Sorry Robert, This one is a load of bull
studioAT24 October 2015
Robert Lindsay is a talented comedic actor who in 11 years of 'My Family' and in the last 6 of them was the most consistent source of laughter in it. He also in the small group of actors who have a legendary sitcom behind them in the form of the excellent 'Citizen Smith'.

It's a shame then that he has to pop up in oddball sitcoms like this one that surely will go nowhere. The characters are paper thin and the sitcom is so old hat it's almost like one of the items in the shop.

Maybe it will do well and prove me wrong, but tucked away on a little channel like Gold I can't see it happening.

I rather liked it too.

Warning: Spoilers
Come on people, please give this comedy a chance. This was a really nice, fun, lighthearted show, how sad we're only initially getting three episodes. I for one will be hoping we get many more episodes of it. Early days, but the characters are truly funny, really well created. I doubt Maureen Lipman, Robert Lindsay and Matt Lucas would have agreed to do this show, had it not been appealing. Slapstick comedy can make anyone laugh and cheer any mood, it never dates. Please UK Gold put it on earlier then 10 P.M. it's a show that all the family can enjoy. It's been a good time for comedy shows recently, Cradle to Grave, boy meets girl, the Kennedys, good time for laughs.

I wanted to like it, sadly it wasn't funny.

Warning: Spoilers
I managed to get through it, how could this manage to have been so not funny. It was like a really bad comedy from the 80's. Painfully not funny, cringe worthy from start to finish.

Robert Lindsay has a vast pedigree in comedy, My Family was funny as, but no matter how funny the get up he was given this was as funny as having a tooth forcibly removed. Why on Earth did Matt Lucas agree to be in it?

Its like Miranda, everyone else seemed to be laughing at outdated 90 year old jokes. I fear that man trying to sell something in the shop will be done in every episode.

Quite Good!
jackmier21 October 2015
I have seen quite a few varied comments on this comedy (which starts tonight) I find it interesting how people can make any assumptions or JUDGEMENTS when it's not even been screened yet??! interesting that one! Or maybe people are just constantly sour/gloomy or just plain, 'want their voices to be heard'

What I like about the this type of comedy, is that it's simple, by that I mean, quite zany, which is, unconventional, outlandish and a bit quirky! Comedies like 'Fawlty Towers' was quite ridiculous, but if you get it, you're intelligent! and TRULY love comedies! If you don't? then you should just stick to stuff like you reality TV crap or anything else brain damaging!

I for one, know I am going to LOVE and understand it! Bring on the BULL

A load of

It's not often that the title of a show is also part of it's description but in the case of "Bull", I think you will find it hard not to imagine yourself thinking what a load of bull---- this is. A typical, modern "sitcom" in the loosest sense of the word. It has a situation, i.e. an antiques shop, and some people think it is a comedy. I'm afraid I belong to that group of people that thinks comedy needs to be funny. I found very little funny about this. Maybe if you're the kind of pretentious lamebrain who thinks the constant repetition of a particular word or phrase is hysterically funny, then you will probably find this so. Personally, I left that kind of humour behind before my eleventh birthday.

Having "Bull" showcased on a channel that regularly screens "proper" comedy in the form of "Only Fools and Horses", "Fawlty Towers" and "Open All Hours" isn't doing it any favours. Maybe it should have gone out on Dave. After Midnight. When something good was on another channel. I'm all for variety in comedy and the encouragement of British-made TV, but this is little more than elitist undergraduate sniggering-in-the-wine-bar comedy of the type most normal, everyday folk find utterly immature and plain stupid. Robert Lindsay and Maureen Lipman, both veterans of classic British TV sitcoms, deserve better than to have this kind of puerile garbage on their CVs.

Maybe it's the setting? After all, "Never the Twain", also set in an antiques shop, or rather two antiques shop, was hardly a classic despite featuring two fairly good comedy actors and it, like "Bull", featured a dimwit assistant. Then again, Victoria Wood's classic "Acorn Antiques" skit was also set in an identical situation so maybe it's just that "Bull" isn't very good after all.

It's a funny show.

