Extremely low budget slasher strikes again!
Patient44425 November 2017
2 stars for this movie! Without wasting precious time or words, lets dig in: actors did a horrible work as they are all amateurs. Laughable acting from start to finish. The dialogue is not the worst out there, someone did take his work serious, but made sure that it covered all the stereotypical characters, because they weren't bad enough, it had to accentuate their pain!

We have something of a camera work but not quite, no special effects whatsoever, completely disbelievable deaths, a little blood and no nudity. There is a plot to all of this, I know, I was surprised as well, it is your usual trapped in a house with a killer horror, but it felt over stretched. As the action itself is missing for most part of the movie, we got an incredible detailed and long character development, so we know for who to root and who to expect to be the first to be gone.

Anyway, sadly, this ain't something to be recommended. You should clearly stay away from this one. Krampus: The Reckoning , got 3 stars from me! It is actually half of step higher. You have been warned!

Cheers!

Not what I was expecting at all.I struggle to find anything positive to say about this movie. There were some cute female characters, but even the sex scene was boring(and without nudity). Not scary or suspenseful.Don't waste your time.

Deadly Christmas
TheLittleSongbird28 July 2018
'Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride' drew me into seeing it, with a cool poster/cover, an intriguing if not particularly original premise and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive as well as the low rating and poor reviews.

It is sadly however yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws those films have are present here, that to me was incredibly disappointing considering its potential which it doesn't do anywhere near enough with. 'Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride' is terrible, with a plethora of enormous problems. Low budget Krampus films have not fared well and 'Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride' is one of the worst examples. There is next to nothing to recommend.

Lets start with the sole positive. The setting is atmospheric and spooky.

Unfortunately, it is not done justice by the rather direct to video schlocky way it's shot and edited and the drab colour palette, so much so it was hard to appreciate it, it was very clear that the film was made in a rush with no care or enthusiasm. In particular, the camera work was a nauseous assault on the eyes with its excessive amateurish-ness.

Going on further to the negatives, the story does feel paper thin, disjointed and over-stretched and some of it feels vague, under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less scary. Too many characters are too sketchy and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates.

Making the film feel bland and forgettable with not enough heart put into The sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions) and it's best not mentioning the uniformly lumbering and histrionic acting that shows a huge indifference to the situation and what is going on and extremely awkward prolonged pauses.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling, with lots of clichés, lots of unintentional humour that makes some of the film play like a really bad spoof and no depth whatsoever, while the pace goes to a standstill very quickly and drags on forever with very little going on worth caring about and useless padding, never recovering. The minimal action wouldn't have mattered so much if the character development was present or engaging, instead not enough is learnt about the characters, the exposition is too heavily relied upon and is neither interesting or illuminating, actually dragging things down. Found too many of the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the supposedly creepy atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Would not have minded the lack of originality (the film is extremely derivative and in a dumbed and watered down way) if the story and atmosphere were at least alright in execution, in reality they were both very poorly done.

A lot of 'Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride' has underdeveloped plot elements and often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you jump or shocked are far from creative or scary and are pretty tame. The ending didn't satisfy and felt anaemic and the whole thing felt like an over-stretched-to-beyond-breaking-point short film.

There is not enough threat, and what there is of it tends to be used poorly, is just as poorly designed and so laughably done it doesn't frighten at all. The film is completely unimaginative and more odd than creepy, completely failing to show any sense of horror or creativity. Everything here is neither creative, suspenseful or nail-biting. Some badly sagging momentum too. The direction is leaden and like their heart was not in it or ill at ease, with the chemistry between the characters and actors coming over as constantly random and aggressive with the subtlety of an axe. The Christmas spirit is completely lost underneath all the gratuity, dreariness and mean-spiritedness and the deaths are neither creative or scary with a complete lack of suspense or sense of horror.

