This episode is largely a parody of Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Mr. Garrison's campaign rhetoric against Canadian immigration and his desire to build a wall between the United States and Canada are similar to Trump's opinions against Mexican and Muslim immigration including building a wall on the Mexican border. Garrison's slogan "Where My Country Gone?" and baseball cap parodies Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan and ubiquitous baseball cap. The "President of Canada" who appears at the end of the episode is also a caricature of Trump.
During the scene where Butters has dinner with Charlotte and her family, Charlotte's mom says "that's enough Thomas", but if you have the subtitles on it shows her saying "that's enough Donald"
In the scene where Garrison penetrates the Canadian minister, you can see him sniffing a popper.
The song, "Safety Dance," was also used in the season 6 episode "Asspen."
The song being played when Garrison enters the Canadian Presidents office is "The Safety Dance", by Canadian band Men Without Hats.
