Dorothy has changed.

Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers. Observations. Opinions.

Dorothy has changed. She is now adult, and a nurse. She is someone who helps others.

We get introduced to her mother, and we did not see this in the Wizard of Oz film. In that movie, Dorothy appears to be an orphan who lives with her aunt and uncle plus some farmhands.

In that movie, Dorothy has a dog who is her firm companion. A mean, evil busybody woman wants to put him in the "dog pound" (animal shelter). Toto is small and cute.

In the old film, Dorothy and Toto go over the rainbow to Oz and eventually head toward the Emerald City to see the Wizard of Oz. In this new series, Dorothy and large dog Toto (who is a police dog/German Shepherd) also try to get to the wizard.

I don't see any Auntie Em or Uncle Henry in this new series, but I like this new show.

Dorothy does not sing in this new series, but that's okay.

There are no Lollipop Guild or Lullaby League members meeting her, either.

The Beast Forever
Prismark1025 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Emerald City is a dirty grungy re-imagining of The Wizard of Oz tale with a dashing of Game of Thrones. No one will be singing 'Over the Rainbow' here.

Dorothy (Adria Arjona) is a young nurse looking for her birth mother. As she visits her home which seems to be a crime scene, a tornado sweeps her and a police car with an accompanying German Shepherd into Emerald City where she has presumed to have killed the Wicked Witch of the East with the car.

The Wizard of Oz (Vincent D'Onofrio) and the Wicked Witch of the East's two witch sisters are in shock as to what has happened. Only another witch can kill another witch. This could be a sign that the Beast Forever is out to seek vengeance, a force that regularly cause havoc in Oz. The Wizard saved the land of Oz from a previous attack from The Beast Forever and pledges his protection again. He dispatches a soldier Eamonn to find out what happened and kill the person responsible.

Dorothy is taken to a tribal village led by Ojo and warned that the witch's death will make her a target for the Wizard and other witches like Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy travels to the Emerald City with the dog called Toto by the villagers to find the Wizard in the hope that he can send her back home, not knowing that he has already sent someone to kill her.

Along the way she meets an amnesiac soldier on a crucifix (the Scarecrow) but the two are attacked by the Wicked Witch of the East. She was not really dead but Dorothy persuades her to shoot herself with a police handgun.

Despite the brooding look of the opening episode, Director Tarsem Singh does add colour and iconography like he is still directing an REM music video but he cannot control the emotions of the actors.

Dorothy is not enough in awe of the strange weird land she has just landed in. The Wizard in a bad wig comes across as a tin pot creep.
