Familiar elements in a winning episode
denmat5028 May 2016
Episode 6 STC is out today and boy is it a doozie! Pulling threads from classic TOS episodes like Amok Time, Charlie X, and Devil In The Dark, this is fan familiar territory that really gives the cast a chance to shine. I loved it start to finish. Peppered with moments of genuine comedy that rivaled the best laughs of the original series lies a drama that succeeds in tugging at your heart. Not going unnoticed, by the way, were some unique perspectives of the Enterprise - I found them marvelous. "Beauty shots" are a bit hard to create in Star Trek's fiftieth year, but the tech nerd in each of us will find a few here. If you like your Trek old-school, right down to seeking new life forms in a big Roddenberry pie... well here it sits. In an episode that doles out snark in ever increasing amounts, Kipleigh Brown's Yeoman Smith delivers in her every scene. This is season 4 TOS for the connoisseur. Get the kids and raise a glass for "Come Not Between The Dragons"

Brilliant!
DoctorThotcer27 October 2019
I really like this episode, it has everything I used to love about Star Trek TOS as a child, an alien 'monster', a mysterious ray, lots of exciting action and effects, and some great use of future tech to resolve ship-threatening issues.

The alien works very well, there's a good emotional core, a clever twist, tons of sci-fi space action and a good pace, and everyone does a really good job of carrying it all along, in short it's a rollicking good episode.

On a side note, if anyone else has been a little distracted by Grant Imahara's tendency to deliver Sulu's lines in a loud unnatural baritone that has no connection to the feel of the moment, he's pretty good in this one.

Starting To Really Like This Show (No Spoilers)
marcusanton955 June 2016
When I discovered this series I was sure I'd dislike it. It took less time to start to really like it then I'd of thought. Vic Mignogna is not William Shatner but his performance show's he doesn't need to be. Vic has taken the character and made it his own.The actor playing Spock (Todd Haberkorn) does a descent job. I think he shows emotion in ways the original Spock wouldn't have. Christopher Doohan is the easy to see as Scotty. He even looks like the original character. I admit to having a serious attraction to the counselor, Michele Specht. I'm a sucker for a redhead. Seriously she is great actor/actress, delivers her lines convincingly. I find myself regularly looking to see if a new episode has been made. Give the show a chance, I think you'll like it as well.

Starts a bit shaky, ends being the best

What seems to be an annoyingly emotional guest star turns out to be the perfect vehicle for the story. Lighting, angles and music all work together for a potent combination. It's real Trek the way real Trek used to be -- where production shortcomings were wiped away by high-quality writing and acting, rather than so-so writing compensated by excellent production.

Gigi Edgely is profoundly affecting, and thoroughly deserves the final shot (a la Angelique Pettyjohn at the end of Gamesters of Triskelion). Simply one of the best episodes of any Trek, and certainly my choice for the best episode of STC.

Bones got socked in the jaw, Scotty got stunned as the crew brawled over a Pokémon!

The Episode over must be credited for its overall better visuals and set design. Although it does not match the superior plot theme of Divided We Stand or the high drama of Fairest of Them All; The two strongest episodes of the series in my opinion. Come not Between the Dragons reminds me of TNG episode Galaxy's Child as with the space organism and eminent threat on the ship, but it's also different in many ways. The Enterprise acting like child protective services was a bit corny but from TOS standards it seemed to fit in the franchise. It could be still better if STC breaks the mold a bit and builds story arcs rather than standalone episodes like TOS. Since the premise of this show is set after the events of TOS third season, there could be two major arcs involving the Klingons and the Romulans. An ongoing conflict with Tholians is also a possibility. This is after all just a fan suggestion and up-to the cast and crew of STC which is not loosing me anytime soon.

I Don't Like It But Others Will Probably Be Fine With It
StuOz15 April 2021
A creature is lurking about on the Enterprise.

I am a fan of Star Trek Continues and am a little surprised when some reviewers don't pick up on things I see? Basically, I am fine with the show, but only when it totally attempts to be a 1960s show made in 2013 to 2017. When the show now and again gets sidetracked into being a modern series , this is when I am taken out of my comfort zone. It happens here.

The photography in the early sections of the hour is way too modern. When the women start punching people in the jaw it reminds me that we are not in the 1960s.

