The PlayStation and Xbox rivalry has been going on for decades now. Nintendo does pop up with a console of its own once in a while, but it is more focused on the handheld side of gaming. As far as the console wars go, while the fervor is not as intense as it used to be, the subtle undercurrents are still flowing.
Both companies have their competing franchises, and while these games don’t always overlap in genre, there is one level playing field for the gaming giants: racing. Both of the companies are ready to put the pedal to the metal, but one of them has been steadily smoking the other through repeated entries, and one wonders if Gran Turismo will ever overtake Forza.

Director Marek Partyš’ music video for Island Mint’s Burnout is a zippy, playful and incredibly creative scrapbook-style look at a couple on the run at the end of the world. What’s interesting is how Partyš uses the doomsday device as fuel for the couple’s romance, a method for their passion to enflame rather than quell. Also, the contrast of burgeoning love with apocalyptic doom brings with it a great opportunity for Partyš to generate a whole assortment of images filled with quirky exuberance, an ideal match for Island Mint’s song which melds the psychedelia of Tame Impala and The Flaming Lips with bouncy pop rhythms. Dn caught up with Partyš to learn more about his creative process, the extensive planning that went into creating the scrappy, collage-like look of the music video, and the solitary experience he had in post-production animating the project himself.

The games industry is on the precipice; so much is currently at stake, and the big corporations seem intent on barreling towards the edge without a thought about the potential fallout.
With so much news of studio closures and big buyouts that result in more studio closures, it feels like unique games are not being given the chance they deserve anymore, in favor of the big proven IPs getting the spotlight.
The Games Industry Feels Like It’s In Dire Straits
Hi-Fi Rush was a critical success and even came to PS5, yet Tango Gameworks was closed
The past year has been a difficult one for our beloved games industry. Many studios have been forced to close after lower-than-expected sales. Most recently up to the chopping block was Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive, which was closed by Embracer Group.

If you’re a Haikyu!! fan then you definitely know who Burnout Syndromes is. The band, consisting of guitarist/vocalist Kazuumi Kumagai, bassist Taiyu Ishikawa and drummer Takuya Hirose, is behind some of the anime’s most iconic openings. It's okay if you have “Fly High!!” from Haikyu!! 2nd Season in your head when thinking about Burnout Syndromes. While Burnout Syndromes would go on to do more Haikyu!! hits like "Hikari Are" (the Haikyu!! 3rd Season Op) and the first opening to Haikyu!! Top The Top! , “Phoenix,” the band has also done music for Dr. Stone ("Good Morning World!") and Gintama ("Hanaichimonme"), just to name a few more anime series as they continue to make a name for themselves across the global music scene. The group recently took the time to talk about their music, how they came together back in middle school, what it’s been like to have...

When the very first Mad Max movie was released in 1979, no one could have predicted the heights to which the franchise would climb. Since then, there have been six feature-length films, and the franchise has also branched out into other forms of media, such as comics and video games.
With the release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, George Miller has been asked a lot about the movie and the future of the franchise. One question asked was whether he ever envisioned another video game for the franchise, and Miller said it could only be done by a very specific person.
Mad Max Director George Miller Trusts Hideo Kojima Implicitly Mad Max 2015 did not sit well with Miller.
The release of Mad Max: Fury Road led to the launch of the Mad Max game. You would not have been faulted for dismissing the title as just another movie spin-off, as those games are rarely good.

With its upcoming narrative racing game Heading Out, developer Serious Sim seems to be putting its own fresh spin on the vehicular genre. When one usually thinks of racing titles, iconic franchises such as Need for Speed instantly come to mind, but there’s not much else to do other than drive the car around and win races in those games.
Fortunately, developers like Serious Sim and Ironwood, the latter being the development team behind Pacific Drive, a survival title released last month, are making sure that they try something new with the genre and possibly end up creating sub-branches of it to keep them interesting in today’s landscape.

