Ho Mann Jahaan: Refreshing, Beautiful yet Entertaining.
zaid-ahmed-abro3 January 2016
Refreshing Start, immersive throughout, excellent execution and beautiful music.

Ho Mann Jahaan had everything that a modern day movie should have. It was relatable, it was not far fetched and it all seemed honest. This was a movie based on the life of three friends from College, how their lives were interconnected and how events unfolded as time progressed. I know it all sounds like an over used and cliché idea. But the way it was executed, connecting with how the different facets of society and family structures in Pakistan operate did not allow the viewer to think 'cliché' even once. And the way it was panned out, it all linked back together like a well direction-ed, well steered boat. In the end Converging together with the initial message of the film, 'dosti'(Friendship).

Ignoring the occasional flaw when the musician's fingers or hands were not moving on the guitar yet the tune was altering. The direction, the location and they way the film was paced was impeccable. It may have seemed a bit stretched a little before and after the intermission, but that effect was unnoticeable when fused with beautiful yet refreshing music.

None of the characters seemed unnecessary, everyone on-screen had some part to play. And everyone played their part near perfect. Be it the evergreen Bushra Ansari, the beautiful Mahira Khan, Adeel Hussain or Sheheryar Munawar. Each actor had a distinctive character, no one seemed to be put on the sideline and none of the characters seemed fake. Which is extremely important because the actors need to believe in characters as a start to even have a chance of making the audience believe.

The music was the undisputed star of this movie. Considering that the plot was largely based on music, the art itself. The film shined in the music that it brought forward. Be it the beautiful Balochi tunes, Atif aslam's Dil Kare, the pure entertainer Shakar Wanda or most importantly the classical Revitalized Zoheb Hassan and Nazia Hassan's 'Dosti'. This particular song may I add fit perfectly with the story line of the movie.

Besides all the technical aspects of the movie. In the end what does it or breaks it for the viewer is whether he/she is able to 'feel' with the movie. Does the viewer walk out of the theater with a smile on his/her face? This movie was able to create that feel and that is why I loved this movie.

This is indeed a wonderful start to the New Year and a wonderful first step of the year in the revival of the Pakistani Film Industry.

Great Attempt by Pakistani Cinema
hotangel-953248 January 2016
All in all, Ho Mann Jahan was an enjoyable watch. Although the movie seemed relatively flat at the beginning, as the story develops, so does the audience's interest. The direction and story line were decent. Unlike Bin Roye, the movie had great flow between scenes and looked appropriately edited. The songs were unique and the theme well played out. The three main actors, Adeel Hussain, Mahira Khan, and Shehreyar Munawwar acted extremely well, so much that some scenes became real tear-jerkers, however some of the older and more mature actors did not act with such finesse.

Ho Mann Jahan was a great attempt by Pakistani cinema and is definitely a must-watch. Although some aspects of movie-making are still lacking and there is always room for improvement, Pakistani cinema has definitely taken a huge step forward with this movie.

A Dragging Family Entertainer
shafiq-siddiqui8131 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Asim Raza's Ho Mann Jahaan is the most anticipated movie of 2016. The New Year will bring "massive-TV-audience" to cinema halls in Pakistan. Ho Mann Jahaan features the gorgeous Mahira Khan, talented Sheheryar Munawar and Adeel Hussain. The movie Ho Mann Jahaan was heavily promoted on social media and a huge series of multiple promotional events were also witnessed in different cities of Pakistan. Let's see what Ho Mann Jahaan has to offer to its viewers. Ho Mann Jahaan is a tale of 3 friends Mahira Khan, Adeel Hussain and Sheheryar Munawar. Their love and passion for music is intensified but they are always suppressed by the society and family from which they belong. What happens in the pursuit of finding their dreams is what Ho Mann Jahaan is all about. Performance wise, Ho Mann Jahaan, unfortunately does not belong to any actor. The performances are nothing like over the top or worth remembering. Sheheryar Munawar is a good talent to be utilized but in this very movie he is not in his finest form. He needs to work on himself. A few of post-interval scene from Shehryar are nice; and that is it. Adeel Hussain carries the character well but lacks the conviction in many parts. Mahira Khan is simply gorgeous. This could have been her most promising role, but she somewhere got carried away and did not look the character she performed. Music of Ho Mann Jahaan has received a mix reaction, some songs are melodious, some are promoted excessively to be heard and some are just average. The highlight of Ho Mann Jahaan is its "Cameo-Gang". Asim Raza has interestingly and smartly utilized multiple actors (read: stars) as cameo in the script and that's refreshing. The biggest let down of this movie is that it's editing is very lousy. It could have been a lot better and shorter with smart editing. Asim Raza as the director of the movie is dependable. It's a nice effort from Raza but the movie is sure to receive both applaud and criticism i.e. a mixed response. Ho Mann Jahaan is a family watch.

