I'm a Sex Toy!
nogodnomasters30 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Sienna (Tracey Birdsall) is the girl on the cover who looks like Pamela Anderson. Unfortunately her acting ability is about the same. The hairy guy who looks like a Wookie, so we can mistake this for another film, dies in the first scene. This is a post apocalyptic earth in a war of humans vs AI and some AI on our side. We have wormholes and can do Terra-forming, but the idea of separating humans and AI by the length of half the galaxy is out of the question. The plot becomes twisty as Sienna is a complex character, one that was ill conceived and not well played.

On the plus side the special effects and cleavage was good. Sienna runs a bit like a girly-girl. Note to self, get rid of the heels during the apocalypse. I was bored with the story and lack of any likable characters. Attempts at humor didn't work as they search for "Hawking radiation." Writer/Director Neil Johnson has a cult following so expect questionable Amazon praise reviews. I find his science fiction attempts on the boring side while others love him. The feature has won 17 festival awards including Tracey Birdsall as an "actress" which I find as improbable as the current 8.9 (June30, 2017) rating at IMDb. I suggest there has been some ballot box stuffing by loyal fans and has nothing to do with the quality of the film.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Very bad
sailaway_rasmus21 July 2018
Well, the stars i give to this film are only for screenplay and the actress. Very bad film editing, very bad special effect, it is also not a sci-fi movie, cause the film without effects would get 5stars from me. Do not use effects if you do not know how to create it. A short review, cause i want you to focus on low budge movie with very bad special effects, specially for lights. They even do not know whats is blur in photoshop, this film will hurt your eyes, which i prefer to watch walls instead of the screen of tv.

"Mystery Science Theater 3000" Material
robloveinkorea30 August 2017
This was absolutely one of the worst movies I have seen! The story line, production values, acting, editing, just everything felt like it was made by high school kids in the AV (audio/visual) club. The first ONE minute, showing battles between the A.I.s and humans, was the best part of the movie, but it then immediately went downhill... scratch that... after the first minute it then plunged over the side of a cliff.

The only good thing this movie has going for it is it is excellent material for "Mystery Science Theater 3000." In fact, while watching the movie I kept inserting my own jokes just to muddle my way through it, and that is how I immediately came upon the thought of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" and wishing I was watching it with them!

mediocre at best
paulieboi8423 September 2017
i didn't have too much hope in watching this. pretty much nothing else to watch at the moment so i gave this a go. i wasn't disappointed. i wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. its mostly the acting skills that was meh it but the crappy CGI made up for all that. cant expect too much from a movie where they pretty much focused on the main characters cleavage over half the movie but give it a watch. its like an adult film with an actual plot but none of the porno.

Parody -- but of what?
lannaheim6 September 2017
I rarely rate a film 1 -- mostly because I avoid them. But for some reason I got this from Netflix, and felt obliged to watch (no, I don't know how it got into my Netflix queue).

The first 40 minutes were so stupid, I could barely stand it. All this AI, but giving them robotic voices. The pneumatic, platinum blonde main actress. The tired tropes.

A complete waste of time and money. JUST AN OPINION.

Loved It
ethanleefilms8 March 2020
I though this movie was great! 25 wins, that's a lot! Had a bit of terminator, lara croft and star wars for me personally. Special stand out actress Tracey Birdsall did great in this. I'm giving it a 8

Worth a watch especially for the women out there
hjegranger22 September 2017
CONS: Some of the robot voices are hard to understand. A lot of lens flares. Have to watch a few times to figure out the plot as it's really fond of twists and turns even though it seems straightforward at first.

PROS: Finally we have a male character who is the eye candy! I think that maybe some of the annoyed reviews is because SkullCrusher is essentially taking place of the traditional girly sidekick who is there to look pretty. He can act, but his arms are very distracting. ;) The story is interesting, a few moments that caught me off guard. A female action star that is actually kicking ass and gets utterly filthy and sweaty and looks like running in those boots is a giant pain but doable. I'm very tired of watching girls bounce in dental floss and appreciate they didn't constantly refresh her makeup to look dewy instead of tired and gritty.

Essentially all women out there, watch this. There's only a few women in this film but they all have an interesting roll -would have liked to see more of Xarxis(?)- and I took it as a tongue in cheek poke at classic storytelling. If you'd made Sienna a male character I bet a lot of these reviews would have been nicer.

