The Best Naruto Movie by a Long Shot
saikatsamanta8 October 2020
Naruto wil always be the anime thats closest to my heart. I grew up with these characters and to see them grown & nurture the next generation is amazing. But I have never been fond of Naruto movies, they were always very generic. But this one really surprised me, with its animation quality, Complex relationship between Naruto & his son, & that Sick Battle in the End. Naruto fans should definitely watch it.

Tons of new characters, great action sequences ,stunning artstyle and getting to see growth version of Naruto's classmates. All of this are just too short for 1.30 minutes.

A Naruto fans dream full of their favourite characters, awesome fights and fantastic animation
lilmatieboy18 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Boruto: Naruto the Movie was released in Australian theatres for a limited time thanks to Madman Entertainment's distribution. Written and supervised by Naruto series creator, Masashi Kishimoto, Boruto: Naruto the Movie follows (you guessed it) Boruto Uzumaki, the son of main series protagonist Naruto who is now Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village which has gotten some upgrades when it comes to technology. The main plot of the film is the broken father and son relationship between Boruto and Naruto, and thankfully, Kishimoto has written a touching story that'll have Naruto fans smiling in joy.

There are A LOT of characters in this film, any character who you remember in the Naruto series is grown up now and most likely has a kid in this film. One character who particularly stands out in this film is Sasuke (who was mostly missing in the previous film The Last: Naruto the Movie) and it's great to see him. Sasuke is Boruto's teacher in this film and there's something very poetic about a character teaching the son of his rival, I don't know why but I find that really intriguing and fans will probably love the idea of that.

Boruto himself is a surprisingly relatable character. He's a kid with daddy issues which is very common among children his age. I'd even go as far as saying that I like Boruto more than Naruto when he was a kid, he's a very likable character. All the other kid characters are pretty cool as well such as Sarada, Sasuke and Sakura's daughter. She's smart, feisty and very strict which is actually pretty funny to watch when her and Boruto are arguing with each other.

Naruto himself is also pretty interesting to watch. It's really cool to see how much the role of Hokage can affect someone's life. You watch him in two perspectives, one is the Naruto you remember prior to the events of this film and the other is from Boruto's perspective where he's just seen as someone who has no time and love for his family. Both kind of clash and in the end there is a sweet resolution that can make Naruto fans shed tears of happiness. It's really nice to see the character portrayed how he is in this film.

There is a glaringly poor character in this film and that's the villain. It is, yet again, someone trying to fulfill Kaguya's plan and is the most forgetful Naruto villain you can ever come across. He is uninteresting, tedious and a very big negative on the film. Even The Last: Naruto the Movie had a better villain, but hey, at least the villain wasn't befriended this time around.

Animation wise, this movie is gorgeous. It is an absolute spectacle during its action scenes, Naruto has never looked this good. The climax especially is some of the best action and animation to ever grace this series, it will indeed give you chills purely because it looks so great. The Leaf village looks alive and colourful and it's cool seeing all this new tech and cities surrounding the area, although it is strange that the last time we saw this place it was just a village with barely any modern buildings and technology in it.

The film's soundtrack could have been better, there are times where it tracks are out of place and the sound design of the film can be a bit too loud on the ears. The film's first half is also pretty slow because it tries to explain who these characters are, where everyone is at, how are people doing and what this terrible villain is up to. Also, the film wasn't as funny as I thought it was going to be. Some jokes didn't hit me and I found The Last to be a funnier movie overall.

In the end, Boruto: Naruto the Movie is a great epilogue to a series with a huge fan base. It has incredible animation, great fights, cool characters and a touching father-son story. It's just a shame that the villain is, yet again, very uninteresting. Other than that, Naruto fans will be pleased that this send off is a great one.

Excellent Movie
Jsam65410 October 2015
Gone are the college days where I had time for anime. However, made time today with some friends to watch the limited release of Boruto: Naruto the Movie, and am so glad I did!

Excellent tribute to an anime that captivated so many of us! Started a bit slow, but of course eventually picked up. One of the best Naruto movies without a doubt! Hope that the creators of the original Naruto series continue to develop future adaptations, and that we don't lose this enjoyable anime.

