Really Cute
lynnchien23 July 2016
I think that this show is really cute, and that the art is well done and successfully looks like Sofia the First. The songs are intriguing. But, if this is supposed to be a show for Disney channel, I don't think it belongs there. Disney channel's targeted viewers are 8-12 and possibly a bit older. This show seems like it is for children 7 and under. This show belongs in Disney Junior, and if it is, then great.

One minor thing about this, though, is that the plot is pretty basic. They need to go deeper with the meaning behind the story. It just doesn't make sense that a girl was stuck in an amulet and wasn't freed until many, many years later. That just doesn't add up.

But altogether, this show seems like a good show for children. Teens and adults might find this a bit boring, though.

Awesome show with beautiful messages
ameryandrada24 July 2020
Firstly, This show is actually good. It's good for children even though it features the traditions and cultures of Latin and Spain. Although it was quite weird because they say Elena is Latin but they say Spanish terms such as "abuela, abuelita, abuelito, abuelo, etc" It's kind of weird. That's the only thing weird about it. Secondly, it features the tradition and culture of our country in the Philippines indirectly but it's somehow similar. Anyway, that's not the point. It promotes how the differences of each country somehow. Thirdly, the story plot is kind of basic and it's pretty cliche although but it has to happen because it's just for kids. But if you are 13 above you might understand the plot of the story and might find it cliche. It just seems the story all over and over. But there's one thing to make a kids story not cliche. The ending should have a plot twist even it if it has a happy ending. Like for example, the end is just the beginning. What if another story with another twisted story coming through except the story is actually kind of good thanks to the good character development. But it would be awesome if something else was added to the story especially the other story plot that happened in the third movie and season. I ain't spoiling but it wasn't cliche and good. Fourth, there were many easter eggs in the story. Also some messages from other disney princesses and I think they asked permit from the writers for it to work but it was quite good. It doesn't really matter since the amulet summoned other princesses in Sofia the First that taught the messages. Who knows? Maybe Elena inherited the stories from all of it and maybe become a really role model princess. All messages from the show reflect on problems to solutions based in real life. Fifth, I like the song numbers lol. They also have good messages and an upbeat beat. Okay, that sounds repetitive but who cares lol. A positive message needs the world right now. Sixth, Elena, Mateo, Gabe, Naomi, and Isa make a good squad they should get one last adventure before the story really ends. ONE BIG ADVENTURE! But it's sad to say that the story is ending in August aww. I wish they could stay longer and have another show. A spin-off maybe but with a more adventurous but less cliche story plot. With complex conflict but not that complex. I just really wish that the story must go on but all stories have a beginning. Although who knows? Maybe the end is just the beginning. Maybe. Hehe. (P.S. a reference from Ever After High hehe)

So that is all. This show will forever be in my heart until the die. Even though i'm now a teenager but who cares this is for all. If there was one word that describes this show it would be "Magnificent"

At first, I saw it as a new princess for new generations and, off course, as demonstration of political correctness.

But, episode by episode, it becomes more.

The cultural references are just inspired used and entire story propose a charming aura to characters and situations.

The educational aspect is not minor and the magic is used in amusing to wise manner.

And, sure, the eulogy to friendship and family can be useful. Short, a nice series.

Great show with positive messages
isisfan-3606410 August 2016
This show features positive messages for young viewers in a great format! The music, dialogue, and characters are easy to enjoy without pandering or being obnoxious. There is plenty of Latin culture, history, and artistry to each episode. The fantasy characters (like the Jaquins) provide the "magic" and imagination that kids expect in Disney fantasy plots. Now that we've watched the first few shows a time or two, Our 5-year- old explains Elana's backstory (being trapped in an amulet, her grandparents and sister being trapped in a painting) to anyone who will listen. Like Disney Princesses Mulan, Merida, and even Sophia, she is not worried about needing to be rescued- she learns lessons and figures things out on her own. Our mixed-race and mixed-heritage (Spanish, Cuban, and Irish) family with kids aged 3-12 loves this show. The adults in our family appreciate the music, cultural references, and even the Spanish words in each episode.

