The show's theme music was written and performed by The Horne Section, a jazz band led by Alex Horne.
Before it became a TV show, Taskmaster was tested when Alex Horne sent 20 comedians monthly tasks by email over the course of a year. At the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, he hosted "The Taskmaster" show where he revealed the players' attempts at each task and announced the winner. Horne hosted "Taskmaster II" the following year with ten contestants.
Host Greg Davies commonly refers to his assistant Alex Horne on the show as "little Alex Horne" despite Horne standing a well above average 6ft 2 inches tall. This places Horne in the top 4% height in the world. Davies himself stands an impressive 6ft 8 inches tall, which places Davies in the top 0.02% of adult males in the world.
In addition to appearing as a contestant on series one, comedian Tim Key works behind the scenes to help create tasks (his show title is Task Consultant).
On the Taskmaster podcast Alex Horne confessed that during shooting he sometimes uses his iPad to check football scores.