The quality of animation has improved so much, it is mind-boggling. Two thumbs up and ten stars for sure!

Moving, funny, and nostalgic
taitr10 October 2015
This movie is the close to it all Kishimoto wanted and he wrote it beautifully. He has a knack for that, and for hitting what I feel are the most important emotional points of a story. The characters are consistent and complex, Sasuke has redeemed himself, everyone has a sense of new wisdom to them, and there are several perfect lines of advice for teaching/parenting which is a strong theme in the series. Beautiful, inspiring, and entertaining film, with more than a little homage paid to notable fights and characters. Must see for anyone who has read and/or watched the series, and if you haven't, please give it a try, at least so you can understand the meaning behind what is happening in the film. You will appreciate it so much when you do. Enjoy!

Let's be honest every naruto movie has been shoddy at best.
oaksquared22 January 2016
Personally I love the Naruto series, but was always disappointed by the movies. This one however is by far the greatest anime movie I've ever seen before by far. I have never cried during a Naruto scene before, but this one brought me to tears and is likely to be one of the only movies to ever get me to that level emotionally. Well crafted battle scenes, theme, and overall story. P.S. keep watching after the credits as there is an extra scene. Can't wait to see the next series in the naruto franchise because if it'still anything like this movie it will definitely be well worth the wait. Definitely buying this movie on bluray.

Nostagia hits hard
De_Sam16 January 2016
The animation is spotty at times; it is evident that the greatest amount of effort was spent on the opening and ending fight sequences, leaving all scenes in between at a lower level of quality.

Furthermore the adaptation of the novel had caused a loss of nuance, making this inferior to the original source. Technology was not really (there were instances that it was) present in Kishimoto's original manga, now that it is he uses a popular motive of the Japanese New Wave, namely the idea that technology is taking over the life of man and this should be adverted as it is a regression. It comes over rather forced and blatant in the film as in the novel.

Yet, despite these flaws I cannot help but like this film; nostalgia hits, hard. I have grown up with the Naruto series and this is the end point. If nothing else, it really works as a closer, making me want to read it all again, which I probably will in the future.

Spoiler Free: A surprisingly gigantic success that shouldn't have been possible!
aidanpscott14 November 2015
Let me first say that I'm not particularly a fan of anime: I like Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Death Note for a while, but beyond that, never much else. Also, I hate Anime Movies with a passion (unless it's Spirited Away and Mononoki) and I went to see this movie because a friend got me a ticket... That's all. This is by far the best Anime movie I've ever seen in my life! I hate pretty much all the Naruto movies, except for The Last Movie (It's was okay, IMP). Words cannot describe it! How does a show that should have been stretch to it's limit suddenly start a new series and not screw it up in any way! This new era in the Naruto franchise should have been a bomb, but I believe this new series may have potential to be better than even the original two Naruto series. The story is great, and completely different from how anyone... ANYONE thought it would be (Naruto's son wants to be Hokage... Yadidadeda... Not at all!) and it wasn't! This is a new story that breaths incredible life into the series nobody had seen since the first time it appeared on Anime! I'm serious, this is from a guy who's not a big anime guy! The character are great (Boruto becomes great towards the end, but that's meant to be the case. He sucks at the beginning), some old characters make great entrances and even see some action, the ending is great, the chemistry between the new characters and the old is incredible and very relatable, Sasuke's character is better than EVER (Until now, I never liked Sasuke, but now I love him!!!!). It starts off strong, has really good drama, the pacing is masterful, soundtrack is well-built and put together, the humor is done very well, and the best part is YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW A THING ABOUT THE ORIGINAL NARUTO TO LOVE IT! I'm serious! In fact, I would go as far to say that this movie, Boruto: The Movie, is the best starting point for newbies! This movie should have been average at best... A disappointment to the fans, and I have never been more into anime in my life! The only thing I didn't like about it was the "Mini-Scroll Gauntlet" during the Chunin exams to not spoil it. Those who saw it and understand what it means will surely agree with me. It also kinda feels like the Legend of Korea, when technology is introduced to the world, but that's not necessarily a bad thing (It can be one however in the future), every moment is used (never wasted), and it never gets boring! There isn't ever a forced moment (which is huge for me because, even though I like Naruto a lot, there are a lot of really forced moments, especially with the terrible English voice acting, which I hate with an utmost and absolute passion!) I also would have wanted a mini-anime to come out soon after because now I'm on my computer trying to figure out when the next one's come out. I here there's an excellent Manga that's the prequel to the movie, but I never read the Manga. Perhaps, I will this time considering how good this movie was. One of the best movies of the year, easily, along side (in my opinion) The Martian, Sicario, Ant-Man, Straight Outta Compton, Bridge of Spies, and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Seriously, go see this movie! You'll be surprised!

