Slow, pretentious, boring
jeffdstockton16 June 2021
Unfortunately, what might be an interesting story is told in a dreadfully slow and pretentious - and unexpectedly boring - manner. It seems most likely that the filmmaker(s) have no experience in the restaurant industry, thus they struggled to construct a story told coherently and at a reasonable pace, and which can hold interest over the length of their effort.

They failed.

amateur camera work, meandering storyline

Camera work is very jerky and shaky, totally takes you out of the aesthetic experience expected of a food-related documentary (think: Jiro Dreams of Sushi or the Chef's Table series). The interviews with random people associated with the restaurant seems haphazard and shallow. I'm a big fan of Rene but I don't think this documentary flatters him (e.g. There are many long stretches filmed of Rene "yelling" at his staff without any context).