I don't wish to sound like some sexist old man but rather I want to sound like someone who wants this show to stay in the 1960s zone - which I think is the goal here?

Whatever the case, younger viewers will probably have no concerns about the issues I bring up and will probably have a ball with Come Not Between the Dragons.

Very nice, but Kirk is a bit out of character
susancomics27 June 2016
I am a big fan of Star Trek Continues, and truly thrilled with the work that Vic Mignogna and the rest of the team has done and continues to do. The sets are amazing, and the sound effects, costumes, story lines... everything... are on target with the original series. We are very lucky that these fans have pulled together to create STC. I do have to say though, that I was a bit disappointed in the character portrayal of Captain Kirk in this last episode. In the original series, Captain Kirk has a persona of being bigger and better than the average Star Trek human. This "super human" nature is what makes him such a wonderful leader and captain. You can count on him to put up a bigger fight and hold on longer than any other captain in the fleet! In the original series, Captain Kirk would put up a heroic fight before succumbing to any alien force. He would exhibit emotional and physical struggles to retain control of himself before being consumed. I did not see that struggle in "Come Not Between the Dragons." Captain Kirk seemed to just give right in to the anger that was consuming the crew. No big deal. Go with the flow... oh what a disappointment! To remain true to his character, Vic needed to exhibit a super-human struggle before falling into the anger. I really missed that in this episode. Vic is a good actor, and he could have pull this off with no problem. It just did not happen.

An amazing fan-made series....just not one of the more amazing episodes.
planktonrules11 November 2019
I recently began watching "Star Trek Continues"...which is odd, as I should have started watching it much sooner considering I am a Trekkie. Yes, I dress up in costumes and attend conventions and Trek cruises! So, it's not surprising that I've enjoyed the shows. However, I did not love "Come Not Between the Dragons"--mostly because it felt too familiar and it was a bit too 'touchy-feely' for my tastes.

A strange creature (somewhat like the Horta) has come crashing through the hull of the Enterprise. Despite causing some damage, the creature seems friendly enough. Oddly, however, soon weird space waves hit the ship--and each time they occur, folks on the Enterprise get really angry and attack the creature. Only once they are equipped with neutralizers can the humans stand to be near the creature. What's causing this weird response....and what should they do with the creature?

If you combined "Free Willy" and "Star Trek"...well, this is much like this episode. It's not one of the more enjoyable episodes....I would have preferred more action and, perhaps, an alien enemy like the Klingons. A bit too 'nice' for my tastes.

A Senior Trekker writes......................
celineduchain9 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Come Not Between the Dragons is an episode that should not work at all. A rock monster penetrates the hull of the Enterprise and causes havoc below decks while a larger version (the parent) gives chase while emitting some kind of anger rays which cause the crew to break into spontaneous fisticuffs. The creature appears to comprise a human inside three meter mound of articulated black polystyrene, complete with four illuminated eyes and a glowing orange lampshade on its back.

However, I've seen worse. Surely some of the joy of the Original Trek was that it could tell meaningful stories even with sets made out of bits of cardboard and Dragons certainly has a very serious tale to tell. Australian guest actress, Gigi Edgley, gives a wholly sincere performance as the junior creature's advocate, although Eliza herself is struggling to come to terms with an abusive childhood.

My thanks to whoever decided to champion such a difficult subject in the Star trek medium.

Following a legal case by the studio, effectively shutting down all fan-made productions, these full-length episodes were hastily concluded in 2017. The creator, Vic Mignogna, subsequently became embroiled in a series of personal law-suits concerning his behaviour towards female cast-mates. Claims and counter claims abounded and, as of 2022, no effective conclusion has yet been reached.

WHATEVER THE REAL NARRATIVE BEHIND THEIR FALL FROM GRACE, THIS PARTICULAR GROUP OF STORIES REPRESENTS SOME OF THE BEST STAR TREK FICTION EVER BROUGHT TO LIFE. So many people, including Marina Sirtis and John de Lance, stars of the Next Generation, gave their time and enthusiasm, and some very dedicated people behind the scenes captured both the look and the feel of the original.

In true Roddenberry fashion, the "message" episodes covered such subjects as: inter-cultural marriage, child abuse, human (or alien) trafficking and the promotion of women to positions of high office. Actually Senior Trekker thinks that last one was a dud but does this really seem like the oeuvre of a man who disrespects women?

Best watch for yourself.