Like a preview for an anime
jaysshukla20 September 2021
At least, you wouldn't be able to criticize this movie like how you would end up criticizing the anime. Firstly, this came even before the manga. You are going to follow the Chunin exam arc in just 2 hours. I mean for a change, its not 20 chapters or 20 episodes long. Let's appreciate that the plot has been set up beautifully and totally matches with the current era in the Narutoverse. Otherwise, the Shippuden's ending was almost perfect. It is also amazing that in just 2 hours, we still get enough idea about how the new generation characters are. Orginal Naruto fans and Shippuden fans too would enjoy this movie as their heroes Naruto and Sasuke do get an opportunity and do manage to shine in the battle. No doubt that the battle has been choreographed better in the anime version but it still looks perfect for a movie version.

Now that it is a fact that while adapting this movie both the manga and the anime added few more details or elements to the plot, I think it is fairer to treat this movie as a preview. Surely, that is bound to give a sense of something being incomplete but that doesn't mean you wouldn't be able to enjoy this.

I believe this should be watched before you start following the manga or the anime version.

Epic movie, Boruto taking forward Naruto's legacy!
r-radhe7914 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Very decent animation and play! I desperately wish this isn't last Naruto movie! Must watch for Naruto fans! I loved how Naruto and Sasuke played along in this movie. Although the Villain was powerful but I guess they could've shown more of his moves. In Naruto Shippuden, Kaguya lasted for so many episodes and Shinobi world was on the edge of getting doomed. In this movie, threat to the shinobi world has not been shown clearly. Remember to sit through the credits, since the parents of Mitsuki, the mysterious shinobi in the same group as Boruto, is revealed at the very end. The last scene had the entire audience cheering in absolute shock! Make sure to stay in your seats!

Son of a Naruto!
TheOneThatYouWanted19 November 2016
I'm a little surprised this was as good as it was. I guess they had to make it a good Naruto movie because the series is ending and they want people to give Baruto a chance. Whatever, jury is still out on if I'm going to watch Baruto, all signs point to "no" right now. Anyway, this film is about Naruto's son, Baruto and this is pretty much a rehashing of Naruto seasons 2 and 3. It is worth watching. Good action, animation and whatever. But mostly this is worth watching just to see Naruto and his friends interact as adults. Awww, seeing Naruto as a grownup brings a tear to my eye. Not really but whatever. It is better than your average manga movie spin off or whatever.

Naruto has been reduced to waste.
jonathan1995-746-9269396 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is HEAVILY focused on how Boruto hates his dad for not being around and how he gets to understand/forgive his dad in the end in terms of a bad event happening to the village. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this.

There wasn't enough focus on learning to know what everyone has become now. Nothing displaying the bonds between the other characters. Not even between Sasuke and Sakura. And I like how they portray Boruto as some kind of mechanical fighter with a wrench and then there isn't ANYTHING related to that in the movie. In other words he doesn't have a personal fighting style, it's just an uninteresting copy of Naruto.

Otherwise the animation was interesting, you get to see how the village has developed since you last saw it. And you get to see how Boruto acts emotionally under certain circumstances which gives you a glint of his personality.

