Some episodes are iffy (I still love them, but I know they aren't always a 10/10). This is not one of those episodes. First, Alberto did a PHENOMENAL job playing Simon. I am always impressed, but he depicted his frustration and conflicted sense of self so well this episode. Bravo. Kat also did a great job playing Clary in the scenes with Alberto, even if the Clace scenes were still a little awkward.
Harry also never ceases to impress me, and his scenes with Matt were heartbreaking. They work so well off of each other; Harry did a beautiful job showing Magnus' heart shattering. I cannot wait to see more of these two.
Dom and Matt blew me away with their fight scene. The voice cracks, the shallow breaths - so stunning. The emotion was raw and real, and I have never been so impressed with Dom before.
But the most important part of this whole episode (in my opinion of course) was Alexander Lightwood. Matt impresses me every week, because Alec is not an easy character to play. He is broken but pretends to be whole. He is afraid of just about everything but pretends to be fearless. He feels guilty every time he lets his emotions cloud his judgment, because he has always been taught to follow the rules. Matt is one of my favorite actors, because what amazes me is his ability to act with both his body and his eyes. On the one hand, Alec's demeanor is cold and harsh and soldier-like. But when you look at his eyes, you can actually feel how much he is hurting, how conflicted he is at every moment. To be able to embody a character that much is truly incredible.
I cannot wait to see this show blossom in a second season (if we are so blessed enough to receive one) because the actors have done such a phenomenal job embodying these characters, and I would like to see their stories unfold on screen.
