New opportunities and chances
michaelafamfulikova28 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Plenty of new things going on. A new Firestorm half is found and Professor Stein has a new partner to merge with, but the search was not that easy. There is also an dramatic turn of events at Iris West's family. I dare say this episode was the best ever acting performance of Victor Garber's while he were on Flash so far. I got misty eyed at what his character, Dr.Stein told Caitlyn when they were parting with him at the end of the episode - he commemorated her love of her life "Ronald" Raimond Best episode actors: Danielle Panabaker (Caitlyn Snow), Victor Garber (Dr.Martin Stein),Grant Gustin ( Barry Allen/The Flash),Candice Patton (Iris West)

Don't have much to say
okraievskyi4 September 2022
I don't have much to say about this episode. I liked the story, I couldn't predict the whole Hewitt twist. I loved the new Firestorm and how it's now more similar to his comic book version, even though the whole 'New Firestorm Finding Out Barry Is The Flash' thing was kinda unresolved and not mentioned. Iris's character arc was nice and the little continuation to Cisco's arc was really cool. Everything else was good, but the dialogue could use some improving. The end felt kinda too sudden and weirdly paced, though, even though it was surprising. Overall, not the best episode this season but pretty good and I'm really excited to see all the character arcs continue in future episodes.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Fury of Firestorm
lbramson10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Martin Stein is nearly dying, so to save his life, Team Flash goes to find another host for the Firestorm powers which got in the wrong hands. This was a problematic episode, but not a bad one. I'm still frustrated that Firestorm just leaves at the end of this episode, but what can you do? The rest of the episode is a fun little side quest that even introduces KING SHARK (a giant humanoid shark)! Much like the last few, I don't have much to say but it's alright and a good 7.2/10 as a whole. Season 2 is off to a very, very mediocre start. Let's hope things pick up in Episode 5 because my favorite season isn't looking so incredible now. The Fury of Firestorm is on the same level as the last if not a little better.

Best episode so far this season
cobi-8062028 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
If not it's tied with the episode "Flash of Two Worlds".

We have finally gotten a new Firestorm episode. I really liked the two Firestorm episodes last season so this episode is for me currently the best episode from season 2.

Team Flash (finally) realizes Prof. Stein's condition is an urgent matter. He needs to stabilize the Firestorm-matrix within his cells. To do so he has to merge with someone who is compatible like Ronnie was. Caitlin is fast to find two people who are compatible. The two are Henry Hewitt and Jefferson "Jax" Jackson. As predicted one will be willing and very excited to merge with Stein and the other will not. After failing to merge with Prof. Stein Henry Hewitt gets upset and walks away in anger. After saying he doesn't want to be a part of it and then end up being persuaded by Caitlin Jax agrees to merge with Stein. It works, almost better than it did with Ronnie. The "new" Firestorm sets off with The Flash to fight an aggravated Henry Hewitt given the codename Tokamak (who's a known Firestorm villain from the comics). They face off in a heated battle where Tokamak is defeated and put in the pipeline. But I asked myself afterwards if that was really fair to him, but I guess he's too dangerous. However, didn't Ironheight's have special containment cells for storing meta-humans, when are we going to see those?

Meanwhile the story with Iris's mother returning continues. Iris rejects her mother and then later we learn that she's dying AND she has a son which most of us know will be Wally West. The West-family story will most likely continue into this new discovery.

Did I forget to mention that Dr. Harrison Wells (from Earth-2) is sneaking around in the shadows throughout the episode? Right, he's first seen at STAR Labs and later at Mercury Labs where he seems to be stealing something. He finally reveals himself at the end which was totally surprising in a very pleasant way.

The episode seems to be ending with our heroes safe, the villain defeated and Barry has his narration of what we learned today. He stops outside of CoJitters for a moment to see Patty sitting in there *SWOOP* he's grabbed by this giant Shark-Man (very good CGI work BTW) who appears out of nowhere (and I'm like HOLY S#*T!) Patty runs to The Flash's rescue but it ends up being Harrison Wells (from Earth-2) who shoots the monstrous shark to his death(?).

Great episode. Like I said I like Firestorm and I think all the lesser characters deserved this episode to get a chance to be in the spotlight so I give this episode a 9 out of 10.

The Flash Team; Anti-Heroes?
thebluepandorica28 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
WARNING: SPOILERS!

I honestly have no idea how I feel about this episode. It was the most anti-hero episode ever, in my opinion.

