Step Up and Do the Damned Job
XweAponX7 December 2015
What makes this show great is the lack of filler episodes, there is something new and interesting with each Ep.

What seems to be coming to a head is a thread started in the last Ep of Season 2 where Simmons got swallowed by a Rock. In S301, it shows where she went, and later the nature of where she went. But it is more than that, it weaves into the Inhumans storyline of S2 and even back to the first Captain America film where Red Skull abuses one of the Infinity Stones. It even relates to The Avengers films and also Guardians of the Galaxy somewhat. On one end are the infinity stones, which we will be seeing in the next set of Marvel films, but what Agents of SHIELD deals with is Hydra's place in this story (And of course, the Fate of SHIELD).

We've been assuming Hydra was an organization created by the Red Skull. But the level of fanaticism of Hydra agents could never be explained. And Grant Ward is the Ultimate Hydra True Believer, the ultimate fanatic.

In this episode and Episode 8, we now know that Hydra is most ancient and has a singular purpose, which is tied to the Sand-Planet somehow, we never knew it until now. We don't know much about what awaits on the Sand-Planet. But it appears that Hydra spirited away chunks of the portal that Daisy obliterated "for future use".

The only ones who really know how to use those are Fitz-Simmons, so we know they are involved, voluntarily or involuntarily. And even Ward's involvement is at the whim of another Madman, Gideon Malick, another true believer, played by the consummate professional bad-guy Powers Boothe. As he twists Ward to do his bidding, that's where we see the core of the Fanaticism of Hydra. And we know that he is lying to Ward somehow.

Ward of course shoved Coulsen off the deep end (purposely) and it seems that he knows exactly what Coulsen will do, which of course, he does, being the man he is. But there is one thing Ward could not predict, how far Coulsen will chase him to get what ends up being pure revenge.

I have my own predictions of what's going to happen in the next episode, but why worry about that, we'll know soon enough. But all I will say is that both Coulsen and Ward smash their i-Phones.

And, we still have Lash being held somewhere by Hydra, another loose Cannon, who it appears only has his own agenda: will he end up being an Ally or an Enemy- What's his place in this?

The best part!

Warning: Spoilers
Here comes the most interesting part of this season. I must say this episode is just awesome which will bring us to the climate of story. New Inhuman team Vs Hydra's powerful remnant! Everyone is in their peak emotional era. Actually I still have a hope of Ward will reverse his villainy action at one point. One thing for sad is that Skye(Daisy) is no longer at the core role and I think it'll be like this for a while. It was always Coulson who made the turning point and excitement. I believe this series will catch up the rating of top DC's in very soon. If some back up from Avengers will cross over in future episodes, i am sure the whole world won't miss the scene of their appearing. Bingo!

beyond the writing

Warning: Spoilers
It is understandable when talking about an episode written by Team Whedon to focus on the writing. After all, in the entire history of TV nobody does end-of-the-world sci-fi unrequited-love stories like these guys. The fact that the good guys here have to choose between losing one of their own or retrieving Satan from another planet ... just another day at the office for the Whedons.

But look at the acting. We don't associate SHIELD with the acting but we should. First of all, let's be honest, Gregg was a gamble, an attempt to continue the Marvel TV franchise without one of the expensive actors from the big screen. But it worked. He is selling his character more and more from week to week.

And take an extra close look at the scenes between Dalton and Boothe. Boothe is a proved commodity, an A-lister from when most of the viewers were still in diapers. But Dalton, my favorite character from Season 1, also keeps stepping up. You get the feeling this guy could hold a Hollywood feature together if he had to.

Re-watch thoughts

This episode is the definition of a game changer, if you tell me a brief synopsis of ep 10 before I watched this one I'd call you crazy, because of how drastic things turned, there is a huge twist before the credit even starts! This episode was also very emotional, with both Coulson and Fitzsimmons going through a lot in it, we also get some closure (pun intended) on the Ward family saga, which I thought was amazing. Quick round of applause to the acting in this episode, the whole cast brought their A game in it, particularly Clark, Brett and Iain who had some difficult scenes , I also really loved the music this episode. There is great set-up to, this show is amazing with mid-season finales, but it's even better in the episodes right before finales, this episode is the poster child of those!