Overall, awful with no redeeming value apart from an element that is difficult to appreciate with it being complemented so badly. 1/10 Bethany Cox

That will get you on the naughty list
nogodnomasters10 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
If you were really into the first Mother Krampus film (and I don't think anyone was) then you will be disappointed to discover this one has nothing to do with the first one. Two strippers, a cross-dresser, and a fourth person on probation take meals to the elderly. One of the elderly has a naughty list...

I am still not sure how we got into a Mother Krampus. All the films have conflicting points of origin except that Krampus is from Germany or Scandinavia. I don't recall the first one that well, but I suspect it was worse than this one. This film was rather boring even with a couple of strippers and a shower scene. Some conversation had a little humor.

Guide: F-word. Sex. No nudity.

Average single watch movie
mlhare29 January 2022
I enjoyed this film. It was nothing special and not one i will watch again but i didnt feel time wasted lol. The only part that really bothered me was the homeless shelter. One the fat girls dirt looked more like smeared make up and not authentic at all and second everyone in the homeless shelter was wearing designer glasses lol. I volunterred in soup kitchens all through my teen years and those people looked nothing like the ones we helped. The fat girls face takes the cake though. Check out the movie just to see it. Totally worth the chuckle.

This was a step in the right direction from the first film but still not good
kevin_robbins22 December 2022
Krampus 2 (2018) is a movie that I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a community center that includes many workers that are required to be there as part of their community service. On Christmas Eve an unexpected guest arrives to determine who is naughty and whom was there for authentic reasons. The punishment for being naughty is this will be their last day at the community center...or any place else alive.

This movie is directed by Eddie Lengyel (The Curse of Lilith Ratchet) and stars KateLynn E. Newberry (Homecoming Revenge), Tiffani Hilton (Whatever it Takes), Robbie Barnes (Whatever it Takes), Roger Conners (Meat) and Daniela Simms (Chosen).

The movie has a fun opening with a great ax kill and some great corresponding sound effects. The kills for this are a step above the original. However, I never like when they have the monster/demon inside a human and a human is doing all the killing for the viewer, it always feels a bit like a copout. The acting, dialogue and scenarios were about equal to the first one, not overly good.

Overall, this was a step in the right direction from the first film but still not good. I would score this a 3.5-4/10 and recommend skipping it.

Refreshing movie with a holiday/horror twist
d_cancelliere11 December 2018
Not sure why there is so many negative reviews. This is a independent movie and people are using a major big budget rating scale. This is a excellent use of budget. The plot is unique and different. Eddie does a great job directing this, so much attention to detail. I would highly recommend this film

Naughty List, aka Slay Bells, aka Lady Krampus, aka Mother Krampus 2.
tankfreak6 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This one was supposed to be released in 2016 initially as Naughty List and later as Lady Krampus, but when it finally got distribution, it was released under the title Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride. It is NOT actually a sequel to Mother Krampus, it is a stand alone movie. And like Mother Krampus, has nothing to do with Krampus. It is queer and fabulous though.

**Brief Synopsis: The movie opens with a few people being hacked up by some axe wielding nutter in a mask on Christmas Eve. The next morning we jump to four girls, well, three girls and a drag queen (or maybe a trans woman?...I'm going with drag queen) who are on probation and have to finish up their community service on Christmas. First they have to help out in a kitchen for the homeless and then deliver meals to the elderly who can't get out on their own. When they come to their last stop (at the house where everyone was murdered the night before) the woman there doesn't seem to know anything about their delivery, but reluctantly invites them in anyway. Of course they soon realize that the woman isn't exactly who she appears to be as she begins getting more frustrated with her naughty visitors.**

As I said, this was originally titled The Naughty List (a much more fitting title), but it's since been retitled and distributed as a sequel to Mother Krampus. Otherwise, they're not connected, although like Mother Krampus it does vaguely use some actual holiday folklore. And I do mean vaguely...very very vaguely. Our Christmas psycho is sort of based on Grýla, an Icelandic giant who punishes bad children during the holidays and then makes a stew out of the naughty kids. But again it's a super vague reference, never actually mentioned in the movie. There's a stew and she gets grumpy about naughty behavior, that's about it.

