then I realised it's a chick flick written by men. Women don't speak to each other like that - it's weird. The movie is weird.

The poor writing flows into unconvincing acting, and it's just so awkward to watch.

Seeing "Dawnee" all grown up was wonderful to see! Ok,so I'm a crazy fan of Buffy and, this is the first time I've see Miss Trachtenberg since loving her character in BTVS! Great movie and I will never ever understand the grumpy heartless comments left by some reviewers!! Are their lives THAT perfect that even the simplest of heartfelt messages are overlooked?

Heartwarming

Anyone who is negative about this movie clearly has no heart. Do yourself a favor & give it a try for yourself because everyone has an opinion. Remember if everyone liked the same type of movie we would not have the variety we have to choose from. Anyone who likes any Hallmark channel, UPTV, or Holiday movies will enjoy this movie.
