The affairs of love does not ease up with the passing of age...

It is my love for the Asian cinema that made me come across "Salut D'amour" (aka "Jang-su Sahng-hoe"). I had no idea what the movie was about, nor who starred in it. All that really mattered was that it was a South Korean movie, and South Korean cinema has some pretty impressive movies available.

"Salut D'amour" started out a little bit slow, but quickly became interesting and the characters in the movie were fast becoming likable and outstanding. And it was actually quite nice to see a South Korean romantic movie that stood out from all the romantic comedies that they make.

The story told in this movie is a story that quickly sinks in under your skin and sticks with you, because writers Sang-Hyeon Lee, Je-kyu Kang and Eun-jin Pang really came up with an outstanding, original and lovely story. And director Je-kyu Kang did an excellent job of bringing the story to life on the screen.

"Salut D'amour" has some good acting performances to pride its screen and further the storytelling along on the screen. Aging actor Geun-hyeong Park and actress Yeo-jeong Yoon really carried the movie so well and both had so much on screen charisma that it is very difficult not to take an instant liking to them both. And the chemistry they had together on the screen was just fantastic.

There is something for just about everyone to be seen in this movie; there is comedy, there is romance, there is drama, there is even a bit of action, but most importantly of all there is an amazingly beautiful story being told.

It you enjoy a good romantic drama, then it would a real shame to let "Salut D'amour" slip past you, regardless of if you enjoy South Korean cinema or not.

Poignant

I watched this on a flight to Asia. Though I was born in Japan and live in the US, I find some similarities in Japanese and Korean culture. I think Korean films do a very good job of incorporating appropriate humor and funny scenes while tackling some serious subjects. Salut d'Amour is a good example. Without giving too much away, what starts out as a comedy with some quirky characters turns into a very touching and moving film with a surprise ending. As a grown adult caring for an aging parent with dementia this film touched my heart deeply. I hope it gets distributed on DVD or thru the internet so it gets the viewership it deserves.

Brilliant and moving - a gem

This extremely touching movie about and old man and his budding romance is a real gem. Don't read up about the plot before you watch this movie The subject matter has been dealt with in some Hollywood and French movies but in a dry one dimensional way. This movie is so much better and wide ranging. Plus it feels real and has humor which most Western movies about this don't. I won't discuss the plot twist because there will be so much more impact when if you don't know it. Everything fits in and feels even more poignant when things come together.

True love that imprints on the memory even though age increases

At the beginning of the story, the audience was invited to see the situation in the village in ancient times. There was a bus that stopped at the side of the road and a man in uniform on foot, when the bus stopped, the uniformed man rushed to find someone, when he found someone he was looking for, the man called a girl who had not he recognized with a glowing expression. After introducing the story at the beginning of the film, the audience is now taken to the present scene. The story of this film tells of an Old Man named Kim Sung-chil (played by Park Geun-hyung) who lives alone in his house. From first seeing the look on Kim Sung-chil's face who looked angry because there was a car parked in front of his house, the audience was able to catch the character of Kim Sung-chil who tended to be temperamental. Kim Sung-chil works in a shop run by his boss, Jang-soo (played by Cho Ji-woong). Jang-soo has a daughter named Ah-young (played by Moon Ga-young) who is dating Min-sung (played by Park Chanyeol). Sung-chil falls in love with his front house neighbor, Im Geum-nim (played by Yoon Yeo-jeong), an old woman who secretly cooks rice for her every day. Im Geum-nim has a daughter who lives with him, Min-jung (played by Han Ji-min). This film has a conflict between families. It was told that there would be renovations in the area around them to work, almost all of the shops agreed to procure the renovation, but there was one shop that had not yet agreed to, namely Jang-soo's shop. Jang-soo's shop hasn't agreed because the procurement of this renovation was strongly opposed by Sung-chil. However, when Sung-chil began to deal with Geum-nim, the temperamental Old Man slowly began to become a stiff person as a teenager who had fallen in love for the first time. They had dinner together, had a double date with Ah-young and Min-sung like teenagers in general. Not only that, they even date themselves in the playground, dance, and fight in public like most teenage couples. But behind it all, there is a sad story at the end of the story where the audience never guessed it. Ending of this film made me shock. Sung-chil, who had thought his life was alone, turned out to be not as alone as he thought. The character of the actors and actresses in this film is very natural. Even the audience can get carried away by emotion, sadness and sorrow presented by actors and actresses. This film is also a big screen acting debut from Park Chan-yeol, a member of the famous Korean boy band, EXO. In my opinion, his character is very fierce, innocent, cowardly and simple, far different from Park Chan-yeol, who we know as a rapper in his group. His acting is not too special considering he only gets a small portion. This film tells about, no matter how great the problem is, how painful it is to be forgotten, but true love is always there to remind him. Geum-nim's figure taught me to keep thinking positively and live happily as hard as any temptation that hit. For those of you who like drama-comedy genre films, I recommend this film to watch.
