Astonishing

Friday night, alone, tired of wanting to see something on Netflix and not liking anything then I said to myself, I'm going to watch the worse possible TV series so i can just turn it off early and go to sleep.

I found Lady and started watching it right away and I was ready to turn it off... but I couldn't and I didn't, instead, I kept watching, and watching, and watching....

3 hours later it was 7am in the morning and I finally finished watching Episode 3.

2 Weeks later, my whole family got hooked when I said to them... YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!... they started watching with a WTF face but I knew they were going to get hooked... and they did.

Wife and 2 kids and we all got into Episode 9.

Then came the friends and family from my brother... So i told them.. "we are going to watch an episode of a Colombian series on Netflix..." they replied to me "are you freaking kidding me".. oh but I knew what will happen.

We started on Episode 8... sooner than later, that same night we were onto Episode 11.

So, this Series passed the test as successful for my wife, my kids, my friends, my brother's family and more friends, not a single one of them said it was boring.

Why is it that is SO ADICTIVE?

Characters, they are freaking brilliant, the acting is also on par, it's freaking amazing, the little girl that play the role as little Lady is amazing, so full of life, Ms Michelle Orozco you're about the cutest and most brilliant girl i've ever seen on a series, Maria Jose Vargas doing as Lady's friend Yurani is also very cute and they are both incredible talented.

The rest of the cast is amazing, the acting is so well played, you get instantly hooked with them and their lives, plus the directing is top- notch. This is a deep story that works as a roller coaster. It doesn't matter if you don't speak Spanish, see with it subtitles. The series is far better than most junk Hollywood produces these days, it really stands out and I mean, BIG.

Kudos to all the team, If I ever travel to Colombia I would love to meet Ms Michelle Orozco in person, I'm a new fan of her work and my whole family loves her... I'm dying to see how Natalia Reyes plays her role as an older Lady !

Great!

I found this telenovela really enjoyable. It has a good story and relatable characters. The story's based on a true story about a girl named Lady Tabares who struggles to survive on the streets with her mom and brother. Helping her out are her friends who are also neighbors in the same apartment run by the boy's grumpy uncle. It's a sad show but there're also funny, heartfelt moments. The things the characters go through are rough yet believable and in some cases relatable. Michell Orozco as the young Lady does a good job playing the character. She has a charm and whenever she goes through something you sympathize with her. Bottomline, this's a really good show and I highly recommend it especially if you're learning spanish.

Mini spoilers. Lady, the seller of reality

Warning: Spoilers
Based on a true story "Lady, la vendedora de rosas" manages to tell a real story in a very intriguing way and the reason why this show is so good is because the true story is so wild that it's so much better than fiction. The real Lady suffers through many bad things and still manages to fulfill some dreams even with the darkness around her. But like in this show must of the poor people or kids that grow up around violence doesn't have a happy ending, cause the Colombian reality is terribly hard. Must people doesn't have the sources or opportunities to scape from poverty, so they typically fall into violence, drugs and alcohol. This show manages to show that reality with a little bit of hope.

Excellent compelling great acting

An excellent and very compelling series based on a true story, the series provides a compelling insight to life in abject poverty growing up in Medellin. The Spanish is the Spanish of the streets and the cultural differences between the Haves and the Have Nots are evident as much in the language as in the dress and neighborhoods. This is the reality of life in Medellin. This story while often sad and heartbreaking, will make you laugh and will make you cry. An addictive series and I highly recommend it.

Warning: Spoilers
After finishing La Nina, I got hooked on this too. I started watching on Netflix, and just like La Nina, the character development is excellent, and the sub-plots keep you interested. Excellent series. If you start it, there's a great chance you'll finish it. It keeps you wanting more.

I did some research on Lady Tabares and got a clue that she had it pretty rough. But she comes off as a survivor. And this series portrays that quite well. Michelle Orozco and Natalia Reyes did an excellent and convincing job in their roles.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****

After about 2/3 to 3/4 of the series, an excrement storm starts, and it keeps being flung. Everything becomes a mess! And you're thinking, how are they going to clean up this mess. But they actually do. The last few episodes do a good job in bringing some resolution to what was a complete mess.

Standout actor: Juan Pablo Barragán as Mono. I hated that character. The actor played him so well, with expressions and movements that made you just hate his character. He played the bad guy quite well.

Very Good, But..

A very good telenovela, but sometimes it seemed like the stream of anti-gay, homophobic insults was never ending. It really wasn't necessary to advance the plot in any way. Some people might not be aware of the extent because the English subtitles frequently substitute a generic insult instead of the explicitly homophobic putdowns that the actors use in Spanish. Usually, I wouldn't comment on the anti-gay language. But it was truly excessive in this series. I would consider giving this series a nine or a ten, but sorry. The gratuitous, unnecessary homophobia is appalling. The story is otherwise well done.