A Film That Succeeds On So Many Levels.
hamdoonibrahim4 January 2016
I truly believe that there is nothing better to alleviate stress of any and all kinds then watching a good movie, for some time now Pakistani cinema has seen some sort of a resurgence, not only in terms of the market share and the bragging rights but also in terms of the quality of the films. The trend was started by Khuda Kay Liye, then came Bol and the trickle down effect has seen the local talent from directors, producers to the many up and coming actors both male and female come to the fore and churn out unexpected hits that not only resonate with our culture but are appreciated abroad as well. I was cautiously optimistic going in for Ho Mann Jahan, the film had everything going for it from tremendous marketing with a tie in with the marketing juggernaut that is the brand Coca Cola, to a very talented though somewhat underrated cast. The many vignettes on TV commercials seemed very promising, little did i know that the film will completely blow my expectations out of the water.

It won't be an understatement to say that this is a modern classic by all accounts and i am not saying this because i am a Pakistani, you have to see the film to understand how beautifully its crafted. First and foremost, the three main actors: Mahira Khan, Adeel Hussain and Sheheryar Munawar deserve huge props for their performances, each embodied their character and were pulling out all the stops and seemed to be living their roles. The ever present Bushra Ansari was great as usual and even the cameos by Hamza Ali Abbasi, Zoheb Hassan and Fawad Khan were very welcome and never seemed to be just filler with no substance. The film being a musical had to have good music and although i didn't like every song in the movie, its safe to say that it caters to a variety of tastes in music and does have something for everyone, although Atif Aslam's solo number 'Dil Kare' seemed to stand out amongst others.

The cinematography was superb, there were scenes where the relative newcomers were outclassing the veterans and were pushing all the right buttons to generate a reaction from the audience. The narrative of the film revolves around friendship and so it has its fair share of variety when it comes to plot twists and memorable moments. I was especially impressed by Sheheryar Munawar's performance, he seemed such a natural in his role and it seems that sky is really the limit for his future. Mahira was looking ravishing but that doesn't mean that she was all eye candy, this was probably her most complete performance yet. Adeel Hussain did a very commendable job as well. To conclude, this is a film that simply can't be missed by a Pakistani cinema goer, as for the audiences abroad, if u want to see a film that is representative of Pakistan through and through; packs a punch and is thoroughly entertaining from start to finish without relying on silly item numbers, you can't do much better than this.

An average coming of age emotionally drama.Targeted at youth, has great music, and good acting.
jmoneyjohal8 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
With the start of 2016 I have officially watched my first Pakistani film in theaters titled Ho Mann Jahaan, I had seen 2 other Urdu films before online, and I had noticed that Pakistan is not that behind India in filmmaking. Just an explanation for the people that don't know that Urdu and Hindi is almost 99% the same there is just a dialect difference, like how Punjabi and Hindi are almost the same. But back to Ho Mann Jahaan I had read the film was breaking Box office records in Pakistan,so I wasn't surprised that finally a Pakistani film was being released in British Columbia(only the third film to release here) so I was highly intrigued. The films story is one I have seen in Bollywood, and Hollywood etc many times, of how parents don't understand there kids ambitions and force them to crush there dreams. Its a coming of the age emotionally drama. But each film has its own different theme, and with this film music was at the theme. Moreover for the most part Ho Mann Jahaan was enjoyable, but what bogs down the film is a ever slow sluggish pace, and a overload of clichés/predictability.But some good music, and acting does ably support the film but more on that later.

Story wise The film's central characters Arhaan, Nadir and Manizeh are done with college and try to make a career in music and not the fields their parents want them to.What happens when they slowly get torn apart makes up the rest of the plot.

