Put it back on the shelf immediately!

This is another case of being fooled by the preview. This little gem made absolutely no sense whatsoever. The acting was laughable and it progressed at the rate of a wounded snail. I'm not sure what the director was going for here but if it was creating an hour and a half of drivel I'd say he hit it out of the ballpark. I should have taken a clue from the fact that the video store only had one copy in. You may like it who knows? Some people like a good root canal. My advice would be just say no.

Not worth the watch.

The big question is, why? What leads to "horror" is partly revealed, I think? This movie felt like a foreign film trying to be an American film. The actors have room for development although not terrible to be fair. At times the actors give a sense this movie should have been a comedy-horror. I am not saying the movie presents humor in its dialogue rather the script could have been re-written & a good comedy-horror might have been born.

Horrible acting and bad casting
rks-7496923 April 2021
While the story is quite nonexistent, the acting is really shabby and the father is terribly unfit as a parent. I struggled to finish watching this movie.

Unwelcome Talking Demons
HughBennie-77722 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Decent enough thriller has a father and daughter navigating a nightmarish environment surrounded by demons and other phantasms who never shut up. Why won't horror film-makers understand that evil is never scary when it talks? Despite ruthless online savaging of this flick and its acting, they obviously haven't seen most horror DVM from Lionsgate. Some good scares and distressing family dysfunction are what separate this movie from your average gorno nowadays.

Puts the Roar Back In Horror, But Not Theologically Sound
beorhouse20 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Not since Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II has there been as frightening a film made about Hell. Unfortunately, we are left with the mental illness of the protagonist after his death instead of actually finding him in Sheol either awaiting the Judgment or perhaps making amends for his wrongs in life, but thus goes the commonplace false theology based upon utter misunderstandings of what Jesus teaches us. All of the spiritual trappings are there--the rationalization, the inordinate love of creatures, the self-righteousness, the abandonment leading to violent abuse, but the director doesn't seem to be around when it's time to tie it all up and make it an informative package concerning life in the hereafter. The acting is fair, the setting is good, and the story had potential but didn't quite make the grade. Want far better Horror than this? Try The Blackcoat's Daughter, for one. Or maybe Ink. At least these two have their Christianity on an orthodox even keel, unlike this demi-film. I give it 5 out of 10 for visuals alone. There is no sex, but there is drug use and massive alcohol consumption--as well as verbal violence and grisly murder.

What a waste of time
RandomTard20 December 2021
Well I just couldn't get through this horrible movie. It is so bad and so boring. The acting is worse than I've seen in long time, I'm guessing they're italian or something. The whole story is just a mess and not interesting. And it just keeps on going, boring everybody to sleep.

So so so bad
armadilla172 May 2020
Everything about this movie is bad, from the acting to the plot to the absolutely ridiculus latex mask that was bought at a Halloween store. His blood sister spoke with a weird accent when the main character spoke English. It's just bad.

You Can Try To Drown The Truth In Lies, But It Will Always Resurface!!
wandernn1-81-68327425 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Started watching this on Amazon where it is called 'Dark Silence'. It opens with a man walking with a box up some stairs past a little girl playing with dolls, then it goes into LONG LONG OPENING CREDITS.

Next scene man is teasing daughter about giving her doll a tour of the House. Then female friend rings bell. They talk about how he is looking for a new start yet he brings all his past with him. They discuss the little girl, how she's not talking after her mother's death. And how dude could use a little....you know....help. I gather female friend is dead mother's sister or something but who knows.

Okay,, man goes into basement where theres a lot of strange items down there. Chains and what looked like some sort of iron cage. One of his daughters dolls is down there and since he doesn't want her going down there he locks the basement door. Oh I was wrong its the ATTIC. Not a basement. My bad.

So that night Man has weird dream about some guy running off with his daughter. He goes to check on Jennifer, who is asleep but has made a drawing of her closet/ wardrobe door opening and shadow being inside it.

When they go kick a ball together around at a park, Jen sees man at the edge of the trees. The same mummy wrapped face man that Dad saw in his dream. And dude dreams of the mummy man again. As he's shirtless in the woods. He also dreams of his friend, warning him to LOOK EVERYWHERE.

But Jennifer, she wakes up hearing her name being called from her wardrobe. Then feels something get into bed with her.

Man is still dreaming? How long is this dream going to go on???

He meets with Susan the family friend / sister whatever, and he tells her that somehow him and Jennifer are entering the same dreams. Hhaha then Craig at home finds Jen' drawings that show that mummy figure crawling out of her closet. He tells her she's not sleeping in that room anymore and locks up her door.

Oh dear, Craig wakes up from a dream and finds Jenny gone. He rushes up to the Attic and there she is sstanding wiht the mummy man. The mummy man speaks to him???!!! That he must confess his guilt!!! The mummy man accuses him of being a coward!!!

Okay next he's on the phone.

Surely that wasn't the end of that encounter with the mummy man. -1 Star for that.

