Just plain wow!!
Sleepin_Dragon27 February 2016
I was hugely impressed with the opening episode, and the conclusion was equally as impressive, what a fantastic storyline, the standard was impeccable. Plenty of twists and turns, tonnes of suspects and blind alleys, at no stage did my attention slip, or did I get bored.

One of the best Silent Witness two parters I have ever seen, this was brilliant. Daniela Denby-Ashe was excellent in this second part, quiet in the first, one hell of a good actress. Steven Miller also, was just brilliant. The ending was spectacular.

Is there a murderer in a police firearms unit?
Tweekums27 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
These comments are based on the entire two-part story rather than just the second episode.

As this story opens a carful of armed police are in pursuit of a motor-scooter; when cornered the passenger fires at the police, seriously wounding one officer, before running off. While some of the squad gives pursuit another orders the person riding the bike to through down her weapon; he hears a gunshot and fires killing her. It is found to be a justified shooting but a year later a Turkish man is found tortured and murdered in a building overlooking the scene and IPCC investigator Vicky Sharpe believes he was killed by a member of the firearms team because he was about to come forward and state that the dead girl had not been armed as the police had claimed. Vicky Sharpe enlists Jack's help. As the case progresses he and his colleagues must deal with Turkish gangsters, potentially murderous police officers and the family of the dead girl who are determined to get justice or revenge. Before they get to the bottom of the case more people will die and Jack will have to question whether Vicky is right or just a conspiracy theorist.

This was another solid instalment in this long running series; there are a decent number of suspects as well as some genuinely surprising twists along the way. The story progresses at a good pace with a succession of clues that point to one suspect then another. Ultimately the identity of the killer can be guessed but it isn't too obvious. As is often the case there are some scenes that may disturb some viewers; including blood splatter as somebody is shot in the head and the sight of a body who has been shot through the eye… of course regular viewers will not be too surprised by such things. The cast do a good job; David Caves standing out as Jack takes centre stage in this story. Overall I found this to be an enjoyable story with a good mystery and some exciting moments.

Engaging but a bit predictable

A good two-part story, nice to see the area in London I lived (and loved) for more than a decade onscreen (Green Lanes). It did get a bit predictable towards the end in the sense that you could tell who the culprit would be by elimination. (Shallow comment incoming: Phil Rowson is so handsome and looks good in a uniform, which helped...)

Hot Blood and Revenge
Hitchcoc10 May 2019
This is a sophisticated episode. We have several possible suspects, one of them a "code of honor." Witnesses are killed for some reason. A man who is certainly dangerous is set up and pays. But who is the likely perpetrator? It gets down to blood and ballistics and hatred. It also involves several attempted cover ups. Well done episode.

the faithful heart and the hard-hearted

Warning: Spoilers
For some reason, I love the merciless killings that populate Silent Witness. They are part of each episode as much as the setting. Blood and bobbies. But these killings begin to inure me to the greater depth of the stories. I found myself drifting mentally during "In Plain Sight." (BTW, isn't the title itself a little too much foreshadowing?) Because it was like a tennis match with a ball of evidence being batted back and forth between the different parties and murdered bodies were the judges of those who played. Almost operatic in tone.

This 2-part story was just another one like all the others. Nineteen seasons now and I admit I am growing tired of the sameness. The same old gunshots, the same lives ruined, the same senseless violence and prejudice. Too much like what I see on the news each day, I guess. Background noise.

Warning: Spoilers
They sure do have a lot of Bent Coopers on this show. I hope it purely fictional representation.
