"Better Call Saul" ended with the series finale, "Saul Gone." The prequel/sequel series told the story of James McGill and his descent into deceit and criminality. Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman was filled with heartbreak, familial trauma, and many fantastic montages. Interestingly enough, the series finale doesn't just feel like the ending to "Better Call Saul" — it feels like a definitive conclusion to the "Breaking Bad" universe that started in 2008.
"Saul Gone" plays like an episode that knows it will be the last time you see the actors portray these characters on screen, and it doesn't waste any opportunity to remind you of who they are. Throughout 11 seasons of television and one feature-length film, Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, and so many other talented writers and directors created a rich, character-driven world. One that feels like it's come to its natural end with the series finale of "Better Call Saul.

Better Call Saul has ended. A review of the series finale, “Saul Gone,” coming up just as soon as I build a time machine…
“Where do I see it ending? With me on top, like always.” —Saul
James Morgan McGill and Walter White join forces one final time midway through “Saul Gone.” It is a flashback to the two of them hiding out in the vacuum store’s basement circa the “Granite State” episode of Breaking Bad, each of them waiting for Ed to secret them away to their new lives under assumed identities.

Since starting out as a special makeup effects artist on George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead in 1985, Greg Nicotero has not only been a leading pioneer in his field but, during the past decade, has also taken on the roles of executive producer and director on one of the most successful horror TV series of all time, The Walking Dead, along with its spin-offs.
Last year, Nicotero became a showrunner as well, executive producing Creepshow, a six-episode horror anthology series for the Shudder streaming service inspired by the classic 1982 movie written by Stephen King and directed by Romero. In the spirit of the movie, Creepshow’s tone and format echoed that of the iconic EC horror comics that King and Romero honored with their film, with each episode of the show featuring two self-contained short tales.

The Stephen King-inspired anthology series Creepshow has been granted a second season by horror streamer Shudder. While great to hear, this isn’t too surprising, as the show’s been a solid performer for the network, wrapping its first season on Halloween. Overseen by The Walking Dead‘s Greg Nicotero, Creepshow‘s commitment to old-school special effects have made it a treat for Shudder subscribers, with Deadline reporting that roughly half of the platform’s audience have seen at least one episode.
The original George A. Romero-directed Creepshow movie was a labor of love for Romero and King, and while later sequels offered diminishing returns (Creepshow 3 is particularly worth avoiding), its success set up a wave of horror anthologies in the 1980s and 1990s.
Commenting on the impact Creepshow has had on Shudder, the service’s Gm Craig Engler had this to say:

All the way back in 1982, Stephen King and the late great George A. Romero colleborated on the first Creepshow film, an anthology-based homage to the horror comic books of the 1950s. It’s become a cult-classic, a film remembered fondly by most. It is, even all these years later, still a wonderful movie. 2019 sees Creepshow return, but this time as an anthology television show that will air on the horror streaming platform, Shudder. I was immediately excited about this, being a big fan of Creepshow (and Creepshow 2 for that matter), and had an opportunity to check out the very first episode of this brand-spanking-new series.

Giancarlo Esposito, Tobin Bell, Tricia Helfer, and more talk about their Creepshow experiences in this exclusive behind the scenes clip.
When The Walking Dead's Greg Nicotero found out he'd be bringing beloved '80s horror film Creepshow back from the grave, he knew exactly what he had to do.
“I literally texted every single actor I've ever worked with to find out what they're up to,” Nicotero told us earlier this year. “I was like, ‘Come on, this is our chance to do what we always want to do, which is work with our friends, and it's quick.’”
Now, in this exclusive behind the scenes look at the cast of Creepshow from Shudder, we can see the fruits of Nicotero's texting labor. Give it a look below.

Here in Los Angeles, Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights is always a highlight of the haunt season, and for 2019, John Murdy and his tireless team have pulled out all the stops. For this year’s fright-filled festivities, Hhn is delivering up nine brand new mazes, one additional scare zone maze, plus the permanent Walking Dead attraction as well, making 2019 their biggest year to date. There was no Terror Tram for attendees, but considering the amount of walking you have to do throughout the course of the night already (I logged 6.5 miles myself), I was glad that Murdy decided to give fans two additional dedicated mazes in its stead.
As usual, I always recommend those heading to Halloween Horror Nights to head straight down to the Lower Lot first, as those are the mazes that tend to fill up the fastest, and that was definitely the case for this year as well.

