A Beautiful and Important Show
ProSci30 December 2015
I don't usually rate shows/movies a 10/10 unless they are both (nearly) flawless and socially important. I saw commercials for "Born This Way" on A&E before watching it and was very fearful that it would be exploitative but it is not. This show is incredibly educational, thoughtful, and well-made. There are scenes and topics that may not be for the faint of the heart but that is what makes this show, and it's cast, so special and unique. It is very real. In one episode, a viewer can almost assuredly feel an entire spectrum of feelings and emotions for the characters. The cast and their families have an unfiltered charm that is often lacking in 'reality' TV. I found myself laughing hysterically with the cast during one segment before almost being in tears during the next segment. The show is a perfect balance of genuine, heartfelt, and funny moments mixed with incredibly difficult (and sometimes sad) topics that most viewers may never think about if it weren't for this show.

"Born This Way" is an incredibly thoughtful and socially important show with a cast that is impossible not to love.

Finally...quality reality T.V.
gretchen-4593616 January 2016
I have never before felt motivated to write a review for a television show. Well, this show inspired me! The cast is so authentic with their feelings and emotions. These people are putting themselves out there in an emotionally captivating way. They are sending the world strong and powerful messages about life, that we should all embrace. This show is about anything BUT disability and has brought "reality T.V." to a level of quality unseen in the past!In a world that places value on unimportant things, the cast in "Born this Way" brings the audience back to life's most beautiful treasures. This show has appeal for a wide range of ages. There are lessons to be learned by all!

Wow!

I came across this show in an "let's see what the Kardashian trash is up to" moment. Reality shows are not what they used to be. One episode in, and this show had me hooked. THIS is what reality TV should be. It's an insight into people who aren't famous or popular. It's an educational experience in regards to people that aren't exactly like me in everyday life. In the U.S. we have an issue with ignorance and bias. I don't know anyone with DS, and it's so refreshing to learn about people that were born just a little different, but still amazing. There is such an amazing display of strength, fortitude, and "we're people too!" on this show.

Thank you to all of the participants. You're changing the world.

Not your average reality drama!

This reality series features six young adults with Down syndrome and their families. If this series helps show their dreams and realities. They don't let Down syndrome define their lives. If you know somebody having a Down syndrome child and are considering terminating the pregnancy, please watch this show. This program shows that having a Down syndrome child isn't the end of the world. This series shows they can have normal lives including going to college, having jobs, getting married and more. Congratulations on a well deserved Emmy. The six adults meet at a center in Los Angeles, California. If this series can be educate others about Down syndrome then maybe there wouldn't be a termination rate of about 75%.

I have an 11yo son with down syndrome and I'm so inspired by the young adults on this show!! Watching this group of wonderful and determined individuals makes me smile and brings me joy!! I think Elena and John both have such a great sense of humor, I so enjoy their positive energy and laughter!! I've enjoyed watching Christina and Angel's beautiful love story blossom. I love how Sean wears his heart on his sleeve and has no fear expressing himself!! Steven seems like such a sweetheart, Megan and Rachel have a strong sense of who they are and what they want to be!! Rocco reminds me of my son when he was little, just melts my heart!! All of the individual parents on the show are remarkable warriors and inspire me so much!!!!

Perfect

My son has Down syndrome and is 6 months old. This show helps me so much. Seeing the parents talk about their experiences, seeing their children be successful- this show is so important and special to me, and a lot of other parents in the Down syndrome community that I know. Society views DS as an "illness" and quite literally treats people with DS like they're not human. It's awful and unacceptable. This show gives an insight on DS that is really important. I really hope they come out with another season!

I love this show. It has taught me a lot about the every day issues that people with disabilities must face. .And how strong each actor is because of it.

This show truly inspired me. The adversity they endure but push through. I am so glad they found each other to relate, become friends like family and to share their life with us. This show has taught me so much about individuals with Down Syndrome and how their disability does not define them but instead made them stronger in so many ways.

This show was AWESOME! I was completely captivated and moved by this show!
contactus-8275830 December 2016
I was all raw emotions watching this show. I was all smiles, and grins, and tears. I was all pride.

I was so proud of these wonderful young men and women for pursuing their dreams and making their voice heard despite all social expectations.

I was mostly in awe of how these supposedly "disable" people were lacking most of the flaws and the baggage that many of us, the people labeled as "normal", have.

I couldn't help but ask myself…

What does "intellectual and developmental" disabilities really mean? What gives whom the right to define it?

The same way misery and violence make me question God existence, these wonderful people made me think there is God and he created down syndrome to teach the rest of us what wholeness really is.

It's like God said… "I'll put all this big obstacles around one single being to show you what doesn't matter and what does. How to have a clear speech, or a good muscular toned, or a good handle of math doesn't matter. What matters is HOW you live your life. What kind of person you are. How you overcome the obstacles in your way to purse happiness. HOW and WHO you are is what matters."

One of the moms in the show said "they are the closest thing to God" and me, the skeptical agnostic that often rolls her eyes at any mention to God… I just nodded in utter agreement. YES THEY ARE.

I cannot recommend this show enough.

I watched it with my kids and we talked about how we ALL are all wonderful beings with the right to pursue happiness. We also talked about how life can make this pursue of happiness difficult and therefore, why it is important that we support our fellow human beings instead of setting more obstacles each other.

Cute Show
christinafisher-186692 September 2020
I really enjoy watching it and seeing the family dynamics, I didn't score it higher though because I would have liked to see some families who don't have as much money and how they navigate life. I think out of the 7 families they follow only one of them makes the average income or less. The rest have huge houses in L.A. so they definitely have money to get help and assistance that most middle class to lower middle class families wouldn't have access to and I wonder how much that changes their children's development.
