The young ingenue "stealing" Lady F's trademarked scream is the funniest moment.

Warning: Spoilers
The Mask of the Demon, the season four opener, is lots of fun as Kembleford meets British Hollywood (Bollywood?). We are also introduced to Inspector Mallory played by Jack Deam. Jack Deam brings a massive caricature to Inspector Mallory, with no explanation for Inspector Sullivan's departure.
I like very much the behind-the-scenes look of the movie being shot in Kembleford, and it's lots of fun for sure.
I'm enjoying catching up with the early seasons of Father Brown, along with Magnum, P. I. (the original one). It makes good daytime television really when working as well.
This episode is worth watching at least once.

Kembleford hosts vampires, demons and a gay man......surely not.

Kembleford plays host to the production of Horror movie 'The Demon Brides,' naturally there is opposition to the film, director Vivian Wolsey has even received death threats. When one of those threats comes true, it's up to Father Brown to unmask the killer.
I find this a bit of a mixed bag, the good aspects include the cast, Jonathan Firth and Deirdre Mullins are particularly good in their respective parts. The black and white film scenes look great, and are in keeping with the Gothic tone of the tale. Mark Williams as always is a joy, his facial expressions are a treat.
On the downside I find the story a bit silly, perhaps the 45 minute format constrained it a little. It felt a little like a squashed version of the Midsomer Murders episode 'Death and the Divas.'
Fun, but not the best. 6/10

The Mask of the Demon

Father Brown goes to the movies as a film crew is in the village making a horror film and the director, Vivian Wolsey is terrorising the cast and crew.
The star of the film is Rex Bishop a friend of Lady Felicia and the two leading ladies are being played off by the director even though one of them is married to the him.
When the director is found dead there are no shortage of suspects as Vivian knew many people's hidden secrets, was prone o blackmailing people and was also a voyeur.
There are some nicely black and white filmed sequences and actor David Schofield is having a James Whale of a time as the maniacal horror filmmaker.

The man who wasn't there?

I just saw this episode and one thing really confused me. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in any reviews...or maybe I missed something? The only male star of the movie mentioned was Rex, the "good guy." What about the slightly Nosferatu-like villain who was actually attacking the women? We saw him in costume, acting, but at no other time. Because he was downplayed so much, I kept waiting for him to become a suspect. Was he played by another cast member, and I just didn't "get it"?
Vampires in kembleford

Vampires, divas and horrid director ... this is an enjoyable episode, mainly because I am fond of murder mystery on film sets. Also I guess this is an ode to Hammer studios - here, Father Brown investigates the murder of a B movie director when he comes to film in Kembleford.