Acting wise Mahira Khan is the best of the lot, and she excels in the emotional scenes, she is a talent to look out for. I now know why Shahrukh Khan casted her for Raees ,its because she is extremely beautiful and talented.Shaharyar Munawar matches up with Mahira in the acting and also shows a lot of unique spunk on screen. His acting was very refreshing and funny. However Adeel Hussain was extremely wooden and needs to polish up his skills, he seemed amateurish in front of the former two.

Ho Mann Jahaan is honestly a film I enjoyed for the most part, it had its light moments, the coming of age drama was nice for the most part, and even the film clichés played out realistically for awhile. But slowly the film became very tedious and slow and at 2hrs 50 I started to get a bit bored. Film needs to be edited to be made more crisp.Furthermore after a point the clichés went overboard especially in the scene when Arhaan says I love you too Manzieh, like come on a love triangle now out of nowhere. But what my biggest problem with the film was that I had seen too many films like Ho Mann Jahaan in the recent past so the film lost its freshness and novelty for me.But the film boasted of some great music, some commendable acting, and the urban theme was done well, the costumes, locations, and the production values were top notch. However for a film with music at its base we never really see the films leads struggle to make it big in the music game, or trying to promote there band by doing gigs, they just practice at home. The films story and screenplay needed a little more work. The film is more of an emotional journey of the three main leads rather than a musical(thats what I excepted).

Overall even though the film was far from perfect I chuckled and enjoyed myself throughout most of the film so I cant really complain. Its a film which will connect with the youth and they will relate too. Even the though film is quite average I recommend Indians to go watch Ho Mann Jahaan, because one will be able to tell there is almost no difference between an Hindi and Urdu film.

Throughly enjoyable
basirkhan3325 January 2016
Finally a movie released in these two three that is decent, well choreographed and well written. The characters are all easy to relate to on so many different levels. Oh and the wardrobe was amazing. The dresses from start to finish are beautiful. Also note that Coke Studio is sponsoring it so red is used in EVERY SINGLE SCENE (just saying in case, like me, you like red). This movie also has no item songs(thank God for that) and is not vulgar at all. The film has specifically been made for people who find it difficult to tell parents what they really want to do in life, and for the parents who fail to understand the interests of their child i.e they want their children to fulfill their dreams.

You want it, Go get it !!!
aurangzab200522 March 2019
I liked Ho Mann Jahaan on average, but indeed it was entertaining. I think theme of the movie is to "you want it, go get it". It was to pursue your dreams, be tolerant of other's view and don't control your children lives too much. Music is just used as an objective. It might be difficult for some people to digest, MUSIC AS A PROFESSION but i guess it was basically an elite youth oriented movie, where such scenario is a possibility.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by Sheheryaar's acting. Different expressions of Arhaan's personality were played well and his character was quite interesting. I really liked his acting in some of the intense scenes esp climax.

Adeel Hussain was also great as Nadir. Although he was able to show Nadir's emotions effectively. An elite with familial issues and unable to coupe with drastic decisions, Adeel portrayed it perfectly.

Mahira Khan looked stunning. She played the role brilliantly.

Sonya Jahan looked graceful and glamorous. Her acting was great and in the short span that her character was given, she was able to shine in her role.

Music, i must say could have been better, mean if you are taking the cast to Coke Studio, the music atleast touch the levels of Yaar Daadhi, Lamha or Tajdaar e haram.

Direction and cinematography was astonishing. All the shots of Karachi, boats, northern areas, crop fields, and seaside will provide you a glimpse of true pakistan. Each and every frame was exquisite and colorfull.

All the characters were relatable with our surroundings and the way they had their conflicts arise because of the different way of thinking of different people. I also liked the small comedy punches in the film and the funniest thing is that this is usually what happens in real life. The other thing that movie made an impact for me ehile entertaining as well. Story showed that people can have different opinions yet they could live peacefully. We should be tolerant and this is what we lack.

Ho Mann Jahaan is highly recommended. As our industry rose from the ashes, please watch and support.

Mediocre Narrative, Good Cinematography and Music
farnazk954 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the film, and found the cinematography and narrative to be its' best assets. Wide shots of the Karachi skyline and close shots of details such as family photographs reflected the high quality of filmmaking.

