Just made me wanna watch "The Devil Inside" again.

This film popped up on Netflix and I've been starving for a decent exorcism film lately. I checked IMDb and it had a rating of 6.0/10 (209 votes) which isn't bad for an obscure foreign horror flick and it had yet-to-be reviewed by critics or users, so I was hoping to be the first to write a glowing review. Unfortunately this is yet another bog-standard entry in the demonic possession genre.

Considering that it's clearly a relatively low budget independent film, the production values aren't too shabby. Sadly the acting, the effects and the dialogue fluctuate between good and bad. I noticed a lot of grammatical errors in the subtitles. You expect that sort of thing when you're watching a dodgy pirate copy but obviously you expect more from an official Netflix release. The demons are like watered-down Deadites from The Evil Dead. They display all the usual demonic clichés such as body contortions, sticking their tongues out and asking priests to f*** them :p

There were a couple of twists but they were nothing we haven't seen before or couldn't smell coming from a mile away. I thoroughly enjoyed The Last Exorcism even though the ending was a bit crap and the sequel was a lot crap. The last decent exorcism flick I saw was The Devil Inside over 5 years ago. I'm aware that it has a low IMDb rating and the reviews are wildly mixed but I consider it to be a 9/10. The ending was lacklustre but it left me hoping for a sequel. You may wanna consider watching or re-watching The Devil Inside before giving Diary Of An Exorcist a go... unless you're Portuguese :D

Do not read this Diary

And not because it's not nice to do so, but because of the lack of a certain quality. Also substitute "read" with watch. Unless you get your hands on the script, then ... but you get my point (also don't be mean, of course there was a script ... I think). All jokes aside, maybe some do congratulate the fact that we have a brazilian horror/exorcist movie.

You know, seeing the positive sides and all that. If you can, than that is good for you. The video quality and the acting quality speak a different language. A very bad one, that most people will not really put up to. That doesn't save us from twists all around, although I don't really know or could tell you if they make sense. I gave up caring or taking notes quickly ...

Good to watch with friends

It's good to support Brazilian productions, mainly low budget ones. Horror movies aren't easy to pull or distribute around the country. The locations and settings are okay, and there's value to take from it. But only if you get scared - which is a big thing in horror movies.

The acting isn't all that great (apart from the possessed characters), the colors are too saturated, the dialogues sound odd, the sound design and quality aren't consistent and sometimes throws you off. The special effects are okay at times, and really bad at others. I won't go so into the story itself, but the pace, the balance between flashbacks and current events, and the settings for the characters makes the script confusing and not scary at all. The jump scares are predictable too. If you are easily scared, sure, go watch this movie. If you want to drink with a group of friends and watch it, it's also very fun (for the wrong reasons).

Not saying it is a hopeless production. The scenes in the dark are done well and there should be more of it in the movie. The director has a good chance of getting better, I believe.

This movie tells the story of an exorcist whose family is afflicted by demons. The main character is a Priest tormented by his father suicide caused by a possession. Although is a low budget film it has impressive effects and a lot of jump scares. Recommended for those who loves scary movies.

I really liked the movie. Surprising for a low budget movie. The effects were very good, have their problems, but this is good. I liked the performance of Father Lucas, an excellent actor.

Recommended for those who loves scary movies.

Congratulations !!!

Pretty good.

Interesting story that succeeds at being quite horrific. The effects were well done considering the obvious low budget. Definitely a legit exorcism movie.

I enjoyed it with the subtitles turned on. It kept me interested even though it was somewhat predictable at the end.

A better than average Exorcist move...with subtitles.

Good horror movie

Different possession film. It frightened me in certain places, but there are some things that I do not like. For an independent production, without money, they did a miracle. I enjoyed watching, I felt afraid, in some parts not, but it was good. Congratulations to the filmmakers. Go on, you have talent.