I am glad to see UK Gold making some of it's own programmes, it's great to see them put out something new, other then just repeats of Keeping up Appearances and Only fools and Horses, I'm sure we now all know them word for word.

It seemed like an attempt to update Never the Twain, Rupert and Beverley Bull run an antiques shop, they employ the rather hapless Faye to help with their business.

I'm a huge fan of both Maureen Lipman and Robert Lindsay, both are truly awesome. They both have undoubted screen presence, and perfect timing, slapstick has been missing for some time. I like dull silly humour, I will laugh at almost anything, I just don't need decibels of canned laughter to tell me when to laugh. There was the odd moment with a minor laugh or something that just wasn't funny and the canned laughs were in hysterics.

Such a shame we're only getting three episodes, would love to see more, it's turning out to be a good one.

Utter Garbage

I happened upon this today, episode 1, It was SO bad I recorded it for my wife to watch with me, she was as flabbergasted as I was, considering it had Robert Lindsay, Maureen Lupman and Matt Lucas, we were amazed by how unfunny and badly written it was, WHO was it written for ? I'm happy to see it didn't last long, HOW was this ever commissioned??

I can honest say I haven't seen worse than this utter BULL****.

SO funny
MarkSampson-75-93526521 October 2015
I am a fan of all these incredible actors in the show, but in particular, I loved Claudia Jessie, and thought she was absolutely fantastic in this very funny comedy!

I felt the show was not only funny as mentioned, but great comedy timing! The opening scene has to be the funniest thing ever! Claudia Jessie was hilarious in it. I absolutely adore Maureen Lipman, who is a comedy genius!

Script is faultless, and very well put together and delivered well by all, Toby Williams was also fantastic and of course lets not forget the great Robert Lindsay!

I do hope there will be another series, as I believe this is just the first of 3! I hope so, we need more comedy shows like this.

Thanks to the writers and GOLD

Adore this!!!
PetraWillows28 October 2015
Ignore any negative reviews, they are laughable in themselves!! You've hardly watched the show, one episode? really? please!! Just go back to watching Hollyoaks or something. (miserable bleeps)

Thankfully I am one of the majority that like this! First episodes are usually tasters, and you can't really tell how you feel until you've given it a chance. Some shows can be a bit slow to start, but I actually get it! This comedy is a little gem and I for one think it's great!

Here you have two experienced comic actors, 2 of the best in the industry, still making us laugh! I really like the young girl in it, she has some brilliant facial expressions! Love to see more of her and I like the boy too. We haven't see the best of Bull yet!

This might not be to everyone's taste, so why are you even making a comment here? really seems weird! If you don't have a sense of humour then just DON'T watch

It's not good - it's GREAT!
ciaodevato22 October 2015
People make me laugh when they just watch one episode of something and give it the thumbs down, without giving it a chance, really silly! And to sign up to IMDb just to tell us?!

Well I for one will be watching it to the end! How can you tell from ONE half hour? Some people have no patience or imagination.

This series has much room to grow, if given a chance! I have watched comedies in the past where I wasn't too sure about the first episode (because I haven't gotten to know the characters yet) but have seen them flourish and become popular!

This is a crazy, comedy full of mad cap eccentric behavior and the characters are very funny, in fact, all absolutely crackers! Yet well portrayed!

Love the kids in it (they're going far, really like Claudia Jessie) they work well together with Robert Lyndsay and the GREAT Maureen Lipman. I really hope it does well, it deserves a chance!

Progressive comedy at its best
EddieRash20 December 2022
Q) What do you do if you have a store room full of bottled mineral water, and the best-before date is tomorrow?

A) You drink it all, and then spend the rest of the day running to the toilet.

This simple idea could only have come from a comedy genius, presumably one of the two writers.

Sadly, only three episodes of Bull were made. But they were three of the most mindblowingly joyous and ridiculous programmes I've ever seen. Masquerading as a bog-standard traditional British sitcom set in an antique shop, with good old Robert Lindsay and Maureen Lipman at the helm, there were in fact no limits on what was possible and where the joke was going next. Progressive comedy at its best.

Claudia Jessie deserves a special mention. She must have been born with funny bones.

We had them recorded on an old Virgin TV box, but that is gone now and I have no way of ever watching them again :(