It's a straight up B slasher horror flick, overflowing with all the usual tropes and ultimately plays out like most punish the naughty Christmas slasher movies. That said, B doesn't automatically mean bad. It gets points for gory deaths, however, I do wish they were more festive. But it has surprisingly good practical effects for the obviously low budget, which I was told was under $2k. Honestly I'm very impressed the filmmakers turned out such a good flick for such a low budget. As with most B movies, the acting could be better, but it could also definitely be worse (and usually is with B holiday horror movies). But I also appreciate that it's one of the few holiday horror movies with an LGBTQ+ character. Co-writer/actor Roger Conners was fabulous as Lady Athena. Overall I think it's a really fun flick and if you like B horror movies, you should give it a shot.

A funny holiday slasher that i enjoyed alot more than i expected that i would
excitedboi24826 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A FEW SPOILERS WITHOUT GIVING TO MUCH AWAY

After reading some of the negative reviews for Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride I understand that it may not be everyone's cup of tea and there are going to be those movie watchers who will dislike it and some who will love it because in all honesty that is usually how it is when it comes to movies and movie fans.

I myself had my doubts at first because sometimes the poster/dvd cover art can be pretty deceiving and it looks fantastic and you think wow they really must have put a lot of money into the film if the poster/cover art can look this amazing and then you get it home and it was a complete mess and so when I first saw the trailer online for this film I was skeptical but I always try to atleast give a movie the chance it is due before completely judging it solely based on a trailer or poster of dvd cover so when I bought the dvd and took it home I wasn't sure exactly what my thoughts about it was going to be right off the bat but I was willing to give it a try regardless and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.

The synopsis for the film is pretty much what we would find in any slasher type horror movie,a group of people being killed off one by one by a killer and of course Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride is just that a slasher movie but not just the typical slasher movie but a Christmas themed slasher movie which I am a huge fan of when it comes to holiday themed horror/slasher films like Black Christmas,Silent Night Deadly Night,To all a Good Night just to name a few so this was one of the main reasons I bought the film.

The story brings a group of young women together during Christmas to finish up their community service for doing some '' naughty '' things that got them all into trouble. The girls first begin helping out at the local homeless shelter before heading off to deliver food to local residents on the list for Christmas dinner and during one of their stops they end up at large home of Mrs.Smith,a strange recluse of a woman who wears Christmas sweaters and makes hot cocoa for her unexpected guests.

And like with any slasher film, one by one the girls and other unfortunate house guests are dispatched by a killer wearing a creepy mask that is stalking the rooms and hallways of the house.

During the movie I found myself laughing and enjoying the humor that was tossed into the film by certain characters which I enjoyed and it really made me like them even more because they weren't dull and let's face it sometimes characters can be really boring and dull in a movie and as in the case of this one not all of the characters were as enjoyable to watch as some of the others were but it's to be expected in any movie you watch. there was some of the character bonds that I liked because it made them feel real like the Big sister/Little sister relationship between Gracie and Victoria. I could feel the protective bond that Gracie had with Victoria concidering that she was older and had more experience in life than the younger Naïve Victoria and wanted to look out for her and that showed in her character as did Victoria when it came to Gracie and wanting to be supportive and comforting to her about her life choices and towards the end of the movie.

I would have liked to have had a little more backstory on the escaped killer and who the person was but it wasn't that big of a deal breaker for me.I did enjoy the ghoulish mask that the killer wore and the wide eyes peeking out of the eye holes and the long hair. I LOVE A CREEPY MASK

I also liked the fact that they kept the killer a real person and you caught the tidbits of the crazy and human side of the person which made them seem real and not some brought back from the dead Freddy or Jason or some type of Michael wanna. Just a simple crazy killer who likes to punish the naughty on the most festive time of the year.

Was there some issues with the movie OF COURSE but in cases of movies where there isn't a really huge budget there will be a few minor problems but nothing that is going to matter to much when it is all said and done. They are just trying to make the best film that they possibly can in hopes that people will enjoy it and honestly that is what any director, writer, producer, actor wants is to just make movies and have a good time doing it and hope that the audiences will enjoy them and Eddie Lengyel and Roger Connors did just that with this fun to watch film.