The songs, while unique in terms of lyrics, were more generic in terms of choreography; more unique backdrops and choreography would've been suitable - Shakar Wadaan being a good example of this.

The best dialogue delivery came from Bushra Ansari, Mahira Khan and Jamal Shah. Dismal performances from Shehryar Munawar and Adeel Hussain, and minimal input from the remaining characters. Sonya Jehan's character could've been more developed, but wasn't given as much attention.

The narrative is ultimately the biggest drawback; while entertaining, it doesn't do enough in terms of sub-plot development; instead choosing to loop in sub-plots through speedy scenes which end up being hurried rather than emotional. Be it the reconciliation between Manizeh and Maqsood after over a decade done in one conversation, or the conflict between Nadir and his parents, turned around with just one fall on a table.

Ultimately, I found it to be a cut above the majority of movies in today's era, despite being a debut for Asim Raza. Recommended for young people!

an average movie extending more than time needed
usman_sd5459 January 2016
well its an average movie with few good songs , with new casts with strong skills of acting and mesmerizing Mahira khan. the story is good but it has a flaw of extending story for no reasons very bored scenes. people do get bored even after the first half cause its take you know where because you already know the end, the only reason i have given it 5 stars is because of the new cast who acted nicely and Mahira is grooming as an actress. my suggestion is if u really interested in watching the movie find a cinema with low price so u can come out anytime u wanted to, but one must appreciate the choreography of the songs dance and the blend of songs in different languages, and choosing the cast wisely.

Best film, highly recommended for every good person of world...
usama-someone7 February 2016
With 7.8 ratings out of 10 from 489 registered and educated users as films viewers around the world at http://www.IMDb.com/title/tt5200814/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 (Biggest films comments sites on Internet with 65 million registered users from all countries) is among best films of 2015 in all world and in any language having Islamic values included in it as all Pakistani Muslims in the film only. I saw it in best cinema of Pakistan, many Pakistani cinemas are even far better than many American cinemas and vice versa as latest technology wise and their huge size.

Saw Nikah (Islamic way of wedding) 1st time in Cinema after I had seen Titanic as 1st film of my life in cinema in Ho Mann Jahaan Pakistani film since 1997. So felt very pleasing. While Islamic values are displayed in every Pakistani film due to about 99% Muslim population in the country.

Since 2013 or some earlier by introducing latest technologies in film industry competing International standards with highly educated new Pakistani film makers like Bilal Lashari (Film making graduate from America)of great Warr Pakistani film (at http://www.IMDb.com/title/tt1821700/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_3 with 8.5 ratings with 27,235 users ) of 2013 almost all Pakistani films have proved highly successful if compared with IMDb.com ratings for these films even with extremely low budget films if these are compared with Indian or Hollywood films. So Pakistani films are going to rock the world due to great beautiful Islamic peaceful values in them.

Currently about 70% population of Pakistan is illiterate & poor so they don't afford to see films in cinema and they have also not a amazing vision to perceive great films having best possible visions of a nation or particular circumstances or scenarios etc. But any good great ruler in Pakistan can change destinies of Pakistani nation forever as a highly educated nation with great positive Islamic values as extremely important country strategically if seen on map of world. International experts are making too much expectations from Pakistan as a stunning Islamic nuclear country for whole Islamic world and rest of the world with China as its best friend as military, trade wise and in every way since 1948.

Extremely rich with natural resources & about 90% highly educated citizens 6 central Asian Muslim landlocked countries are very much dependent to use Pakistan's deep sea port (3rd deepest sea port in world with biggest hot sea of world in front of it) as only best option for them for importing & exporting for trade with world. Bordering China, India, Iran (having world 2nd largest natural gas and 4th largest oil reserves ) and Afghanistan increases importance of Pakistan too much more on map of world.

As being 4th time maximum world champion of Men's field hockey (3rd most seen sports in world), have most Champions awards in Squash sports and 1992 Cricket (2nd most seen sports in world) world champion & having extremely beautiful natural places to visit with too many mountains' beautiful sites at thousands of feet's heights, having a big desert, 700 kilometers untouched hot sea beaches, having all 4 weathers summer, winter, spring , having 2nd largest salt ranges mountain in world and having much more Pakistan is among top most countries for tourists attractions. Currently by military war against terrorists since 2013 in Pakistan about at least 98% terrorism in Pakistan is ended so country has become extremely peaceful for everyone.

