Season Two Review

It's taken me over a year to get through this second season of "Avengers Assemble". I have to admit, that's mostly down to me only watching the show when I've got my son in the room, and need to watch something appropriate, more than any turndown in quality for this second run.

With the Red Skull (Liam O'Brien) defeated the attention of the Avengers become focused on Thanos (Isaac C Singleton Jnr) who in after the infinity stone that Skull stole from him, but later returns with a plan to destroy the Earth. In between those, the Avengers sign up a new recruit Ant-Man (Grant George) to the chagrin of Hawkeye (Troy Baker) and fight with Squadron Supreme, a similarly powerful team who believe that order can only be established through subjugation.

Much like with the first season the animation is fine and functional, if perhaps lacking in some form of signature style. The vocal performances are good, again nobody is trying to mimic the voices of the actual film stars, but they do capture the essence of the characters. This season is a little more focussed on its two or three big story arcs, and less on villain of the week type episodes and I do think that it could have done with a few more of those types of episodes to work around and break up those stories a bit.

As with that first run, I'm not absolutely loving the show (hence the reason it's taken me a year to watch it) but I am enjoying it enough that I'll keep progressing on into season three and see what that's like.
