Don't watch it if you are an original EW & DG fan
toogoodu-5638912 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Although the movie IS watchable, it has nothing in common with the original series, except for the names of the characters.

It's failed attempts at camp and humor actually make it funny enough to watch. Adding some horrific violence and gore into this did not help their cause either.

Both actors had potential, but they just didn't give it anything. I think the guy playing Frank was the best character in this film. I love the twist they gave his personality......that fit so well with the modernization of this....uh, fiasco.

If you ever watch this, treat it like you would a very badly made fan-film. It tries, but it just doesn't make it. Kind of like watching a fan made Superman flick where Superman is a scrawny nerd instead of a buff he-man, wearing a saggy Superman suit. It just doesn't fit.

I liked it.

I found this movie by sheer accident. A cross b/w 'The tick' and 'Mystery Men'. As a huge, life long superhero fan, I really liked this movie. The good.. Both lead girls were endearing and really well cast. They worked really well together and the rapport between the two made the movie. The fight scenes were awesome and both girls looked like they could really kick ass. Would have loved to have seen heaps more of these scenes. The not so good... The story was very predictable from the first 5 minutes. Even the identity of the supervillain was of no surprise. As mentioned, great fight scenes however, they were very sparse with the movie focusing on cliché character / relationship development. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and enjoyable viewing. I would have liked to have seen this as a longer movie with more villain battles and more money invested. Both Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart carried the movie and made it worth watching. Hope they do a sequel but hopefully with a bigger budget and a better story line to showcase the two great lead characters.

Pleasant little film

Amusing story and some smart dialogue. But there's more to acting than just saying the lines. A bit like a film-school project?

This is what happens...............
Krugerharn20 December 2018
When you get two people from You tube who have zero talent. A stale, generic show that seems to be aimed at the handful of people outside of YT who know who these people are. The show is going to fail hard.

Grace is famous for acting like a moronic 12 year old and Hannah is only famous for drinking, yet some idiot thought they could hold up a show. Even tho every show/film these two have been in has bombed or faded away before it's even started.

Maybe now Producers and Directors will learn that outside of YT no one cares who these talentless people are.

If there is nothing left to watch on the planet, I would still skip this cancelled trash.

Surprisingly entertaining

Like just about everyone I'd never heard of the short lived TV series, but decided to give this a go with crossed fingers, having been burned too often by a catchy title hiding a dull film.

The story, about two very low profile costumed heroes stepping up to the big money league, is never too original (except right at the end), but it's saved by a snappy script and two very likable leads. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and there are plenty of laughs in what ends up being a lighthearted romp.

It's not overlong, coherent, witty, well acted and a fun way to spend 80 minutes, especially if you have a fondness for superhero films. You may not rave about it to your friends like you do the big budget blockbusters, but you WILL get them all to watch it, and that's the mark of a good flick.

Sequel please.

What Have They Done To These Two Heroines?
jeremycrimsonfox11 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As a fan of the short-lived TV show, I was actually excited for this, as it was looked like it would be a good parody of how superheroes are used by Hollywood to make money. However, after buying this and watching the entire thing, I was shocked at how Sid and Marty Kroft would allow Legendary Digital Studios to portray these two underrated heroines who were the female version of the 1960's Batman show.

While I have no beef with Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart as the two heroines, since I thought they were okay, my problem is the overall tone of the characters. Unlike the TV show, they act like complete jerks, like one scene where Electra Woman tells a woman with a peanut allergy to eat all of the snacks with peanut butter in them. I mean, is that how a superhero is supposed to behave? Another problem is the use of blood and gore (one scene has Dyna Girl ripping a masker robber's arm off with a gadget, and the ending basically has the two defeating the main antagonist using a peanut, because the villain is Bernice, which make the ending not only anti-climatic, but also pro-allergy bullying).

Also, the movie is set in an alternate universe where superheroes are used to sell products due to supervillains no longer existing because of an event Electra Woman calls the Shadow War. While it is a good departure from the usual good vs. evil stories of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it fails due to how the story is written. The humor is not funny, and the characters are uninteresting. Steer clear if you like the original series.

Far from a masterpiece... But a fun flick to watch!
afallguns10 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Electra Woman and Dyna Girl is the perfect great movie to a lazy afternoon, and I don't say it like its a bad thing, au contraire, its a great thing! The movie doesn't take itself too much seriously, and sometimes that is all someone wants.

Unlikely most stuff I watch, I didn't see this one coming. I watch Hannah Hart's and Grace Helbig's every other videos in their youtube channel, but the announcement for this movie, or series(?), passed under my radar. The suggestion popped out, and I had to see it, 'cause the girls are genuinely funny. And it was a lazy afternoon. Turned out, I didn't know, but it was exactly what I wanted to watch.

