Danny John-Jules's character, Officer Dwayne Myers, deals with a young scamp named Jackson. Jackson was played by Danny's son, Danté Langlais-John-Jules (as Dante Langlais John-Jules).
While watching one of the film DVDs supplied by DS Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert) to give him tips on dating, DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) takes notes as Officer J.P. (Tobi Bakare) sleeps when the song "She" by Elvis Costello is heard, indicating that Humphrey is watching the 1999 British romantic comedy Notting Hill (1999). The film is written by Richard Curtis and directed by Roger Michell.
DI Goodman quotes a line from the chorus of Bruce Cockburn's 1981 song "Justice": "Everybody loves to see justice done on somebody else."
At the end of the episode, Dwayne offers Jackson a place on a junior basketball team and when Jackson asks why he says how someone did the same for him at his age. This could be a reference to a previous episode where Dwayne's life-long mentor who helped him be better was killed.
