The fifth season has started quite well with "The Complex Murder", but because the third and fourth did that too and then went on average, I was thinking the fifth was going to be just like the previous seasons. Must say I was pleasantly surprised. "One for the Road" was very enjoyable and "Posing in Murder" continues the line of decent, though not great episodes. It's not one of the series best, but is light years away from being the worst.
Let's start with good, shall we?
. The production values are great as usual. The episode's mostly well directed and the music fits the scenery. The acting's good as well. Tobi Bakare's JP is becoming a more interesting character as the episodes go along.
. "Posing in Murder" is super fun to watch! The humor is quirky with many laugh-out moments. Also liked we see less stupidity on Goodman's behalf.
But...
. The murder mystery is a mess. The model characters are so similar to each other, it took me half of the story to figure out who was who.
. Even though the identity of the killer( the photographer) was passable, the motive for the murder did not match up to the information given from a character earlier in the story. At the end of the day the killing was committed with too much chance taken from the killer, which made the solution an unlikely scenario.
. Also, parts of the direction are just as messy as the script. Sometimes the episode does not flow as fluently as it should.
Overall, decent, but a flawed watch.
6/10 HK