Give it a go!
d-ramseeey19 January 2020
What's with all the reviews? I I thought this was a great sci-fi flick. Beautiful and cinematic shots, solid cast, acting and Tracey Birdsall is a winner for sure. The script was good and my eyes were glued to the screen right to the very end. Watch for sure!

You need to watch this a few times
nickanackdesigns31 August 2017
The best advice I can give is to go in to watching this one with no expectations. It fits a lot into a single film, requires a few times revisiting to catch all the small things they fit in there.

The first time through you may be going "Wait, What?!" but on subsequent viewings a lot of the small things they fit in make sense. Really I would have rather seen this set as a multi part TV special as there's a lot of room to expand. Fortunately I've seen on the web that may be happening.

I was lucky enough to go catch this at one of the showings in Los Angeles and went to buy a copy for myself afterwards. The Q&A there had a lot of information that makes some of the other reviews on her laughable. For instance they really did their own stunts in this. Skullcrusher, Sienna, Blister? They ran all over and fell and joked about all their injuries from doing so.

The fact they spoke of how hot those days were added a lot of respect to those scenes in a wasteland. If they're sweating and grimacing that's real. Give me lens flares then, the struggle the Actors are going through is the real focus in this film. Sweeping character arcs are crammed in to the point if you only watch it once you may miss some of the events. There's a lot of them.

This reminds me of the good old Sci-Fi days when you didn't bicker over special effects but the story and it had to be more than just techno-babble. There's action, there's drama, there are a lot of questions still needing to be answered. But in a way that leaves you curious. Give it a few watches, you'll need it.

Harsh reviews for a truly enjoyable galactic ride!
asst-6475631 August 2017
It's funny when you watch a sci-fi film, how harsh the viewers (nerds) can be. I saw all the harshness online and thought I would see what the buzz was all about. I realized at that point that none of those people have any vision (or hearing) whatsoever. If they came out of their dark closets they would see a truly brilliant film - probably the best thing Neil Johnson has ever put out there - by miles!

Gorgeous cinematography, top-rate acting (I especially liked Tracey Birdsall and Daz Crawford's performances). I'm a lifelong fan of Neil's work, but love that his films are feeling so much more studio-like.

BOO to the cruel nerds, and YAY for an awesome film!!! Can't wait to see the next one!

Didn't expect that
whitedemoness31 August 2017
Actually I would say that sums up the movie. I was settling in for a nice explosions and robot mess and I got a lot of surprise twists. Not a bad thing at all, just a lot more than I expected. The acting in this is good, the way the actors bounce off each other and the slight jarring nature of some scenes only helps enhance the crazy events going on. Seriously though my favorite character is the floating robot. Snarky AI. Love that.

Earns its place in my heart for being a wonderfully enjoyable fun trip through the stars
frompagescreen23 June 2017
With this being a science fiction film dealing with a battle between good and not so good, a lot of people will have to try and compare the film to something or other. Before having seen the film, people might think oh Star Wars or Star Trek but there is more of a wonderful Mad Max meets Resident Evil (although there are no zombies in Rogue Warrior).with Sienna being such a great character and played so well by Tracey that I actually thought to myself a couple of times 'Move over Alice, Sienna's in town (in a reference to the Resident Evil franchise) Im still not a fan of recommending a film by saying 'it's like this film, or like that film' but that's the way it's done nowadays

The high concept pitch is more often than not, the way to go and it works for Rogue Warrior:Robot Fighter. That's not to brush aside the ton of originality that you'll find in Neil Johnson's film and whilst Tracey Birsdsall's Sienna is a wonderful blend of Furiosa/Mad Max, meets Alice from the Resident Evil films and some Selene from the Underworld franchise, But even with those ingredients. Sienna is definitely Tracey's role and she makes it her own being super watchable and likable as she battles to survive against robots and the harsh landscapes she faces throughout the film (and the fact the scenes were shot on location, makes the landscapes seem even more hostile)

Neil Johnson's direction is brilliant, and if you are inclined, then check out the estimated budget for the film on the IMDb page. Lets just say that for the money spent on this film, you couldn't even film a single episode of Game Of Thrones. I often say that budget doesn't matter to a film fan. A low budget doesn't make a bad film, and a high budget doesn't make a good film But with the low budget (and it is for a scifi film but its still a lot of money) Neil Johnson has made a film that looks like it should have cost ten times the money spent on it. The visual effects are not only fun but also very effective in the film but they always have been in the other films of Neil's I've seen he certainly deserves the 'highly visual filmmaker' and knows what he is doing when it comes to making this type of film.