He's on the phone asking about his father and is being told they can no long help his father wherever it is he's at, and Craig needs to come get him and move him to medical care. Plus he's late on whatever payment needs to be made. So Craig hangs up.

Later he calls Susan and whines about his life on the phone on a MESSAGE! Never leave drama on a message I say.

-1 Star for the long soliloquy that was way too long to fit on a voicemail. It would never happen.

He has a dream now about his mother and dad? About how Craig did bad things and his parents suffered. In his dream he asks for forgiveness. But his parents in the dream tell him he can't help them or Jenny. Then his mom tries to strangle him!!!!! Also in the dream he speaks to Dead Susan. Dead Susan tells him it's time to OPEN HIS EYES!! She tells him that he is the creator of the suffering around him and it is time to PAY!!!

then he finds himself in front of the Blind King, his daughter Jenny on a chain like Princess Leia was in front of Jabba The Hutt in Star Wars. The Blind King / mummy man proceeds to give him a basting on what a failure he's been in his life.

Flashback scene to where Craig's wife threatens him with divorce and that she is going to take everything he has, including his daughter. What a nice woman! Then she grabs a bottle of pills and a bottle of booze, and next we know Craig finds her unresponsive on the floor, and he FINISHES HER OFF!! Well hell he just helped her on her way right?? Haha and Jennifer turns the corner and sees Daddy hovering over Mommy!!! The Blind King continue's lecture over Craig's past transgressions!!!

In the dream, Craig grabs sharp object and stabs the Blind King. In reality, who is he stabbing at the same time? Is it Jennifer??? Oh he has killed Jennifer in real life while in I guess this daytime dream stabbing the Blind King?? Wow.... And perfect timing Sister Susan is knocking on the door and trying to get in. Craig finally awake and seeing what he has done to his daughter, slits own throat. The scene for sister Susan to find.

Is it over?? No. Another dream scene? How can one dream when one is dead?? Craig in front of Blind King and his dead wife and daughter are both there and none of them have Eyes. The Blind King welcomes them and the viewers one and all to his Kingdom!!!!

What a stupid ending to a stupid story.

-1 Star for the Ending and we end with a 2/10

good story, average acting
lifelinespublishing13 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The story line was good, the director did narrate the story though I was not truly convinced of the acting of the lead actor, honestly speaking, it was a bit underwhelming for me, the special effects was alright and there were some scary scenes which the average horror movie watcher would appreciate (in my honest opinion)....

Dark Silence was the first title of it though I watched it titled "THE BLIND KING" overall, I gave it a 6.5/10 and if you don't have any good thing to watch this weekend, I suggest this one...

Demonic misery for the underdog.
parry_na1 August 2019
There's a lesson here; always persevere with a film past the first fifteen minutes. On first attempt this seemed very much to me like an Italian production (it is actually Italian/Canadian) trying too hard to emulate a wholesome American 'family' horror - which it is in a way - but the results go beyond that kind of blandness.

Following the death of his wife, Craig and his mute daughter Jennifer (Aaron Stielstra and Eleonora Marianelli respectively) move into a dilapidated home. Craig looks and dresses very much like 'your average guy', and uses American slang, but has an accent, as all characters do. He also has a slightly manic edge to him. Jennifer is a sweet child, terrifically acted. Her sense of fear and unsureness is conveyed entirely through her eyes, and I would hope Mirianelli has a successful future ahead of her. Craig's sister Susan (Désirée Giorgetti) provides scant, and often pretty unhelpful support. In flashbacks, wife Helen is played, rather stiltedly, by Sofia Pauly.

Craig seems to be sinking into his own private hell, exacerbated by his daughter's increasingly dark dreams. As we learn a little more about him, we find he has a catalogue of failures behind him. The dream-like figure of The Blind King (David White), a chatty mummy-like demon, appears to be orchestrating Craig's anxieties through shared dreams and threatens to engulf him completely. Or so it seems to me - a lot of this is open to interpretation, despite much psychological dialogue. This appears to be the curse of the underdog, the black sheep of the family, the loser.

This is a dark journey that runs out of steam a little toward the end. My score is 6 out of 10.

You're a Loser
nogodnomasters5 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Craig (Aaron Stielstra) has moved into a new house with his daughter Jennifer (Eleonora Marianelli) following the death of his wife Helen (Sofia Pauly). He gets little support from his sister Susan (Désirée Giorgetti) who has an accent. Jennifer has made herself a mute and communicates through dark drawings about a monster/man in the closet. She has bad dreams and Craig share her nightmares.

About an hour into the film we get the details of the story of Craig, "the loser." They key to the film is when he tells a Greek mythology story to his daughter, hint: think Greek mythology, the Blind King...although the budget was too low for decent special effects in that regard. SPOILER: Craig has carved out a personal hell for himself because he was a loser and a bad film maker...a place I would consider SRO.

I liked the thinking behind the script idea. The piano sound track was annoying as was the performances by actors best known for their one line support roles. The execution was bad.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