Awesome as Ever
singhsubhamsks26 March 2017
I believed "The Last" will be the last movie but they made another one,and its so emotional to see all the characters grown-up in live action with their kids. The end credit scene actually burst me out of laughter. Seeing how Boruto made Sasuke as the role model was expected at the end and I was so happy to listen that at the end of the movie

Awesome but there are a bits of EH
jmsntillan-1499312 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I'll admit it Naruto was a Bad father he didn't event went to the important occasions that his family has, he clearly stated to Hinata from the The Last that she'll be his first priority from now on then he became Hokage, Yes we understand that it is his dream to be a Hokage but he doesn't have to shoulder all the duties making clones to fix all the stuff, Naruto cares but he doesn't know how to show it i think he forgot to show affection already due to the stress that he is dealing with, you'll understand once you've watched it you'll notice it. Now for Boruto he was a neglected child, before he wasn't he misses his father a lot because their family bond too much and he feels bad for his mom Hinata and his baby sister Himawari who doesn't have time for them, He really is kind hearted and very angry at his Dad. He just doesn't want to be neglected, Two sides are correct and we can't side which one of them. Now for Sasuke oh boy he redeemed himself, Went soul searching and found his answer being the new Jiraya, finding intel to know if the 5 nations is still safe after the War with Kaguya and found one, he teach-ed Boruto as well cause he knows what Boruto feel when he was young. Naruto = Itachi, Boruto = Sasuke. One thing i noticed is that i can't feel the Family Love, Naruto and Hinata only talked once, Sasuke and Sakura didn't even talk, no affection (i think Kishimoto is bad at writing this kind of stuff) The fight scenes now, oh i love it Less Jutsu, MORE Taijutsu, They know that it was a follower of Kaguya, Once Sasuke knew the weakness He and Naruto goes H.A.M i don't wanna spoil more, i was just hoping that it would be a 2 hr movie to broaden up what happened after they'll get together, etc. it was a bit rushed but i'll feel bad for the Animators who really worked hard, the animation is very very good.

Continuation of an Iconic Legacy with New Adventures and Heartfelt Themes
Mysterygeneration11 January 2024
The ultimate tale in the Naruto universe has finally been revealed, following more than ten years of success in the US and five more in Japan.

The emotional tension between father and son Boruto and Naruto is the main theme of the film. Because Naruto can't spend time with his kid, Boruto becomes enraged and hateful of his father for what he has done. Even though he doesn't always follow shinobi protocol, Boruto is able to hold his father's attention despite his weak will. Given that Sasuke serves as Boruto's mentor for a large chunk of the movie, this is consistent with his past. Though the topic is not further explored in the movie, Boruto believes Sasuke can fill the hole left by his father's lackluster presence. The film's strongest aspect is Boruto's character's entire arc, which comes to a satisfying climax in the last act.

Rant about bad parenting in Boruto
caitingting201425 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is less of a review, and more of a rant about bad parenting in Boruto (Hinata and Naruto).

First of all, Hinata. What can I say about her? Nothing. And that is bad enough. She has always been around, and she herself is a strong shinobi. However the only thing we see her do is doing housework and trying to calm people down/comfort people ineffectively. For example, when Boruto was really mad about Naruto, where is core issue is that Naruto cares more about his work than his family, Hinana simply said that Naruto had to protect and care for the entire village. This is not an invalid argument, but it only addes fuel to the fire. What any more responsible parent would have done is at least admit that Naruto is paritially wrong for not being there for the family. However explain in depth the cause of him being so obsessed with his work/what would be the consequence of not tending to the work. Finally discuss how to compromise and resolve the issue, and maybe force Naruto to come home and discuss this when he is a little bit free (like when he had time to train Boruto). No, she just said something that can convince no one. Moreover, when Boruto cheated on the exam, and Himawari asked her what is happening to Boruto, she simply hugged her. What does that even mean? How does that answer Himawari's question of this shocking scene? No, it doesn't. It temporarily solves the issue, since Himawari stopped questioning. However, her brother just got disqualified from an important exam and she did not get any answer about why. How would that impact her view of adults/shinobi education system? This would make a great educational moment by explaining that Boruto has cheated, the purpose of the chunin exam, and cheating with the device is not acceptable. But no, she did not explain, she did not attempt to educate her kids. No wonder Boruto turns out such a rebellious brat. Why listen to the adults when there seems to be no reason to believe?

