A Lovely Romantic Comedy
Alex_Hodgkinson22 May 2016
While following many romantic comedy clichés and having a rather predictable plot in terms of how it'll end up, this film offers a lovely romantic tale with some unique humour in the mix.

Despite knowing, for the most part, where the characters would end up, the journey to the conclusion is what mattered, as is the case with most romantic comedies. I found myself grinning throughout most of the film, which is rather rare for me, as Planeta Singli offered numerous laugh- inducing scenarios and lines, while being a sweet, romantic plot at its core. The characters, while not entirely unique, feel three dimensional and there are some nice interactions.

Nothing spectacular or truly unique, but definitely achieved what it was trying to achieve and has a lot of heart involved. The thing most worth noting for me is the humour, as hardly any of the jokes seemed recycled and the cinema broke into laughter a number of times.

Planeta Singli: A Nice Polish Comedy!
niutta-enrico26 December 2016
A very good 2 hours and 10 minutes of Polish romantic movie: well written (Credits list no less than eight different Authors, in strict alphabetical order…), well acted and very well filmed and produced.

The plot is nicely intertwined and lets you enjoy an updated version of Polish life, probably different from what most of us can commonly expect.

A display of beautiful and charming presences (I'm sure Weronika Ksiazkiewicz won't go unnoticed) helps to fill the screen and entertain.

And you might like to know that there are 4 (not particularly remarkable) final seconds after the titles

How often do you see a Polish romantic comedy?
Red-1259 November 2016
Planeta singli is a Polish film shown in U.S. with the translated title Planet Single (2016). It's was directed by Mitja Okorn. Agnieszka Wiedlocha plays Ania, a young music teacher who would love to find a thoughtful, loving person to date and possibly marry. She goes on line to find someone, but the men who show up are universally horrible.

Enter Tomek, (Maciej Stuhr) the host of a TV comedy/reality show. Tomek senses the possibility of using Ania's plight as fodder for his show, and they strike an unholy alliance. Ania will tell Tomek about her dating disasters, and he will use them on his show. In return, he will provide her with a Steinway piano for her classroom. This situation is the basis of the for the remainder of the movie.

Incidentally, for plot purposes, Ania is supposed to be fairly attractive in a girl-next-door way. If you check her pictures on Google Image, you'll see that she's strikingly beautiful. However, there's another actor who is the "beautiful woman" in the plot, so Agnieszka Wiedlocha is relegated to a different role.

This is a complicated comedy so there are other couples involved--all with romantic problems of their own. Even though nothing in the film is highly original, it still worked for me. (Actually, the use of puppets is interesting, but otherwise matters are pretty predictable, but still enjoyable.)

This movie is unusual in that the Polish films I've seen usually have serious--and often gloomy--plots. How often do you see a Polish romantic comedy in the U.S.?

We saw this film at Rochester's excellent Little Theatre, as part of the Polish Film Festival. It's very colorful, and I think it will work somewhat better on the large screen. However, it's worth seeing on the small screen if that's your only option. It carries a solid 7.2 IMDb rating, which is pretty good. I agreed with the other reviewers; I gave it an 8.

A very relaxing, funny and sweet movie.
IPP201711 April 2017
A very relaxing, funny and yes.... sweet movie about love, misunderstanding, intrigue with a little bit of sarcasm. It is well served: very good acting, plot is interesting and actually each of us could find some episodes familiar. It is just so real. I wish more Polish songs were used as a background, but the foreign ones match the story as well. Well done! And I want more!

Omg so much sugar
msedlar-0212324 April 2016
I am sorry but I think I got type 2 diabetes from this movie. Would not recommend. Save your money. It is probably the worst film I have seen this year. This review does not contain spoilers since there is nothing to spoil. If you can count to 20 you will figure out this movie in the first 40 minutes then grab your phone and start browsing the internet for the next 80 minutes. The characters are shallow and completely unconsistent in their actions and responses. And the plot holes, Jesus Christ so many plot holes. You will figure them out if you can operate a toothbrush. But alas if you read this comment and still decided to watch the movie you have been warned and enjoy.

Beautiful and Fun Polish Rom Com with beautiful scenery
pinkandhugs21 June 2020
I enjoyed every minute of this Polish Rom Com! I laughed at loud at times and the film shows you Polish culture and beautiful settings in Poland. I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys romantic comedies. The two leads were also fantastic and there is a story of family unity in this movie as well. IT also left me with a need to travel to Poland in the future! The cinematography was beautiful as well. SO go watch it now.

They tried to copycat English/American romantic comedies, but the awful acting ruined it all.

They tried to copycat English/American romantic comedies, but the awful acting ruined it all. The acting is so unnatural that Keanu Reeves could use it as a fire wood. This is because the director is a foreigner(not being a native Pole did not help), or they could not find any decent actors?

Common people! Get a Polish speaking director, to direct Polish spoken movies. Also the character development and plot, is rather dumb, even for a rom-com....

My advice: Go watch Bridget Jones or Cameron Diaz romantic comedy, not this amateurish copy...

A sweet romantic comedy with a central-European flavour
Gelaos21 September 2022
I don't watch romantic comedies all that much but I think that Planet Single is on point. The romance is nice, humour okay and sometimes quite goofy, some sad moments here and there and fairy tale-like ending is great. All characters are fine, seem natural and the main duo is very likeable. And all that is supported by good soundtrack and directing. This film is one of reasons to like Polish cinematography.

I like how this film balances humour, romance, goofiness and serious moments, without putting anything too much to the front. And allthough the film is pretty formulaic, I also like that it has more central-European feeling.
