What on Earth was The Mayor up to?
Sleepin_Dragon6 January 2023
Russell and Hugh go in search of The Mayor's chains, and a horrified by the scene of the loss, Andy and Becky go out for dinner, where she once again asks him to consider a move abroad.

Loved it once again, this second series is equally as good as the first, it seems to be pretty much centred around Peter's story, and his hunt for the missing plane, but there are all of these marvellous little strands.

It's an interesting one for a mid series point, as it feels more like an episode that would conclude a series, the possibility of Andy and Lance both quitting their beloved hobby.

It was good to see Russell and Hugh out on the field, the scene of the discovery was absolutely hilarious, so funny, the look on their naive, innocent faces was priceless. It was also nice to finally learn who Kate was, that was an unexpected moment.

I suppose the main question now, aside from the discovery of the plane, is whether or not Andy and Becky will stay together.

8/10.

Dogging the Mayor and Lance's Footsteps
ygwerin17 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Russell and Hugh are searching for the Mayor's lost chain of office, as part of the DMDC Jewellery Recovery Service.

Unfortunately they decide to pick the wrong time of day to do it, especially given the site involved. And the nature of what the Mayor was possibly doing, that caused him to lose it. Poor Hugh sees sights, that could easily scar him for life.

Lance goes to the supermarket and is in the midst of buying flowers, chocolates and after shave. When he is spotted by Sophie and Peter, Lance feels impelled to lie through his teeth about his purchases claiming they are for him.

Andy is at home changing young Stans nappy, when Sophie phoned to tell him about Lance. Andy is too busy and Becky has to take the call, but when Andy hears the message he has to take the phone. "Keep the suspect under surveillance and report back," says Andy to Sophie.

Lance has to shift on his Park bench to avoid the wasp, and he appears to be rather nervous in his demeanour. Sophie and Peter are scrutinising him from a discreet distance, and can't help smiling at his discomforture.

Lance unbelievably stupidly decides to jettison, the flowers and chocolates into a rubbish bin.

At that point Lance's daughter Kate walks up behind Sophie and Peter, they're embarrassed and are forced to make stupid excuses for being there. Lance sees Kate and walks awkwardly towards her, he hasn't seen Sophie or Peter. But Kate tells him that there were people spying on him, who had just left.

Sophie passed on the info on Lance to Andy at the next DMDC meeting, telling him that "the smell of aftershave was very much in the air".

Peter has the material about his relatives War time plane crash, and the members are discussing the progress.

But Lance spotted that the old photo that they were using, of the original crash was wrong. And that they had been searching in the wrong spot, they realised that they didn't have permission to search the right area.

Which Terry said was owned by the Mayor, he suggested that Russell and Hugh find his chain. And instead of the Mayor's reward for finding it, they should ask him for permission to search on the land.

Becky dropped a few bombshells on Andy such that she had to tell him over lunch, it's all about the notion of moving to Africa. That she has been trying to get him motivated into for ages, but Andy has gone out of his way to ignore.

It involves an archeology project in Botswana, with an adjacent town for the workers and a school. Staff are being recruited for the school, and graduate applicants are being sought for the site.

Becky has jacked in her job, applying for a position as teacher at the school. And put Andys name forward to work on an archeology project, with an interview arranged.

Lance finally opens up to Andy about his daughter Kate, and the relationship that lead to it. Lance suggested that Andy should, jump at the chance of a new challenge in his life, and go to Africa with Becky and Stan.

For me it was great to see other members of the DMDC get more of their own storyline, with Russell and Hugh searching for the Mayor's lost chain.

There are many excellent characters in the show, who are all well realised by their respective actors. But I can't help feeling that, they aren't given their chances to shine on their own often enough.