Rogue Warrior is a ton of fun to watch and with a set of great characters and a universe that just begs to be explored in future films, I for one hope that the film does what it needs to do in order for Neil and crew to venture into further installments of the series. I love that Rogue Warrior:Robot Fighter got me a little nostalgic. As a child I used to love watching science fiction films that became cult classics such as Spacehunter:Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, Krull, Metalstorm, Battle Beyond The Stars to name a few. I can easily see myself rewatching Rogue Warrior over the years as it ends up in my cult collection. Science Fiction films are a treat for me and I love watching new takes on them as well as ones that homage others. But for today. Rogue Warrior:Robot Fighter very much earns its place in my heart for being a wonderfully enjoyable fun trip through the stars.

A fresh take on the coming robot apocalypse
rogeramills10 August 2017
Very hard to write this without spoilers. I expected it to be standard low budget Sci-Fi fare. Didn't expect to like it, but about half way through I loved it. Where they got it right was the characters. Tracey Birdsall plays Sienna, a warrior in the wasteland who is fighting against a mysterious AI called the scourge. Confusing at first until you get to the end. Make some very valid statements about the future of AI without going down the usual territory. Very clever Sci-Fi writing and the mention of Hawking radiation (and knowing what it is) showed that the writer's did their homework. My only gripe is that the studio didn't sink a lot of money into this, but that doesn't affect my rating. Very clever Sci-Fi. Holland, the floating robot steals the show in a couple of scenes.

A sequel? A prequel? Anyone?
rogerbannister-233741 August 2018
This seems to be part of a bigger universe, and I strongly suspect this is a prequel of sequel to an exisiting film. The character os Sienna reminds me a bit of Laura Croft meets the Terminator, in a messed up way. The film has an almost dread-like Star Wars feel, which brings it close to the David Lynch Dune universe. Someone obviously spent a lot of time developing the universe here, because of all the hidden gems that appear upon second viewing. Definitely in my top 1000 films, beyond that, time will tell if I like this film as much in a few years. Hoagland, the robot (named after Richard Hoagland) almost steals the show.

People create accounts just to post a negative review of this????
jflinders-8745221 August 2017
Well, I genuinely bought this on Walmart, Loved it! The main character, Sienna has a great adventure this film, I admit was taken aback by the "big reveal" in the middle. Almost bordering on... (cannot spoil)... but after a couple days of thinking this, the script was very well played and staged. Not an average story. Quite deep if you like real sic-fi. Loved seeing Dez Crawford from Agents of Shield as well, but would have wanted MORE of him!!! There is a guy from Lord of the Rings as well who is amazing.

How do you review this without giving spoilers?

Really enjoyed this. I hope there is a sequel

Great feature, amazing feat!
christopher-31224 September 2017
The key to a fair review is to judge the piece for what it is or was attempting, not for what you think it should be. Rogue Warrior was so much more than your standard sci-fi story that I think some of the reviewers here missed the whole point. This movie reached further and delved deeper than any movie of its kind in recent history. Thank you to film maker Neil Johnson for taking a risk to make this more than the standard VFX circus that we come to expect. (Although, the effects are amazing!!) Excellent performances From Ms. Birdsall, Mr. Kircher, and the rest of the cast helped to bring this script alive. Loved it!!

Tracey Birdsall gives a STELLAR performance.
richardb-5323324 November 2017
I've seen Tracey's work over the years, and she continually improves upon herself and her craft, but wow... this is true A-list level performance value. I've now put Neil Johnson's other films on my must see list, but am wondering if it's the material, the director, or if she's just gotten that good? What's next? I was truly shocked by her performance, and the other actors did a nice job too. CG was well-above what I expected for an indie. Stand out for me was watching Tracey though, as I've been a fan for many, many years. BRAVO! I felt inclined to write this review after seeing all of the cold-heart troll reviews. I find it impossible to believe that people would strike out just to be cruel on a film such as this. Shame on you.

Love Love Love this movie!
michael-8287017 May 2018
How did we not know we needed this movie until we watched it?!!! I love anything Tracey is in, but this might be her very best role yet. The nuances in the character and the fact that you just cannot wait to see what she does next or where she goes next... I just wanted to die when this was over because I wanted to see where it went next?! What happens?! I was completely drawn into her character, her world, and her impetus. Why did this have to end?... What happens to her? A brilliant film to be only compared to in the future of whatever she does next.
