Nikki's Folly
Hitchcoc6 May 2019
If Nikki were a real person, not a fictional character, she would be long dead. She is so calculating in her work life, but she runs off and gets herself in danger time after time. Both she and Jack are pretty petulant, and often refuse to talk about their problems. Sometimes I want someone to say, "Stop being a child!" That bit aside, this was quite good episode, with multiple factors at work. We eventually find out what happened the night the woman fell on the car and why so much was covered up. Also, we are made aware of another family tyrant.

Compelling and intelligent viewing.
Sleepin_Dragon7 January 2016
The body of Professor Roach is discovered, DI Pamela Rankin and her team are called in, she jumps to the only conclusion possible, that Nikki has killed her former lecturer. Nikki's own torch is confirmed as the murder weapon and she's taken in. Rankin is determined to prove Nikki's guilt, but Jack, Thomas and Clarissa fight for her escape. Who is going to so many lengths to make Nikki look guilty?

In the first episode I felt Liza Tarbuck was a surprise casting choice, but in this second episode I thought she was excellent, she really got under Nikki's skin.

Emilia Fox was fantastic once again, I always love a Nikki story, her character has developed so well over the years. She is now Silent Witness Royalty.

I particularly enjoyed the performances of Dean Andrews and Geraldine Somerville, and the link between the two stories unravelled well. It seemed like a waste of Dean Lennox Kelly, he's a corker and didn't get enough screen time.

It all came together, great story, no wonder it landed over 7 million viewers, that ending was so good! 9/10

Nikki is framed for murder
Tweekums6 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
These comments refer to the whole two part story not just the second episode.

This story opens ten years ago when a woman falls from a building and lands on a car. She survived and claimed to have been pushed by a man named Tony Hamilton. He is convicted, largely thanks to Nikki's expert witness. Back in the present a man is found dead in the bath with both wrists cut… an apparent suicide except that it was done in a way that would be impossible… then there was the nurse's watch lodged at the back of his mouth. Further investigation shows that he had also been injected with morphine. The watch reminds Nikki of another recent apparent suicide case; a woman was found dead with an identical watch stopped at the same time. Her superiors are against reopening that case because it could make them look bad; Nikki insists though and sure enough the earlier case was indeed murder. Not long afterwards Nikki starts to believe that she is being targeted; the clock in her flat has stopped at the same time as the watches; finger prints on the battery lead her to the pathologist who opposed her in the case ten years previously… a woman who blamed Nikki when her career collapsed. She isn't a suspect for long though as she is murdered while Nikki is visiting her; this leads to Nicki being arrested for her murder!

This episode was entertaining for the most part although it was also rather far-fetched… these days it seems that every murder our protagonists investigate will personally involve at least one member of the team. Likewise it seems far too common that the police seem to get everything wrong while the pathologists carry out areas of the investigation that would in reality be a police matter. If you can get past this there are plenty of suspects to keep the viewer guessing; most notably Tony Hamilton, who is now out of prison, his son who clearly has anger issues and an old friend of Nikki's who is a bit creepy and is taking an interest in the case. There are some surprises along the way to keep things interesting. Overall this episode was entertaining enough but I hope future stories are less personal for the protagonists or it could be the beginning of the end for this long running series.

Hopefully Nikki learns a lesson
chatnwithkat-713719 August 2022
The story line was great.

I was enthusiastic to see Nikki pay for her behaviour.

Never a fan of her character I thought it was way past time she learns a lesson about professionalism and sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong. She is always going off on a one woman crusade and by- passing the police. It's about time she paid for it.

Can only hope she learned from it and changes her ways.

Pathetic, weak plot that has so many holes in its laughable
ben-mason1021 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Why programmes insist on these pathetic frame job story lines I'll never know. Arrests are made with no evidence at all just the opinion of a single police officer that clearly has an axe to grind. Lisa Tarbucks character in particular is so unbelievable it almost made me turn it off. Just frustrating to watch, don't be lulled into thinking it'll be OK based on past 1, past 2 will make you realise you've wasted your time.

Twice She Withheld Evidence
ronaldmsingh16 April 2023
Twice she withheld evidence in the same bloody storyline. Once (the clock battery) it actually put behind her behind bars... just the worse writing and started to set the decline of the show, to the point where the latest season is unwatchable. To me once Leo and Harry went, Thomas (no character depth whatsoever) & Jack (who I do like) just lacked the chemistry the former two had with Nicky, and even the addition of the excellent Clarissa couldn't save the poor writing. Great story premises & rightly controversial on-point plots that make you sit up & think, but poor scripting. Sometimes even the best shows hit their sell-by date - that's why they have finales.