Secondly, Naruto. As a workaholic myself I can relate to his problems with long working hours. Many people have also noted that this is a common issue. However it seems like his time with his family lacks both quantity and quality. What's up with the formality "Seventh Hokage", when it doesn't seem as if former Hokages have demanded such a title from their subordinates? (For example Kakashi told every one to drop the "lord", and both fifth & third allowed Naruto to called them old granny/grandpa ) I get that he wants to be impartial, but why not go with just Naruto, and let everyone do that? It just seems so cold to do that to your kid, and further the gap between them. Same thing with the email and shallow clone. As a Shinobi who has always given his all to anything: training, relationship, etc, now he is the one who is half hearted dedicated to his family. It is utterly understandable why Boruto thinks that Naruto views work more important than his family, since I cannot imagine Naruto having such a flippant attitude towards work. Moreover, again we see the "telling not convincing" problem in Naruto, as we see in Hinata. When Boruto taunted his skills in front of Naruto, he immediately started scolding Konohamaru while stating that teamwork is more important than individual skills. However he did not elaborate on this claim. Why believe him? Is he Jesus? Plus if he has paid any attention to Boruto he would have realized Boruto's desperate need for his approval, and would have complimented Boruto for his achievements before the lecture on teamwork. This would make Boruto in a calmer position and more willing to listen to him. Not doing any of this shows Naruto's lack of dedication to educating his son. Again I can hardly Naruto would use this kind of half-assed talk no juzi when he is at work. (In fact one of his best talent before becoming Hokage is talk no juzi, what happened? )

The fact that this kind of half hearted poor parenting exists in real life makes it all the more relatable and enraging.

Great movie despite a ridiculous final act.
KADC20 January 2020
After the terrible "The Last", my expectations for "Boruto" were very low, but I was pleasantly surprised with superior animation, interesting characters, and an excellent story ...until the final act when they must have thought this was Dragon Ball Z movie complete with stronger power ups after being weakened when easily defeated before and using what was clearly a spirit bomb. The nonsensical ending seemed out of place given how well crafted the rest of the movie was but, unfortunately, poorly constructed finales are all too common for animé series feature films.

Despite the disappointing last 10 or 15 minutes, the rest of "Boruto" was so genuinely good that the movie as a whole wasn't ruined. This is a film that both Naruto fans and newcomers alike will enjoy.

The best of all the best.
liezle-614797 May 2018
The next storyline for NARUTO is now ongoing series BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS - this series is the story of Naruto's son Boruto whereas he always tend to fight the attention of this father ( NARUTO) whose always busy with his career as his dream come true as the HOKAGE OF KONOHAGURE. The story of Boruto is likewise the same as Naruto when he was captured to Infinite Tsukoyomi whereas his both parents are alive and Minato Namikaze the Fourth Hokage is busy being a Hokage and Naruto was always compared to his father and fighting for himself to be acknowledge by anyone not as just Hokage's son but as Naruto himself. This just reminds me of how Naruto and Boruto feels the same way on getting attention to the one they loved most. I also love Himawari so much. The way he defeated his father for the '' locked on'' fight with Boruto..Oh Himawari so cute and adorable . And I want to see more on Naruto and Boruto scene where they will bond to each other soon. ANd Naruto to Hinata scene too..as well as the Naruto gang. Miss them so much to bond with.

Now signing off..Love Naruto so much..his my childhood sweetheart.

Stupid movie
buzaiqizhong23 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I thought that The Last was really the last disastrous blow to Naruto's downfall, yet this is even worse.

The villain was with the ultimate eye power of the rinnegan, yet he couldn't sustain the tiny rasengan Bolt threw at him because he wasn't aware of it? Rinnegan was supposed to absorb ninjutsu AUTOMATICALLY, man! And from when did Bolt have the time-space ninjutsu, as he could transfer the rasengan to another space and make it appear again? From what I remember in the manga, only Kamui (Obito's sharingan power) could have done that, and Bolt didn't even have the sharingan, lol.