The plot is basically the same of many buddy movies from the last thirty years, and the movie acknowledges that almost proudly, again, for not taking itself too much seriously, and for a comedy it is indispensable. Even in the clichés characters as the success thirsty protagonist and her idealistic and slighted partner, the greed "evil" agent, the popular douche-bag and his awkward and kinda rejected friend, the socially inapt "nerdy" prop guy and the bitchy girl. They pulled off those "I've seen it already" moments quite fine, with a funny turn out of events or good punch lines.

But the thing that makes Electra Woman and Dyna Girl different from every movie of his genre is the fact that movie relies more in the performance of the two leads, than in its plot. The viewer is able to disclose the whole plot in the first act, there's no big twist, but our eyes are drawn to the heroes, expecting the next funny moment. The performance of Grace and Hannah was sincere, it was something you are acquainted from Not Too Deep or My Drunk Kitchen. And it is enforced by the everyday joke, like getting an Uber, vertical filming with the phone, or the joke about every superhero being an orphan. And lets not forget the chemistry between the two, that are big partners in many projects and friends(I suppose!), and gave more credibility to the relation between the characters.

Bottom line it is a funny movie, with some silly bits, but everything you want for a lazy afternoon! If you had a chance you should watch it.

D-List Movie
jha_dan4 January 2020
A very boring movie and their attempt at humor completely misses the mark... I don't think I laughed once through the whole movie. I'm puzzled by all the high scores people gave this movie, I can only think they were written by friends and family.

I write this in the hopes of saving others from wasting time :)

So boring. So very boring. Nothing new. Endless unfunny banter that just drones on and on. The two main actors have zero personality. Terrible camera work. Just terrible.

Fun clever banter
johnasterlingpub15 October 2020
I really liked it! I watched it as an Amazon prime movie not as a TV serial. You need to pay attention to catch all the funny double meanings, otherwise you will miss some of the less obvious ones. The other thing that makes this so fun is the over-the-top antics from the characters. It was zany in a very fun way.

Nothing like the original, the innocence is gone
gmk231110 January 2021
Growing up, this was one of my faves. I enjoyed it much more than batman. I remember the actresses being hot and the stories being campy. We probably watched the same 10 episodes at least 5 times but it was never really boring to us. This film has some boring parts, But also some fun interactions. It would have been so much better if they had tried to get look alikes for the original actors to bring back the nostalgia or at least models to do the acting, or makeup that could make these actors look good??? The 2 actresses they chose were probably the worst aspect of the film and lead more to it leaning toward unwatchable than the effects or the sometimes failed attempts at humor. I suppose I should not have been surprised that the actors were utube personalities, of course, that explains so much! At least you know to lower your expectations way down. If they had made it more like the original in presentation it would have been much better. Obviously, with their small budget they had to do a lot of weird camera angles and cut aways to perform their special effects which hurt the film. I'm torn whether to say the effects were decent based on the budget, or they were bordering on unacceptable. I suppose they used most of the effects budget on the first couple of Electra-shocks and the supercar rental fees. The arm gag was hilarious. As noted in some other reviews, the best actor seems to be their agent. Everyone else came across as pretty amateur. To do the extreme closeups they did (because of small sets) with the poor makeup that they used, It was pretty brutal on the eyes. I just felt horrible for those actors watching their finished product and seeing every blemish, wrinkle and mole in its hi-Def glory. I can't say I would watch it again. I would be more likely to seek out the original episodes from the 70s and experience the true nostalgia. But if you have time on your hands for an 81 minute camp-fest with subpar actors...Give it a look.

Female centered Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog - without the music
siderite8 June 2016
It was quite fun, but also quite predictable. Being original wasn't really the point, though. It was a feel-good superhero buddy movie with cute girls fighting against supervillains and commercialism - although they only win against one. Anyway...

The acting was OK, the script was simple but to the point, the humor was average towards good, the girls were nice. If you want to have some easy fun, this is the thing for you. It reminded me heavily on Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, but thankfully without any musical pieces. Alas, not as funny either.

What you also need to understand is that it is marketed as an eight episode miniseries, but actually it's 1 hour 21 minutes long in total, so if you watch it back to back it's barely a feature movie.

Bottom line: fun, but unremarkable.

See, I Told You it Would Be Funny
bemyfriend-401845 February 2022
Very funny movie. Loads of laughs. Seen on Redbox, the streaming site; for free. Usually I mention that last. But this presents a great opportunity, to see this epic stuff for FREE! Of course, you must see some commercials for that privilege. But the commercials themselves are funny. And not the trying-too-hard-to-be-funny, like the commercial for Ladder Life Insurance. No, these commercials are REALLY funny! So, the actresses began as self-promoters on YouTube? Wow, they really came a long way! And the jokes are really funny! I think they hired a professional comedy writer, to write the script. The guy who used to write for Jerry Lewis, they kept his brain in a machine. It kept working; and so did he, (the writer) writing comedy! They could have cloned him, but instead, they mapped his thought process, and created an AI. The brain was pissed that they shut it off. But they didn't need it anymore.