The directing and writing for this film was fantastic and the filming was great and it had long shots down hallways and staircases and close ups on the nasty kills which is always fun to see on gory wounds.

So with that being said and not to go on and on I myself really enjoyed this movie.i found it to be a fun little holiday slasher which kept me entertained and made me laugh and not be yawning 5 minutes into the start of it and it didn't take itself to seriously but did what it was supposed to do and this is one for my holiday themed horror/slasher collection and will watch it over and over again in the years to come.

Horror Comedy at its best!
mikekolo26 December 2018
This movie has a great twisted mix of horror and comedy...a must in my book! I bought my copy on sale at Walmart and wasn't sure what to expect. It starts off with a lot of quick kills to introduce the mad "Mother" and let you know this is definitely a horror movie. Then we get attached to our main characters...some really cute girls and "Lady Athena".

You kinda feel bad for them since it's Christmas Eve and they have to put in community service hours....and of course that's how they end up at the wrong place at the wrong time. But before they get there, they have a few stops on the way that will spark your interest and one in particular that made me laugh my a.. off! They are forced to sing Christmas songs and when one can't hit the notes, Lady Athena (played by Roger Conners) takes the stage and shows Santa a few dance moves Mrs. Claus might not approve of! Seriously, my favorite part of the movie!

These girls aren't angles and they do get into trouble. You'll have a quite a few scares and quite a few laughs. Suitable for mature family viewing (PG13). For a small budget film, it has an impressive soundtrack, good story with a plot, and great talent...it's just a shame someone HAS to die!

My Review Of "Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride
ASouthernHorrorFan4 August 2018
"Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride" plays on old world legend of Christmas witch, Gryla in Iceland (many cultures have a story). The movie does a great job of putting you in that all-to-familiar Holiday spirit, rife with bloody horror. The set up is classic. All the Christmas horror movie tropes are present, and where a lot of films throw everything in the movie for the sake of it, "Mother Krampus 2" does a great job of keeping continuity and reason in the use of these concepts. The direction, and choices taken to bring this tale to life make sense and only add to the entertainment value.

The cast are all a step above your basic, low budget options. The characters, though super cliche, are relatable and fun to watch. A few performances really stand out. "Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride" only has one real flaw and that is the mild lag in the mid-section of the move. If you don't count the fact that a 30 minute charity trip has a cast of characters all but moving into the scene of the crime- I've done something similar with weed dealers and apartment complex neighbors in the past -so totally plausible premise.

The real winner, aside from ultra cool indie status, is the special effects which are all practical and quality work. Kudos to real attention to visceral, giallo aspirations, executed flawlessly. That and the above par cinematography make this one a cut above your standard low-budget affair. Again kudos to creating such good horror classic moments.

Even with the small hang ups that show up in "Mother Krampus 2", overall is is a pretty cool indie horror. Reminiscent of both "Christmas Evil" and more recent indie horror "The Sleeper" , this one does a nice job of honing in on the Holiday Horror appeal, has that classic arthouse vintage slasher vibe, and places it all squarely in the melinnial cross-hairs of future cult status.

Winter murderland.
parry_na8 December 2021
The first few scenes (after the pre-credits bloodbath) didn't inspire a lot of confidence, but I ended up having quite a lot of fun with this. Four young ladies coming to the end of their community service are invited into the house of a seemingly nice old lady who, to be fair, puts up with a lot of nonsense from some of the girls, and, when he arrives uninvited, Paul, the drug dealer.

This is all played knowingly, as if inviting the audience not to worry about the micro budget and just to enjoy the ride.

Co-writer Roger Conners plays one of the main characters with a lot of gusto and camp humour. Also very appealing is Victoria, played by KateLynn E. Newberry. Perhaps Newberry overdoes the wide-eyed cutesy thing but the character is very appealing. In fact, I grew fond of all the characters.

