I enjoyed this movie - SPOILER ALERT!
dshryock-932784 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, this isn't the best movie I ever saw, and the cinematography was less than stellar at times, but all in all, it was a good watch.

Did any one else notice that the little brother just disappeared halfway through the movie? When the mom dies, suddenly dad is living with his son and son's wife and the younger brother is never seen or spoken about again.

Well written and scripted good story up until the political trash
RebelYell_65917 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It was an overall good movie. It is very true and the script is dead on until the bull crap spin at the end. Having been a war veteran I was looking forward to the movie. I have had so many people that never served behave in the way that the lead character behaved. Overall a good screenplay but the Veteran's anti war crap at the end almost ruined the entire film. Rent "Jacknife" it is a movie based on Pulitzer winning play that tells the Veteran story better. I am not sure if the screenwriter added the Left wing veteran comment at the end for political purposes or as an insult. Whatever the case it could have been very healing but turned out not to be as much. The borrowed part from the "Bridges at Toko Ri" about the people at home going about their business was a good touch. The Veteran serving however knows that those back in the states not serving could care less about them but the screenplay does not stay true to that concept. The last part of the script was lousy from the Veteran perspective in my opinion. There aren't only a bunch of IQ 90 soldiers who use the military as their only way out, as the movie implies, and the statistical average IQ of soldier versus the general population again debunks that generalization. So insulting. Overall a good story but the portrayal of the Veteran's political perspective is off from my experience with the vast majority of Combat Veterans that I know. I will agree most who never serve are truly thankless and give lip service which is fine with me.

Bad movie
nclarky2 February 2020
I am a mom of 4 military children , this movie is poorly written and bad acting. On top of the fact they swear way to much . No one wants war . But this movie ends up somewhat political in the end ! Long drawn out ,dumb movie.

Way too political
raulbastia8 September 2019
This movie attempts to make a political statement but ends up just leaving a sour taste in your mouth thinking about the complete disrespect of American soldiers. They are not stupid, they are brave and we should be grateful for what they did for our country.

A movie worth seeing
andy-1508819 January 2017
I enjoyed this movie. It is well written, well acted and touches on things that all Americans should be giving serious thought. It is an emotional and touching movie. I cried, and that was unexpected. While war plays a part, for me, it was about emotions, how people deal with emotions and how emotions drive us to do what we do. It is about manipulation by the invisible hand. It is about cynicism and hope. It is about commitment and betrayal and figuring out what those things mean. The characters in this movie felt genuine and real. I liked the distance this movie could cover without getting bogged down in the details; it left enough open to the viewer's imagination. This movie is worth seeing and it likely will stick with you for a while.

Well worth a watch!
jld-2176916 October 2016
Anyone who witnessed the events that took place on 9/11 will be moved by this piece! If you were too young to experience this event, it is still worth a watch considering those same reactions and emotions have led to the current state of the world. Great acting and effects only help to perpetuate the story. I recommend this for anyone! Do not expect a wartime drama, but instead expect to experience the feelings and actions of youthful men who felt compelled to act on behalf of their nation, for better or for worse! This is not a major cinematic adventure or blockbuster, but what it brings to the table is as true as any form of sincere cinematography.

One hell of an emotional roller coaster...
Reelybored17 October 2016
For one, I'm not really an emotional kind of guy but there is something about war movies that always gets me, my wife will tell you. Thing is, this is not really a war movie. Rather, it is the story of how war can have lasting effects on friendship, family and one's humanity. "Heroes Don't Come Home" really struck a cord with me and the emotions portrayed by the actors really hit home and felt real. It truly is a heartfelt story that really tugged at my emotions. There's a message in the film and, although I'm not a soldier, it was relatable to both soldier and civilian. A great film that I would love to have in my library of movies.

OK been an avid user here and at most trust the reviews.

Time for me to now write my own reviews because I feel there are a few review critics that seem so off key.

I won't ever say much because I like a good film to do it's thing, what I will say is this is a little gem of a story exceptional acting great story seemed very real and could connect on the emotions this film portrays... Just watch it because it's a brilliant film.

gritty, grounded, and engaging throughout
JoshSegel24 May 2018
The script and direction are rock solid and offer up a very incisive look at life after combat. Committed and authentic performances help keep you engaged the whole way through, and the cinematography and editing are top shelf as well. Highly recommended for anyone who's interested in learning more about the emotional toll that battle takes on both soldiers and those waiting for them back home.

Started off a bit naff but got a lot better.

Warning: Spoilers
At first I thought it was just a cheaply made movie with bad cameras fake snow and worse. but the story and character were actually pretty darn good. there's not really any war content, as the movie is more about how it affects people.

one funny part was when someone was dead and covered in a white blanket then in the next shot they weren't covered properly, then in the next shot again they were covered up again!

i was pleasantly surprised by the performances and it was a much better movie than i first expected it to be.

An Indie gem
rmelin1312 February 2018
Not a blood and guts film, thankfully. Just a minor touch of battle action, but the film is not about action, it is about human interference, cynicism on the one hand and blind expectations on the other. The screenplay, acting, direction, and overall production work is exceptional. I strongly recommend this film for anybody who can ride the emotions. Those of us who served during the VietNam conflict, when our lives, hopes, and dreams were interrupted (and for many of us destroyed) by the draft, and had no choice but to serve, will actually appreciate the thoughtfulness behind much of the dialog in this film. I know I did. Watch the film. Don't expect Rambo. 90 percent of the film takes place right in the U.S. and quietly revolves around a small group, primarily between two close friends; one who served, and one who didn't. I'll say no more. Watch it!