Funnier than I expected

Warning: Spoilers
This actually made me laugh a couple of times. Not that it's any great work of art, but it has some pretty funny sight gags that they actually play down very well. (The hole in Vaunt's chalk line) Definitely not perfect - the science nerd guy has zero personality, and some of the dialogue... well... But it also knows what it is. I can appreciate that.

Not a complete waste of time, which in some ways, I think is what they were hoping for.

Funny From Beginning To End
michael-chesser-906-65460523 December 2018
I watched the original show in the 1970s - and I discovered this when looking-up the original online. The trailer looked funny, so I ordered the DVD immediately. The movie does not disappoint. I rarely laugh out loud (or sit through an entire movie for that matter). This was great: funny, clever, goofy ... I wouldn't mind seeing more, but they'd have to step carefully - this first effort is too good to be dragged-down by a mediocre sequel.

It's not fake. It's just not real.
nogodnomasters27 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Our two super heroes from Ohio with no super powers disarm a criminal and the video goes viral. They are picked up by Hollywood for a superhero contract and encounter new challenges as life tries to separate our twosome. The film had me hooked in the first five minutes with fresh quirky humor. For those who like off beat humor, this one has it as it satirizes society and the super hero craze.

The one liners are worth the view.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity

Fun...
sfinancing9 December 2018
...in a 60's Batman, The Tick, Kick-ass kinda way.

Bad(ish) first in this one:

Fairly predictable plot and scripting.

The rest:

Acting from the mostly unknown(to me at least) cast was well done and enjoyable.

Directing...this one moved along nicely, no real slow spots.

Production values were good.

Special effects were a nice surprise, neither overdone nor cheesy.

Overall not a bad way to spend a few hours on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

One of the best super hero movies I've ever seen
casablancavic15 September 2018
While this is not Superman or Batman or Spiderman, this is actually on many levels a far better movie than any of those.

I would love to see this as a regular series on television.

Filmed in Vancouver - I never heard of it, but the entire movie was enjoyable - with leads and supporting cast who knew what they were doing and knew how to bring those characters to life.

While it may not be a blockbuster - it certainly is an good movie on so many levels...and that is even more impressive.

Now I have to see what else those two girls have done.

They seemed to work so well together - and that is where the true talent shines.

Awesome movie - and the fact that I saw it for free was even better.

Cheesy Mindless Fun
tgbldkam29 June 2020
I remember watching the TV show back in the late 70'.s. As a child I enjoyed it as an adult I realized it didn't take much to amuse me. That being said, there are reviews that criticize the show's production values and I get the impression that some were looking for a meaningfully thought provoking show. Nope, you will not find it here. Remember this show was based on a 1970's campy children's show by the Kroft brothers. The Kroft brothers are known to create campy and trippy TV shows.

I found the show on Tubi TV and I went into it expecting campy cheesy goofiness. I was not disappointed. I love the innocent goodness of the main characters and the overzealous traitorous agent.

If you are looking for a movie that you can sit back and not think for hour and a half this is for you.

However I do wish Deidra Hall(the original Electra Woman) made a cameo appearance.

Brilliant as Parody of Superheroes, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, and Fun Adventure Romp
bupdaddy8 October 2020
I'd give this 11 stars if I could, because it measures up to "Spinal Tap" as a parody of superhero stories, and a satisfying story on its own.

Really funny send-up of an obscure 70's crimefighting duo!
ranwulfs7 April 2021
I remember watching "The Krofft Supershow" Saturday mornings in the mid-70s when I was a kid. "Dr. Shrinker," "Wonderbug," and "Electra Woman & Dyna Girl" were my favorites, although even as a 10 year old in the days before cable I knew it was all 3rd rate crap. But it was *fun* 3rd rate crap! How cool to see Hannah Hart & Grace Helbig bring back two such obscure characters and set them as modern-day superheroes who are barely scraping by in the Ohio suburbs! Everything about this movie is tongue in cheek, and done with a broad wink at the audience. The dialogue is absolutely loaded with great lines and asides, and even though I've seen it 3 times now, I still laugh all the way through it! I recommend it to anyone in the mood for off-beat humor that pokes fun at the current, über-popular superhero genre!

it was a nice movie
carboneeliot12 June 2016
it was a awesome movie in a different kind of a style of super hero movie and it was a fun watching it . Normally you would give credits if this movie had a trailer like other ones , and be a bid more in the surface of other movies . Personally i found it amusing , especially Hanna Hart , a cute girl and nice face of the movie .Grace Helbig is also nice . after all i would like i in my opinion would recommend watching it. At least it has a interesting plot from other movies. And different from the other movies that we are used to see they had funny super powers , and being honestly i would like to see a sequel ,or maybe also in TV series these two girls .
