sheborg meh-ssacre
Krhhmg19 October 2018
It's been a while that i've been this hyped for a movie to be released, even pre-ordered the dvd - a folly i usually stay away from. all starts promising, with a psyched-out scene in a spaceship. there are whacky humanoid aliens with a captured hot cyborg (the sheborg from the title) who is about to get executed. well if she would have, the film had ended pretty quickly. she somehow gets to earth, and then there are an annoying heroine, some puppies and mediocre - and way too little! - gore and blood scenes.

it surely is better than the rollerderby flick, also made by armstrong, but it lacks in the aspects you came for: brutality, nudity and a spacy score. the soundtrack is 100% punkrock stuff and if you don't like or even tolerate this, you will have a hard time.

fun flick with some beer and friends, but i recommend a rental before a purchase.

Amusing but stupid

I laughed out loud when I saw the title Sheborg, but then I remembered that one of my favorite movies is about a female cyborg. So, I thought I would try this out for the sake of comparison. Unlike Alita: Battle Angel, which portrays a female cyborg with depth and humanity, this movie portrays a female cyborg as an alien monster who must be defeated. This character is more like Godzilla than Alita. To underscore what kind of movie this is, some scenes show characters watching what appears to be a very low budget Japanese monster movie with fake-looking monsters rampaging among model buildings. The sheborg even has less depth and humanity than Daleks and Cybermen sometimes have on Doctor Who.

The special effects are virtually non-existent. The sheborg has robot parts on one side that give her a lop-sided gait. In the scene in which she moves the most, she crawls out of a car window like Samara from the Ring crawling out of a TV screen. Most of the actual action scenes do not involve her.

This movie rips off Bill & Ted and Scooby Doo. The two main characters, two girls named Dylan and Eddie, repeatedly copy a gesture made famous by Bill & Ted, in which they bump fists, wiggle their fingers, and make weird woo-woo noises. They are joined by a third character who looks like Velma from Scooby Doo, and in fact, she is named Velma. Being taller and having red hair, Dylan looks something like Daphne in comparison. There is also a male character who is something like Shaggy and cares about dogs.

I enjoyed it

It's noticeably "low-budget", however the movie knows this and runs with it. The fight scenes and blood that seem to go on for minutes at a time reminds me of the grindhouse style, but parodied. The movie doesn't take itself seriously and is a full on comedy, so it's best if you don't take it seriously either.

It also takes the style of Lloyd Kaufman's indie freedom, in taking a ridiculous idea and making it real.

There are blemishes though, in the fact the gore looks like..spaghetti noodles? The writing has jokes that sometimes go on too long, the puppies look like bloody stuffed animals..but it's a fun movie all around and is best enjoyed stoned.

How could I not NOT watch a movie called "Sheborg"? If you like crazy alien invasion B-movies with ass-kicking Aussie ladies, then this one's for you. They get plenty of bang for their buck (budget: $20,000), with sheer creativity and fun writing. The action/violence sequences in this are highly stylized, through clever use of editing and some CG enhancement.

I have never seen a car drive up a tree (and done practically). Some major continuity errors, all is forgiven, this movie's a great deal of fun. Did I mention ass-kicking chicks? Lots of low budget charm.

I went so far as to upgrade my Dollar Tree DVD to a Blu-ray of this flick.

Fun low-budget flick with a lot of heart

I felt like I had to drop a review here just to counter the review that described this movie as "misandrist." I guess some fragile male got his fee fees hurt watching this fun low-budget comic book of a film. Clearly the people making it had a lot of fun. It's crazy enough to where you will overlook the production's budgetary shortcomings. At first I had the impression that the filmmakers had never met a real punk or a real nerd in their lives and tried to approximate them onscreen, but then I convinced myself that this was intentional and part of the charm and maybe some kind of Aussie humor that I don't quite get. Reminded me a bit of the hilarious Lieutenant Jangles. Anyway, fun movie. Worth a rent.

most excellent and fun movie

** no spoilers **

OK, I love this movie - gutsy heroines, hysterical baddies, more puppies than you can shake a stick at, lots of nerdy in jokes, as well as heaps of local colour (most of it red). Bucketloads of blood, gore and guts and an actual storyline that makes sense :)

I am waiting somewhat patiently for this to come out on DVD so I can see it for a 3rd time, and then get all my friends to watch it with me as well :)

Fun!

Never boring, that's for sure. Engaging characters and lots of laughs. Actually quite well made for the low budget level. Actors do a great job. If you like a gory horror sci fi comedy and appreciate skill at a low budget, you'll enjoy Sheborg. Good music too.

Chaos Provides
nogodnomasters9 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Not since "Yoga Hosers" have I enjoyed two girls saving the world so much. Dylan (Whitney Duff) and Eddie (Daisy Masterman) are two anarchists who are always getting into trouble over graffiti. While out attempting to free puppies, they run into a real alien anarchist intent on taking over the world. They team up with the geeky Velma (Louise Monnington) and a cop to try to save the world.

The acting is bad. Likewise on the fight choreography. The subtitles were off too, a few seconds ahead of what was being said. Not for everyone, but I was entertained.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
