Bad to really good because of the surprise ending
mistela6726 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I originally hated his movie. Seriously. I thought this was going to be yet another Saw rip-off. And the acting, dialogue, and direction was so horrible, I barely got through the first 30 minutes.

HOWEVER, there is a twist to the ending that shocked the hell out of me. It was so good that it made my original contention make perfect sense, and for that, I am impressed. Didn't see that coming.

I'm trying not to give too much away here, but I'll say this, stick this out to the end. Trust me, it will all make sense.

Even the "government program" thing solves my only contention (illegal detention).

Great movie with a nice twist ending here. Recommended.

hardly right to be labeled 'thriller'...
ayannareese-6449727 February 2021
...and the label 'suspense' would only apply if that droning first hour was actually engrossing! But, sure, that single twist in the name of justice just about makes up for all the time lost.

Interesting but predictable
nmfsd21 May 2018
The dialogue was good (screenplay), and the acting was fairly convincing, but the endgame was very obvious. I watched this because I love psychological thrillers like this, however after 20 minutes in, I knew what was going on. The story overall was good, but the direction it took was made for simpletons. If you can't figure it out, you need to exercise your brain more often.

The Eyes- Don't Believe Everything You See
rontepper-384011 December 2017
Well, rarely do I write reviews for a film which could be acted out on stage, but despite its terrible reviews, I have to give this a 6/10 for the plot twist alone. I didn't it see coming.

6 strangers are tied up and bound in a cellar. They all have no idea how they got there. They are told that only 1 will leave alive and it's up to them to decide on which one. As the story unfolds, we find a government agency is behind it and there is a secret reason they are all there. But is the reason given true, or is there something else going on? They all confess to being sinners, but despite the flashbacks we are shown, can anyone's confession be trusted?

"The Eyes" may not be a well acted film but to be honest, there is a reason for that too, as you will understand at the end of the movie. It makes me laugh at the reviews for those who trash the acting. I guess they miss the whole point of the film, or just weren't paying attention.

One can argue that this is hardly a film by normal standards. It's a play that happens to be acted out ON film, and as for its wooden direction or shoe string budget, who cares? I wasn't expecting Doctor Zhivago.

For those who expect "Saw" because of the setup, it isn't. There is little violence if any in this film. What we really have here is an elaborate game being played out- a cat and mouse tale, whose sole purpose is to set up a very unique and clever twist. As time goes by, "being original" is becoming harder and harder. They at least tried something clever. It does keep you guessing, and the ending makes it worthwhile- for those who are willing to hang in there.

Worst acting ever
KatoC17 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
About six minutes before the end Nicholas Turturo's character says something like "I have hired these fine actors here..." That is the overstatement of the day, in my opinion. Now, I don't think the actors are dilettantes per se. They do seem very unmotivated in the sense that they all just act each one his or her own part. Isolated, no chemistry between them. The film plays in one room only, the filming however may well have happened at each actors home, and afterwards cut together. I'm not sure about the plot, is has been done before, nothing even close to "Saw", but anyway. If you plan on going to acting school, maybe you should watch it, if only to ask the right questions in class about how to avoid bad acting. Or maybe, for the same reason (acting school attendance) you might want to skip on this film.

Amazon even did't try
edgy-827-48696518 November 2017
I seen bad TV-movies, really cheap, with budget around maybe 1 000 or 2 000. But this! This something, internet companies like amazon, netflix, hbo - invest good money in series, but original films - one lousy another. This film maybe cost around 200 bucks, and half of that go on food. And maybe actors play for this food. Who knows? But script not so bad, just... call this theatrical play or something, don't sell it like it is a film, because its don't. And Vincent Pastore! Oh my god! What an actor... really, he was ridiculously bad.

A low-budged tribute to the genre
The_Swedish_Reviewer17 March 2024
Six people wake up in a room tied to their chairs. They get 2 hours to figure out why they are there. Then bad things will happen. This is the typical premise of "escape room" movies and The Eyes is no exception. Yes, it's a low-budget contribution to genre but has a nice quirky ending. The actors are B-rated but do a decent job throughout the film. At one point the film gives away a little too much but the twist at the end saves it from a nose dive. Don't expect an excessive production. It is basically a bunch of actors, a room and a camera. But if you like escape room movies, this isn't too bad and can definitely be compared to Exam, House of 9, Nine dead and others.

Who wrote this!?!

Dialogue, delivery, plot setting and were TERRIBLE! Disembodied voice was flat, yet rushed. Just awful reading of horrible lines. "Pretty porn star" girl reacted like a two year old having a tantrum rather than a traumatized, terrified person. Cursing teen just cursed for zero reason. All the characters were unlikable and the acting was so, so bad. Randos awaken tied to chairs, badly acted confusion and anger ensues. "let's get to know each other!" Weak backstories disclosed, (also limply acted,as is par for this movie). My fave plot holes were the multi angle "surreptitious" drone murder shot, the lawyer with no legal airs whatsoever, everyone KNOWING they are being accused of all being murderers and no one saying anything until forced. Could have been a decent movie if written and acted better.

Plot twist is awesome!!!
acsdesignworks26 November 2023
This is one of my favorite twist movies of all time. The lead actress isn't great but not necessarily because she's not good but because that's the script. Wink, wink.

I love movies where you don't know the actors, it makes it more real. I love twist endings and am so tired of the same old stuff where you have to google to figure the explanation. Over it. Also, hate sci-fi.

I saw this years ago and have been searching for it ever since.

Absolutely impeccable.

For the haters looking for plot holes, when it comes to Sixth Sense, who hired him? Talk about a huge overlook. It's always easy to poke holes in an otherwise brilliant movie.

Love love love this movie!!!!!

Ending totally bogus
wlborum29 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was awful for reasons stated by others. But the ending made it beyond idiotic. The idea that someone can be retried in another state after being found not guilty somewhere else is ridiculous. Double jeopardy does attach. And the "confession" would be thrown out as coerced. At least give us a premise that's not insulting!

5 strangers were abducted and tied up to play a game of life and death.
kingblue-7222011 July 2017
The Eyes is a very good suspense thriller film shot at one location only (almost)yet enticed its viewers by emotionally captivating them with the backstories of the characters and of course, with its deceitful plot.

Aside from the good plot, it also has a good music and cinematography.

If you have a penchant for mind-blowing movies, this movie is definitely for you. Go check it out at Redbox.
