Buddies forever

"Castle" becomes a "Boys" show as Beckett is out of the picture and in we have "old friend" Slaughter (Adam Baldwin, as cool as ever). Slaughter needs Castle's help to find the killer of one of his informants, of whose death Slaughter himself is a suspect.

This episode centers on the cool interplay Baldwin and Fillion have from their time together at "Firefly". There had already been another episode in season 4 with Slaughter, so the character doesn't need to be introduced (even if most of the viewers won't remember much of him). Both actors, and also Huertas's Esposito and Dever's Ryan, make for a fun team to be with, and the rhythm never decays throughout the episode. It's fun, it has action, some interesting moments... On the down side, as seems to be regular with this eight season of the show, the mystery is more or less interesting, but the resolution is quite lame. "Castle" was a show fond of last second's twists that would give some information we didn't know about and give us the killer for the episode. But in this season, the twists come, but many times they are about a character that has been on the fringes of the episode for its whole running time. If the viewer is not invested in the suspects, the episode loses quite of its thrill, even if not any of its charm.

Guys were Actually Cool, but I missed the 'gal'

If Kate showed up, I'd given this one full points. But it was really an awesome episode. I totally loved it. I've not seen any previous episodes with detective Slaughter in them, but I'm definitely looking forward to enjoying them now. Looks like, I've missed quite a lot. Castle is a series which I'm gonna gobble up in the first break I get.

Hey, I loved the genius dude Louis too.

Just got a bit imaginative here. How about getting Louis and Alexis together sometime. ;) They would look great together. I mean the whole Castle Investigations gets the premise nicely set up for a budding romance. I think we could still call the show Castle, as in, Alexis Castle.

I wish we could get Beckett and Castle together asap. Looking forward to some funky romantic moments like good old times.

Awesome Episode

This has to be the best Castle episode I have seen. I have watched Castle since it began. I have always been a fan of this series.

This episode was excellent! It had a great plot and the story played out well. However, what really made it so awesome was Detective Slaughter. The way that he and Castle interacted was terrific. There was a great deal of comedy in this episode and the comedy did not in any way take away from the actual story, but in my opinion, made it even better.

I am hoping that they keep this series going for a long time. Not every episode is great, but most of them are. I like that Castle's daughter is now working with him at the detective agency. I also like the addition of Toks Olagundoye as Hayley Vargas. I think that they both add a lot to this series.

Slaughter - Great Replacement for Beckett
PartialMovieViewer20 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was a no brainer that Beckett was going, going, gone. She was great early on but her multiple melodramas started dragging the show into the sewer. The 'poor me' - 'look at me' focus effectively turned the humorous investigative forays into dull Stana-dramas - BORING. Adam Baldwin's character (Slaughter) was very strong and funny as hell, and with Hayley Shipton's snarky sense of humor, the show easily would have had another ten years, at least. Just to add a tingle of mystery, toss in a couple of episodes with visits from super secret spy, Jackson Hunt (James Brolin), how could you go wrong? Keep the supporting cast, Harve, Ryan and bring back Gates would be such a super plan sine these guys - along with mom and daughter are like a finely tuned orchestra with Castle as the only conductor. Do I miss Beckett? Go back a few episodes, yes - but she should have gracefully bowed out years ago. Too bad too. I hope Nathan Fillion keeps the notion of a Castle (PI) spin-off in the oven. I'll watch.
