Disappointing season finale
jackblue-8974815 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This season finale episode was very bad and really disappointing.

Let's talk about Kara and Jimmy (or James as they prefer). I think it is awesome, cool, but kinda rushed into it. I felt like they were doing it quickly just to make them kiss and satisfy their teenage viewers. I mean I like Kara and Jimmy being together and got no problem with that, but the show's version of that making me dislike it because they make them look girly.

Then there is that speech Kara gave on-air that freed everyone from the mind control. With all do respect, I find that a total piece of crap! I mean it could've been done by other ways that could've been awesome but they chose a method that was really boring and stupid.

Now let's talk about Superman's position in the show. First I understand that this show called Supergirl and that is about only her saving the world. But treating Superman like that, (weaker and faceless); was really dumb and idiotic.

Finally, I am just glad that Supergirl is moving to CW and leaving CBS. I hope they fix the entire series there. Lol Beacon of Hope? Hope of making the show better.

Disappointment!

Warning: Spoilers
Awful season finale. Everything is bad.

Romance between Kara and James is so far-fetched. Standoff threat is ridiculously. Final battle is not interesting. And it is so boring.

Amazing kryptonian mind control technology with the help of which villains want to take over the universe is useless, because you can talk the speech on TV. So funny like people, who walk the street and don't hear it, also "wakes up".

But worst of all is Kara's sister. To the end of the season I began to hate that character. "No, Kara! Don't risk yourself, let all planet to die, don't fly into space, it's too dangerous!"

Final battle is not very bad, it is the same we watch every episode. And Supergirl is sacrifices herself to save humans, which is interesting until her sister saves her in the most ridiculous way.

4 of 10 is the maximum to the episode. Worst in the season. Sad.

Season One

As a huge fan of "Smallville" and everything Superman, I was obviously intrigued by this show. However, I was worried that it was going to be little more than a "girl power" show and be rather vapid. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happen. It only took me two episodes to determine this will not continue to be on my DVR schedule each week.

For a basic plot summary, "Supergirl" tells the story of Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), a Kryptonian sent to Earth just after her super-powered cousin. Kara ends up in National City, where she doesn't choose to cultivate her super-abilities and instead works as basically a gopher for media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). Finally fed up with being pushed-around, Kara decides to don the infamous read and blue skirt/cape and begin her superhero existence. She is helped in this task by James (not Jimmy) Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and sister Alex (Chyler Leigh).

There are three specific reasons why "Supergirl" is doomed to fail:

1. The "girl power" theme will get CBS a lot of nice press, but it can't carry a show. Developed characters and interesting plots carry shows, and "Supergirl" has neither. Through two episodes, there seems to be no compelling core to the show, and the acting (besides Benoist) is terrible Flockhart and David Harewood (who had a great turn on Homeland a few years ago) must be embarrassed to be put into their strange roles.

2. Every celluloid iteration of Supergirl has failed because she is a "second fiddle" character to Superman. There is very little original about her story. She has the same character arc and powers as her super-cousin, and he is always first, so to speak. The Supergirl movie failed after the Christopher Reeve Superman films, and this show will fail because "Smallville" was just so much better. This has nothing new or interesting to offer.

3. Finally, CBS is a procedural machine right now (besides "Person of Interest", and even that show had to "trick" the network into believing in it). The "eye" network could care less about taking chances on long-term or interesting-concept shows. Instead, everything must fit into their slick, technology-heavily, flashy-looking formula. That's exactly what "Supergirl" is too: shallow plot, hollow characters, all with a veneer of slickness that will quickly wear off.

Simply put, I'm disappointed that CBS is taking such a generic, short-sighted approach to this property, but I wonder if this was doomed to failure from the beginning. There just isn't enough "oomph" in the Supergirl storyline to sustain any sort of storytelling convention...serialized, procedural, or what have you. This will be one of those shows that gets a lot of buzz...and then is quietly cancelled after its initial 13 episode order.
