According to the BBC, the series isn't based on (or inspired by) the book The Coroner by M.R.Hall. Now that we've got that out of the way...I grew to like the Coroner as it progressed to series 2, and then the rug got pulled out by someone in TV authority so adios to series 3:( Not happy at all.
Anyway, the Selkie legend arises with the re-appearance of a teenager, Leah (who has academic parents) who went missing overboard. Jane can see through the mythology and gets to the truth of the matter which involves Leah and her lecherous godfather Tim and the underage beast with two backs. Quite chilling.
Clint (Oliver Gomm) has an amazing resemblance to David Spade, and with The Coroner unjustly axed, a TV spin-off with Clint should be developed, where he has secretly attended night law school to become a barrister.
I loved the classical rendition of Sailing at Leah's welcome home party. Also Jane and Davey reminisce about their time in Lighthaven 20 years ago.
