A joy from start to finish.

Andy is keen for Lance to join an online saying site, and has to deal with his mother in law's disapproval of him in remaining unemployed whilst Backy works.

If this first episode of series two is anything to go by, it's going to be an absolute joy fest, this first episode was absolutely terrific. They really went for it, those opening sequences were beautifully produced.

I can't wait to see what effect little Stanley will have on everyone, seeing Toby Jones holding and feeding him, I'm not broody, but wow was was so sweet.

How marvellous to see Diana Rigg playing Veronica, not the first time that she played the part of her actual daughter's mum, and as always she was terrific, so cutting.

Gay Martin, no words.

9/10.

Warning: Spoilers
Just rewatching this for the umpteenth time, and I don't know why I didn't pick up on this before, it just shows what a prize wally I am. Becky and Andy have been almost unnaturally coy over her pregnancy in the previous episodes, and now its all change in this 1st Episode of Series 2. Theres is a huge jump in the plot line here with Andy now, taking his baby with him while out detecting with Lance. And a real bouncing bundle he really is, rejoicing under the moniker of Stanley of all names to give a nipper.

We finally get to see the mother in law, Veronica when she gets involved in Stan's baby sitting. Veronica is wonderfully portrayed by the simply wondrous and sadly missed actress Diana Rigg.

Andy tries talking to Lance about him trying online dating, but according to him he's actually "going through a period of voluntary chastity".

At a DMDC Meeting Club President Terry says that, his wife Sheila has a fund raising idea that he said she could raise. The notion is of the DMDC making a naked calendar, despite Terry and Sheila's best efforts its turned down flat. So much so that Russell puts the motion to the vote that Club, "Members pledge not to remove their clothes in front of each other". Motion that gets universal support and is, passed unanimously by an overall majority of DMDC members.

Russell and Hugh are running a lost jewelry recovery service, and they proudly show off a great news spread of them in the local rag.

A stranger has been haunting Lance and Andy's detecting, and turns up at the DMDC Club Meeting asking for their support. The bloke Peter says that his father had been in the Luftwaffe during the last war, and his plane had gone down in the area locally. And he was keen to try and find as much details about it as possible, Sophie is keen to help him with his research..

Becky talks to Andy about meeting with Gay Martin to talk about voluntary working overseas, something they had both been keen on in the past.

Episode 1

The second series kicks off with a flashback scene with a valuable item left buried hundreds of years ago. A field that Andy and Lance are searching but soon give up detecting any further.

The new series has Andy with a infant son called Stanley. He sometimes takes his son out metal detecting with him. At other times he leaves him with Veronica, his mother in law who does not even hide her dislike for Andy.

Still out of a job, Becky plans to take on some opportunities to work in Africa.

Meanwhile Andy wants Lance to do some online dating. He thinks Lance needs to go out and about a bit.

Members of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club are horrified that Sheila Seymour has an idea for a racy calendar.

It feels like the return of some old friends. Everyone seems to gel nicely and there even seems to be a story arc.