A slow dull affair
absahmed2 January 2016
This movie is the first major Pakistani release of the year, and quite honestly fell a bit flat.

The concept on which this movie is based upon is outdated and contradictory to the kind of movies that Pakistan has been releasing thus far. The script was basic, acting mediocre at times and general execution and direction dull.

I didn't see any diverse acting skills, instead some of the scenes came off as forced, stilted and overacted. The editing was choppy and the promise of a musical extravaganza failed to meet any expectation whatsoever.

After watching some recent release's that the Pakistan film industry has to offer this effort fell far below to what else is out there. It seems that there is a danger for future releases to fall in to this tired concept and just because it has a couple of big name stars attached to the project that it is automatically acceptable for an international release.

A poor effort overall. Leaves a lot to be desired.

Refreshingly Beautiful.. Asim Raza; A Debutante Director Full Of Talent
m-8296229 July 2019
Ho Mann Jahaan is coming of age film which tackles youth problems; their emotions, their relationships and does it quite well... Starting from acting department everyone did great. The main cast stands out and everyone does exceptionally well. Sheryar Munawar becomes the star of the show and plays his character very well. Mahira Khan gives another beautiful performance and Adeel Hussain played this character extremely well . I was amazed to see Sonya Jehan play her character with certain kind of subtlety . Well I have already praised Asim but if have a problem with Asim its his writing which left alot of things a bit confused. One thing which film tackles is society's continuous reference of religion in pursuing certain professions like music in the film but if your religion does not stop you from pursuing certain professions then where the hell were references in the film so the makers could satisfy their audiences which was supposedly the main theme which this film tried to tackle and the film could have been a little shorter. This is a testament to the fact that our films lack smooth editing.. The music is like a breath of fresh air which makes the film's long runtime bearable and enjoyable for you.. For all its flaws, Ho Mann Jahaan feels like a film (finally) and I am very happy that Asim gave this beautiful film to the industry...

Watch This Film
Geeta35230 September 2017
What a beautiful film about what it means to be a real friend, a loving family member and how to live and let live through forgiveness. I laughed and I cried as I watched this thoroughly enjoyable movie. There are no words...I was moved by the whole thing. Excellent screenplay, convincing portrayals, wonderful music and dancing. The word beautiful is so inadequate. Please watch this film!

An utter waste of time and money
bkureishi11 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Horrible acting, mediocre script and predictable plot is what makes Ho Maan Jahan not worth watching. The opening musical score by Mira Khan is an amateurish effort at best, but that's only followed by a three other similarly amateurish scores that highlight the corners that were cut in the film.

The script comes across as a mishmash of similarly horrible Bollywood movies such as Rockstar but without the musical muscle. Every dialog is predictable, right down to the costumes which have nothing cultural or Pakistani about them.

The acting can best be summed up as horrible. Mira Khan is an industry veteran but seems to have lost her on screen charm. The male leads are even worse which makes her probably come across as the best.

Conclusion

All in All I'd say this is a bad movie. Its been hyped up and that's probably what the financiers of the movie saved up for i.e. to create hype. Fake social media accounts are used to create buzz and negative comments are deleted across various social media sites.

Love the friends concept. Jiggars through thick and thin and then the classic love triangle. Powerhouse performances by Sheryar Munawar, Mahira Khan and Adeel. Loved the songs too.

Very Average movie.
bestdesigns29 April 2017
i believe the movie is quite average. doesn't make any sense. moreover the acting of all actors except mahira is very immature. Wrong emotions , even dances on songs doesn't make any sense. so movie is saying that you can be rude to parents and do not listen to them which i believe should not have been promoted.

Disappointed
krithikababu7 December 2018
I am a big fan of Mahira Khan, and saw this movie only for her. Narration, screenplay, acting is sub standard. Even the dialogue and their deliveries. The two men are only there to look good, acting is so bad. Same goes for character artists. Story is as such is good. BUT everything else disappointing. Immature movie.