One-upmanship is the name of the game in the Fast & Furious franchise, from its humble carjacking beginnings to its globe-trotting (now globe-circling) feats of saving the world from the MacGuffin du jour. While its plotting implausibilities and character invincibility have always been part of the joke—never more so with its latest entry—each iteration has methodically upped the ante to some ridiculous next stage. Franchise veteran Justin Lin’s F9 follows suit, yet the prior film’s creakiness becomes expounded here. This is an adventure grasping at straws at every turn—stuck between fulfilling its grounded ideas and striving for franchise-topping action, everything feels like it’s running on fumes.

The sequel to Dangerous Driving will speed onto PC and consoles this year.
Three Fields Entertainment has announced that Dangerous Driving 2 is in the works. This, of course, is the sequel to Dangerous Driving, the high-octane racing game that was developed by a lot of people that previously worked on the Burnout franchise.
The crashing-heavy Dangerous Driving launched in April 2019 and is widely considered to be a spiritual successor to Burnout. This means that Dangerous Driving 2 is the official sequel to that spiritual successor. Does that make sense?
On the company's official website, as well as sharing the funky artwork that we've plonked atop this page, Three Fields Entertainment confirmed a few key features for Dangerous Driving 2. According to the blog post that broke the news of the game's existence, Dangerous Driving 2 will have split-screen multiplayer, online components from day one, and an open-world for players to explore.

Moroccan director Nour-Eddine Lakhmari – whose trilogy of films, “Casanegra,” “Zero” and “Burnout,” were major local hits – is completing a documentary for the Marrakech Film Festival Foundation, entitled “Turn the Light On,” about the Foundation’s medical-social campaign, that provides free cataract surgery treatment.
The campaign is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Hassan II Foundation of Ophthalmology and has been in existence since 2009. Lakhmari filmed 310 operations in one week.
A 6-minute teaser from the documentary will be screened in the closing ceremony of the Marrakech Film Festival on Saturday. The final 45-minute version will be released in early 2020.
Lakhmari is also preparing a new feature film about a young woman who runs away from home and moves to a remote village in Morocco. This marks a significant break from the style and themes of his previous films, which revolved around strong male protagonists, street violence and were all lensed in Casablanca.

This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Apple Arcade is now available in countries around the world. The tech giant's new subscription service allows owners of Apple devices to download games from an impressive library of titles, which features new output from loveable indie studios and familiar big-name franchises.
But when you're looking at the full list of available games on Apple Arcade, it can be hard to know which titles are worth jumping into straight away. Having had a peruse of the selection ourselves, and having had an early look at some of these titles at Gamescom 2019, we decided to put together a little list of recommendations.
So, if you've just logged into Apple Arcade for the first time, you might want to check these games out first.

It's better to burn out
Than to fade away
– My My Hey Hey (Out of the Blue), By Neil Young and Jeff Blackburn
Neil lied. His 1977 song was written after the drug-fueled deaths of bandmate Danny Whitten and rock's founding superstar, Elvis Presley. But Young himself never burned out. At 73, he's still making movies and music and noise. Not everyone burns out, though these days, it sometimes seems that way.
Burnout Is Now A Thing
His song came to mind this week, in part because the World Health Organization officially declared that job-related burnout is A Thing, a substantial work-related medical condition that merits serious attention. The Who declared it to be "a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.” With all due respect to the Who, no duh.

Hey, remember Minx?
DC Comics launched that imprint in 2007 to great fanfare, with a raft of interesting creators (many from outside the comic-shop) world and a focus on fiction for teen girls that was unusual for comics of the modern era. It flopped in barely a year, though: that’s why you might not remember it.
Other companies, before and since, have published plenty of very successful books for this audience — I need only mention the name Raina Telgemeier. But DC didn’t manage to do it: maybe because they were too locked into their usual distribution channels, maybe because “DC Comics” turned off those girls, maybe because the stars just weren’t right. But it did flop.
I’ve covered most of the Minx books randomly here — Re-Gifters and Clubbing, The Plain Janes and Good as Lily, Janes sequel Janes in Love , Kimmie66 , Water Baby , Confessions of a Blabbermouth...