Shudder's Creepshow reboot is bringing the '80s horror anthology back to life and the set has the bloodstains to prove it.
On the calendar behind Greg Nicotero’s desk, every day, from Jan. 7, 2019 through to today, March 28, is marked with a red “X.” The lines are big and emphatic, as though the writer put every last bit of his energy into striking them.
“It seems like yesterday was January 7th and now it's the end of March,” Nicotero says, sinking into a chair in front of the calendar. “There's been no time to even pick anything up.”
Production happens in a near constant state on the Creepshow set and the chaos on the cavernous Atlanta soundstage reflects it. Outside of Nicotero’s office, hallways are littered with rubber monsters and gory props. Two lifeless Nazi soldier dolls greet the production staff arriving on set, one bald and scarred,...

Last week, Daily Dead joined a group of journalists and esteemed Creative Director John Murdy for a preview tour of both the Creepshow and Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man mazes, which are set to open on Friday, September 13th (the perfect day!) as part of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights event, which runs through Sunday, November 3rd.
The first maze Murdy took us through was Creepshow, and as a longtime fan of the original film, I couldn’t have been more excited to go see what John and his tireless crew were cooking up for the attraction. Before we began the tour, Murdy discussed the approach of the Creepshow maze, and how integral Greg Nicotero—who is spearheading Shudder’s new Creepshow series this fall—was to helping make sure everything came together.

With the new Creepshow series coming out soon, Universal Studios has decided to include the horror anthology in their lineup of mazes at Halloween Horror Nights this year! The maze will be inspired by George Romero’s original 1982 film along with Shudder’s upcoming new series.
Greg Nicotero, invites Halloween Horror Nights guests to “step into the anthology’s comic book pages to experience five terrible tales of terror guided by The Creep, the skeletal namesake of the comic book.” Nicotero had this to say in a statement:

The upcoming Creepshow series boasts a proverbial “who’s who” of acting talent which includes the likes of Jeffrey Combs, Tobin Bell, David Arquette, Dana Gould, DJ Qualls, Bruce Davison, and original Creepshow star Adrienne Barbeau, to name a few. But one of the cast members recently announced gave this writer quite a thrill: the one and only Giancarlo Esposito.
Esposito was in attendance for the 2019 Comic-Con festivities this past weekend, and while in San Diego, Daily Dead caught up with the longtime actor to discuss his involvement in Creepshow. During the roundtable interview, Esposito chatted about how it was the appeal of reteaming with Greg Nicotero that attracted him to coming aboard the new Creepshow series, and he gave us some insight into his episode’s story and more.
Look for Creepshow to debut on Shudder on September 26th!

One of the many reasons George A. Romero's Creepshow continues to thrill and chill horror fans more than 35 years after its initial release is thanks to the makeup effects by Tom Savini (who also played one of the movie's garbagemen in the memorable wraparound segment). It's fitting, then, that Savini has been announced as the director of one of the episodes of Shudder's new Creepshow series, based on a story by Joe Hill, who played Billy in the film's wraparound segment.
Savini will direct an episode adaptation of Joe Hill's "By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain," working from a screenplay by Jason Ciaramella.

“There wouldn’t be a Creepshow without Tom Savini,” said showrunner Greg Nicotero. “His mark on the horror industry and unflinching approach to special effects make-up did more for the genre than anything since the invention of fake blood. Tom has always been a visionary and his love of cinema and making movies is felt in every frame of his episode.

Horror movie icon Tom Savini recently revealed that he directed an episode of Greg Nicotero’s Creepshow horror anthology series.
During a panel at Monsterpalooza, which I attended last weekend, Savini revealed that he will direct one of the twelve episodes of Shudder’s upcoming series. The episode he helmed is based on Joe Hill’s short story, “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain”, which centers around two friends who unexpectedly find a dead plesiosaur on a beach. He said:
“I just directed an episode of the Creepshow television series. There’s 12 [stories] altogether – each show will have two episodes in it. Mine’s a combination of Stand By Me, The Fog, and Jurassic Park. It’s really something.”
I love that he likens the story to Stand By Me, The Fog, and Jurassic Park. That makes this sound like it’ll be a great episode! Here’s a full...