Dr. Stein is dying because his molecules aren't stable. They have two potential recruits; Hewitt and Jax. Everyone in the Flash team except Barry supports of Hewitt, while Barry supports both of them, but is skeptical of Hewitt. At this point, I predicted the entire episode, Hewitt would not be compatible with Stein, he will get mad for Reason X, Jax will end up becoming a hero by combing with Stein and becoming Firestorm, the end. Turns out, that wasn't exactly how it went. I suspected Hewitt to be unnecessarily mad, that isn't how it went. AFter the failed attempt to bond with Stein, Hewitt's dormant abilities were triggered after the attempt to merge, therefore making him unstable and 'firey'. In my opinion, Hewitt had every right to be mad at The Flash Team, they literally ruined his life. He lost his job, he was arrested. Like, what the hell.. The Flash team were literally anti-heroes in this episode, they ruined Hewitt's life, they made him lose his job, he ended up being arrested, they burned Hewitt out, and then KEPT HIM CAPTIVE, and THE SHOW IS TRYING TO PORTRAY THEM AS HEROES! THEY AREN'T HEROES.

Anyways, aside from that, Patty and Barry's relationship grow stronger, Iris meets up with Francine and realizes that she doesn't want anything to do with her, which was a pleasant surprise at the end because I expected some cheesy scene, but I honestly give an applause to the writers for this.

Stein and Cisco talk about his powers, I liked this scene as well.

And the last scene at the end of the episode is probably one of the greatest scenes this season so far, don't want to spoil it, cheers everyone.

What I REALLY liked:

+ Iris's decision about Francine + The Last Scene of the Episode

What I REALLY disliked:

  • The Flash Team being anti-heroes

Embrace the Change
ThomasDrufke27 October 2015
There was literally a man shark in this episode. I mean a shark the size of Gorilla Grodd that walks on two legs like a man. It just hit me how weird that is in the same universe that we have the show Arrow. Oh how far we have come since 2012. Anyway, this episode was all about embracing the change in your life and accepting new possibilities. It's a nice continuation of the first episode's theme of moving forward. Sadly, this episode falls short in many areas.

As I always say with network television, there are a lot of filler episodes and while I don't think this was necessarily the dictionary definition of a filler episode, I hardly believe the events will have much impact on the future of The Flash. It will however have implications for Legends of Tomorrow. I think that's one of the reasons why both Arrow and Flash have gotten off to a slow start is that there's a lot of time spent setting up another show. With Sara in Arrow and Firestorm here, we haven't focused all that much on what would be the main story lines.

Stein's ongoing issues feel like a rehash of season 1's arc with his merging with Ronnie. But I'm glad to see that that side arc appears to be closing until the big crossover mid-season. The idea of picking out a guy to merge with Stein seemed to be taken lighter than it should have. It will be interesting to see how Jax deals with the merge later on in Legends. Perhaps they will dive deeper into more of what Firestorm can do as Stein said? But knowing he will be a major part of Legends took any suspense away from that final fight. Plus, Hewitt overplayed that character right from the start, so I was borderline checked out by the time it came around.

I guess I have to talk about Iris and her mommy issues. We all knew Mrs. West had something else up her sleeve as she wouldn't just show up out of nowhere. It turns out she has Macgregors syndrome, the same disease that Mr. Freeze's wife Nora died from. Yet another easter egg from Batman lore. She also was hiding her *surprise surprise* son from Joe and Iris. Hmm I wonder if his name is Wally. That whole situation just played out a little too predictable.

Wells from earth 2 apparently found access to Star Labs in earth 1 and moped around for the episode before taking down man shark. I wonder if when he was exploring and stalking the place he came across Jay Garrick? Because god knows where he is. I don't know, to me, this episode as a whole felt very disjointed. With a good portion of the material setting up Legends. But I just feel as though most of this stuff could have been spread out over multiple episodes. Maybe I just want less Iris material. The big positive of this episode comes from the ongoing flirtatious relationship between Patty and Barry. A far better fit than Iris will ever be.

+Patty

+Jax seems to have good presence

+Link to Mr. Freeze

-Too much setting up

-Convoluted episode

-Hewitt overacting

Deja Vu all over again.
rwseidel27 May 2019
The originality of these stories resides in the ability of the writers to pull rabbits out of hats, to fly into an impossible situation via Deus Ex Machina airlines, and to rehash old episodes into disjointed story mosaics with abstract patterns unintelligible to ordinary humans. If there were metahumans in the real, as opposed to the comic book cosmos, they might understand the plot, or at least find it in the infinite number of parallel universes that the writers have grabbed off of pseudo scientists (read string theorists). Wait until they find out about the other seven dimensions they invented. Although the use of scientific knowledge used to be the staple of hard science fiction, the postmodern state of science is incapable of supplying any stiffening to this rubber story line.

Some troubling issues in this episode
marcpsinger14 June 2021
I enjoy this show, but this episode seemed to have some serious blind spots regarding race: first, the Flash drawing blood from two black men without their consent reminds me of the whole Henrietta Lacks controversy. Second, Professor Stein tells a black character to use his "natural athletic ability" to fight another character. That may not be wrong in and of itself, but it harkens back to that traditional racist dichotomy between white athletes who possess a work ethic and black athletes with "natural"physical skills. I am not calling the show racist, but these are really just examples of thoughtless writing where people should know better.
