Plays it most recklessly
bkoganbing1 December 2016
Louis Cancelmi as Thomas Wilder is back and taunting Donnie Wahlberg in this fine Blue Bloods story. He even rents an apartment using the name of Danny Reagan.

Commissioner's son or not Will Estes steps into it with a reckless sergeant played by A.J. Buckley. Buckley plays it most recklessly during a hostage situation and Will Estes questions his judgment most vigorously.

Sammi Gayle invites her grandfather to speak at her school and the usual protests threaten to make her most popular. Tom Selleck is wont to remark how different things have become when ten years earlier she had him speak at her grade school and just beamed with pride.

Best scene in show is taken right from Raymond Chandler's Farewell My Lovely. Remember in either of the versions with Dick Powell and Robert Mitchum how they got information out of Mrs. Florian? That's what Donnie Wahlberg does with Cancelmi's souse of a mother Candy Buckley. I don't doubt for a minute the writers knew they were lifting that from Raymond Chandler's famous detective novel.

Still works though.

Warning: Spoilers
This was a very good episode. I like how everyone stood up for what they believed in even if it meant they were not going to be popular or would get into trouble.

Danny and Linda have been having marital issues ever since Linda was injured. She has been going to a Dr. to talk out her problems. She had gotten to the point where the Dr. thought that it might be beneficial for her healing process if Danny came in. So, Danny goes to see the Dr. He isn't really thrilled with her methods and when he gets a call he leaves before the visit is finished. Later he is talking to Linda and tells her that he is really wanting the marriage to work. He apologizes for leaving before the session was done and promises to go again. The next time he goes he is with Linda. Danny is still not really liking the way the Dr. is handling everything, but he says that the marriage is really important to him and he will do whatever it takes to make it work out.

That was my favorite part of the whole episode. I get so tired of watching shows where the couple has problems and instead of trying to work it out they start having affairs or they just get divorced. I think that more shows should show couples going through difficulties and actually working on fixing the problems instead of just giving up.

Warning: Spoilers
This was an excellent episode as it was so true to life and all parts of the story did not exactly have a Cinderella like happy ending; rather, the endings were realistic.

Jamie criticized his sergeant for tactics that he felt were way out of line during a hostage situation. Frank going to his granddaughter's college to speak when he knew full well the anti-police sentiment on the campus and Linda and Danny showing strains of a 17 year marriage due to Linda's inability to emotionally bounce back after being shot.

When you hear why the sergeant had been acting erratically, or Frank's determination to speak despite being booed off the stage and Linda and Danny facing threats from a psychotic killer, all these situations were handled down to earth.