The father-and-son tension was terrible too, Bolt was angry because his father was busy protecting the village? Most children have working parents who couldn't be home till evening too, not to mention Naruto seemed to send his clones home often, so that kind of tension is too forced and ridiculous. On the other hand, Naruto, who always craved for family and love and dreamed of become Hokage, behaved like he's bored the hell out of it with both his family and his job, feels like just being sold by Kishimoto to milk the series a bit longer.

In short, if The Last destroyed all bonds Naruto treasured to forcefully insert an useless-but-with-boobs Hinata into his life, Boruto the movie successfully poops on the rest of the logic on ninjutsu and techniques that's been left on the series.

A pleasant surprise for a quitting reader.
plhawking17 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It's been a long time since I've stopped reading Naruto, around the shinobi war but I knew some of the outcomes of the manga though : Naruto and Hinata ended up together and had children, obviously. Sasuke and Sakura as well. Some characters I knew had died, some others I didn't. Still, if you come back after some years, it's okay, the movie is pretty good at welcoming long time fan and newcomer. And the people in between.

As for the movie itself the animation and fight scenes are gorgeous, you'd expect that much. Character wise, it does quite a good job at depicting Naruto as the Hokage but mostly as an adult and parent. Being, the most powerful ninja in the world has made him into a responsible man burdened by his tasks. As a result, the boy once a ball of goofiness and exuberance has become a stranger to his own family and son. Naruto grew up, and it ain't pretty.

In a sweet mise en abime, Boruto also wants to be acknowledged, by his father. Naruto who during his youth wanted the whole world to notice him, is now the one incapable of showing his feelings to his son.

The irony being that Sasuke, aka Brooding/Cool Ninja, seems to be the most capable father and mentor. A shame we didn't get to see more of Sakura, the forever left behind member of Team 7.

The movie spends a long time building its two main characters so the ending feels a tad rushed. Of course, things unfold nicely for the Uzumaki men. In a big fight against an okay villain whose motivations are textbook villain.

To conclude, it felt so nostalgic diving in this world again. Things have changed but a lot have stayed the same. The excitement was as high as when I read and watched Naruto for the first time. It made me want to go back and finish what I gave up some years ago.

Deeply moving and fantastic!
vina_melody15 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This movie sums up the legacy of Naruto very well! I enjoy watching it from the first till the very last minute plus credits and the cliffhanger of Mitsuki's parent after that. Everyone was laughing on that!

The plot and scenes are arranged beautifully that I feel no time is wasted. Graphics animations and music soundtrack also have amazing effects!

Even if you don't read the Japanese manga or previous movie, you can tell that the essence of story about a boy who's longing for a father's acceptance but ended up overwhelmed by the fact that Boruto's father (Naruto) has overcame so much weaknesses that viewers should know how did he do that. On the sideline, we also see how Naruto's best friends like Sasuke, Shikamaru and the Gokages teaming up in ways we've never seen before as the new united generation. The scenes where Naruto and Sasuke fighting Kinshiki are awesome, beat my expectation!

Movie is about 90% close to the novel which is excellent. Some scenes like Sakura & Temari, Chunnin Exams, flashback on Naruto learning Rasengan with Jiraiya, Neji's death really brings fond of memories of Naruto stories.

The movie could've been a little better with deeper interaction between Naruto, Hinata and Himawari, as well as Konohamaru and Kakashi. I hope this is not the last from either Naruto or Boruto.

Must watch for anyone who has liked Naruto. The movie is truly the pinnacle of Masashi Kishimoto's work. Made me feel sad when it ended because this is the end of an outstanding series. Can't express sufficiently how sad a true fan will feel after the movie ends when it strikes him/her that this is the end. As far as the story of the movie is concerned it is an outstanding one that will intrigue the viewer and the only negative would be that the movie should be much longer considering this is the last one. Just loved it and hope that Kishimoto changes his decision and writes another Naruto series. Enjoy the movie Dattebayo.