A whopping 87 countries submitted entries in the Foreign-Language Film race at the 2019 Oscars. That is down by five from last year’s record 92 submissions but up by two from 2017, which had broken the benchmark of 83 set in 2015. The nations represented ranged from A (Afghanistan) to Y (Yemen). Among the contenders is the Mexican entry “Roma” by Oscar winner Alfonso Cuaron (“Gravity”). This Venice Film Festival winner is a strong contender in both this and the Best Picture race at the Oscars.
Predicting the eventual five Oscar nominees for Best Foreign-Language Film is made difficult by the two-step process.
First, the several hundred academy members of the Foreign-Language Film screening committee are required to watch a number of the submissions (upwards of a dozen) over a two-month period that ends in mid December. They will rate them from 6 to 10 and their top six vote-getters make it to the next round, as...

Racing games have come a long way over the years; they’re outrageously beautiful, full of life and allow near endless customization. Few of them, however, are fun for those who aren’t super into cars. If you’re expecting some longwinded meta-analysis of the ins and outs of Forza Horizon 4‘s tuning, customization, brands, or other things gearheads care about, prepare to be disappointed. I like cars in the sense that they get me from point A to point B, but as far as racing games go, I prefer the more arcadey offerings of something like the Burnout series. I like my video game cars fun to drive, simulation be damned. It’s good, then, that Forza Horizon 4 offers plenty of opportunities to create the most absurd or straight-laced vehicles possible.

Argentina has selected Luis Ortega’s well-received Cannes Film Festival crime drama The Angel (El Angel) as its contender for the Foreign Language Oscar. The film, produced by Pedro Almodóvar, broke box office records in its home country; The Orchard acquired U.S. rights after its Un Certain Regard bow and has set a November 9 theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles for the film before rolling it out nationally.
The pic from Ortega, who directed and co-wrote with Sergio Olguin and Rodolfo Palacios, is a portrait based on Argentina’s real-life serial killer dubbed “The Angel of Death.” The pic picks up the story when Carlitos (Lorenzo Ferro), a 17-year-old with movie star swagger, blond curls and a baby face in 1970s Buenos Aires, meets Ramon (Chino Darín) who embark on a journey of discovery, love and murder. When he is finally caught, the press dubs Carlitos “The...

In an effort to reaffirm his dignity, Marcello must submit to an unexpected act of vengeance. Fonte won the Best Actor prize at Cannes.
Garrone’s Archimede produced alongside Rai Cinema’s Paolo Del Brocco, Le Pacte’s Jean Labadie, and Recorded Picture Company’s Jeremy Thomas. Magnolia has U.S. rights. Garrone’s previous credits include Gomorrah, Reality and Tale Of Tales, all of which played at Cannes.

Three Fields Entertainment, an independent British studio led by ex-Criterion Games founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, announced on Thursday it’s working on two new racing titles.
The first game is called “Danger Zone 2” and it’s coming to Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in July for $20. It involves driving vehicles at high speeds into traffic to cause as many crashes as possible. But, unlike the first “Danger Zone,” the sequel takes place on real public roads instead of test zones. It also features realistic physics and 26 single-player levels set across 17 unique locations. Both games are apparently inspired by the Crash mode found in Criterion Games’ “Burnout” franchise.
“Each game we make builds from the previous one and is a stepping stone to the next. We are really excited about the next two games we have coming up,” said Sperry in a press release. “‘Danger Zone 2’ is a...

Burnout Paradise is getting a HD remaster in Japan this March - which surely means the rest of us will see it soon...
The mere mention of Burnout's title is enough to get us all misty-eyed with nostalgia. Criterion's arcade racing series offered a pure shot of adrenaline - its sense of speed and movement was pretty much unparalleled, and its increasingly elaborate damage physics meant that, when you inevitably crashed, the resulting spectacle almost made the calamity worthwhile.