The effects are surprisingly good and gloriously bloody, and various creepy moments remind us that although there are light-hearted moments, this is not a comedy. My score is 7 out of 10.

Out of the ordinary and fun ride
robjaeger-0514527 December 2018
I love the indie horror genre. There is something so raw and entertaining about it to me. Witnessing production companies being creative is always a pleasure. There is also something different about the energy the actors give off on screen...a passion per say that makes viewing this type of film enjoyable. Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride is great time with a lot of unexpected comedic moments delivered brilliantly from its talented cast.

Solid indie seasonal slasher effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder15 December 2019
Going to a secluded woman's house, a group of women on a community service project delivering food to the needy at Christmas find themselves stalked and killed by a mysterious masked killer going around killing everyone around them forces them to dig deep into themselves to escape.

This one wasn't too bad of a slasher. This is where the film really works the best as the straightforward nature of these scenes comes off really well. The overlong prologue that shows the killer hunting down the family in the house in several extended sequences around the property both inside and outside starts this one with some great stalking scenes and brutal encounters on the oblivious family. That carries over into the later half where the switch to more sudden attacks on the girls which manage to utilize the shock really well by having her appear and deliver the killing blow in creative and unique manners. As these encounters provide some fine gore effects for the stellar kills as well as showing off the creepy mask, there's a lot to like here. The other aspect of the film from the great stalking scenes here is allowing the film a fun, wild finale which features a lot of great action. After a great beginning that gives some background to the girls and what's going on, the slow-burgeoning insanity that finally causes her to snap with great attacks in the bedroom where she takes out the horny couple having sex in the house to the other girls' realization that she's been drugged and can't get out of the house. The other victim who discovers it all is given a shorter sequence where it dawns on her what's going on as the couple who left return and discover the carnage which leads into a series of great chases that has a fun energy to it. These elements provide this with enough positives to hold this one up. There are a few issues to be had with the film. The main problem is the somewhat exaggerated running time that drags out the length of this one more than necessary. there' s no reason for the opening slaughter of the family should last nearly fifteen minutes down solely to the tempo of the scenes based on how necessary the order of events is which leaves the pacing as the only culprit for the outcome. As well, the entire time they're off partying at the nightclub has no reason to be there and the entire trip to the store where the car ride there and the shopping montage inside don't need to be shown there which makes this one somewhat longer than it needs to be. The other minor problem is a wholly unsatisfactory finale for a slasher film. The chase with the true final girl is quite lackluster, standing around crying weakly at her friend to help her, whimpering and helplessly waving a pathetic knife at the killer while trying to stop her from approaching her dead friend and not even getting into a skirmish as the reliance on last-second saves from the continuously-returning killer for stingers that grow weaker each time. As well, it chooses them to finally unload the killer's identity and backstory in a throwaway section of dialog from a random character and takes a lot of impact out of the revelation feeling like an afterthought. Otherwise, there's not a lot to dislike with this one.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, a sex scene and drug use.

How to make a great horror film without a million dollar budget.
ronkal-505781 January 2019
Mother Krampus 2 is just another hit movie from writer/ director Eddie Lengyel. I found the writing, acting and cinematography to be very professional. This is a "must see" movie for anyone who appreciates classic horror movies. Mr. Lengyel can make a truly classic horror movie without spending million of dollars on special effects.

For the Black Christmas (1974) fans!!
lylakittie1 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first Mother Krampus was derivative of Nightmare on Elm Street. This one is a fantastic homage to Black Christmas, and is full of Easter eggs for true fans. I won't spoil them, but if you're familiar with the movie, the cast, and the history, it's easy to see that this movie makes a better Black Christmas sequel than the 2019 MMP with the same name. They even replicated the original's cinematography, sound, and editing in places. There are some continuity errors, but nothing that spoils the fun. For a B-movie this deserves a MUCH higher rating; I was hoping for at least a 5/10. 3.1 is downright ignorant. Like I said, if you know anything at all about Black Christmas, you'll see what I mean. 16-60 minute marks are a bit of a slog, but you can get through it.
