Healthcare
rosa_alba-741303 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I believe, that as many other Europeans, while we know this program is fictional, we do see it as an image of life in America. With everything that entails.

More than most, we are aware of the deplorable state of healthcare in US.

And funnily enough, for anyone who cares to look, it will soon be very clear that European healthcare is far superior, and cost about half, since there is no one who needs to make a profit, and nothing is run by big insurance companies. Healthcare should never be a business, it should be a human right, available to all.

The result of the American system is highlighted here, in this sad story of a mentally ill young woman who can't get proper help, because her sole parent, a loving but poor father, can't afford it.

Good on the writers to show the awful situation for these people, the patients and their families.

Warning: Spoilers
The stories of the ongoing disagreements between police and fire departments has almost become traditional. Ditto for the story regarding the witness protection program.

The story of mental health issues was poignant. We saw police who care in their relations in dealing with such people; we saw the callous attitude of agencies as their workers are over-worked and are drowning in a sea of bureaucracy. We saw the human element in a father's attempt to get help for his very disturbed daughter. While the results were tragic, the story was memorable and should remain a major focus within the police department.

The police/fire thing was and is always basically political. So, what else is new here?

Oh the fireman and policeman must be friends

A brawl between cops and firefighters in Amy Carlson's emergency room has both Tom Selleck trying to work out some kind of way for the two agencies to work together in situations where they have jurisdiction jointly. Dan Lauria plays the fire commissioner.

But the main focus is on an old mob case that Bridget Moynahan was just handed where she is looking into a most cold murder of a drug dealer. Trouble is that Dan Hedaya an old mob informant she used in the past is ready to clear the mob boss she has in her sights.

And Will Estes and Vanessa Ray deal with an emotionally disturbed young woman who has fallen through the system that has more cracks than flooring. It's sad what is not being done for these people and what hasn't been done for almost 50 years now.