I love this show!!
mwilkins-9618024 October 2017
I am really disappointed in a lot of the reviews I see on this forum about Elena...someone complaining that Elena can "do all these things she shouldn't be able to do." Like fencing, magic, soccer. If the person who wrote the review had even watched that episode, she spent the entire episode being trained in dexterity, agility and speed by the Lt. of the Royal Guard, she was actually quite bad at fencing in the episode, even though her mother, the best fencer in the kingdom had trained her. this is a great show that I will even watch without my 2 year old. Elena is a strong young lady who has to learn to rule her kingdom. Each episode is a learning experience for Elena. She makes a lot of mistakes, but learns with each episode. This is such a great show for kids and most of the music is fantastic. I can pretty much sing every song by heart. This show teaches children how to be responsible and to be true to their hearts despite what others think.

Enjoyable for all Ages
CaraMSchec12 December 2016
so let me start out that I'm a 34 year old Disney fan with no children. I watch this show because I enjoy it and Sofia the First as lighthearted shows that bring me Disney Magic more often then new Disney movies come out.

I've read the other 4 review of this show, written when very few of the episodes where out and I feel that I can expand on what they have said.

Firs off, yes this show is a Spin Off of Sofia the First (a Disney Junior show), but with an older main character (Elena) so that it deals with ordeals of a more mature theme, which is why it's on the Disney Channel and not Disney Junior. Like StF there is at least one new song each episode, and they are written to at least sound like Latino music to keep with the feel of Disney's First Latino Princess. There are many other nods to different Latino cultures threw out the show. Which I find enjoyable, as it differentiates Avalor from all other Disney Countries, giving it it's own flair.

Most of the episodes deals with Elena, newly released from the Amulet of Avalor after 41 years, dealing with decisions she has to make as Crown Princess. Elena's still a teenager so things don't always go as planed. There have also been a few villains that come threw, some with magic making her Royal Wizard a necessary helper.

For those who want the backstory of Elena, how she got trapped in an amulet, how she got out etc. you will need to watch the Sofia the First special Elena and the Secret of Avalor, as, like I said, this is a spin off series. (I'm hoping that in the future there will be more crossovers and mention to places and things from StF in EoA).

All in all I think this is a great show, and properly belongs on the Disney Channel and not Disney Junior.

Awesome, period.
amina-5223627 October 2019
Ok, so I'm lowkey confused as to why there are so many not great reviews on this show. Let's just go down this list real quick: -Good Animation? Check -Storyline that makes sense? Check -Music written with culture tones? Check -Characters that we love to love? Check -An interesting plot line? Well I guess it depends on what you're interested in, but for me? Double check In short, this might just be my personal opinion but don't give up on this show. It's a gem and one of the best shows Disney has to offer.

Disney Channel's first TV Princess proves third time's the charm
dinergirlt23 January 2018
Since making her debut in Summer of 2016 Disney Channel has proven itself to making magic happen with Elena Of Avalor and since Elena Of Avalor made it's debut it has become a blockbuster hit with girls everywhere and since it's debut Elena Of Avalor has soared to popularity and has inspired everything from dolls to toys and kids clothing and other merchandise. Although not officially part of the popular Disney Princess line yet Princess Elena is an excellent role model for all ages and in each episode of the show has a wonderful storyline great songs and a lesson for girls to learn. Some episodes deal with many problems girls face today like being a good sport making friends decision making to many real life situations such as starting school and moving to a new house. Craig Gerber really is a genius when it comes to creating great cartoons and with Craig Gerber's neat talent it's no secret Elena Of Avalor is such a inspiring hit cartoon to come out from Disney Channel in years and I hope Disney Channel makes more episodes of Elena Of Avalor in the future because the third time really is the charm for Disney Channel and it's all because of Elena Of Avalor

My Opinion of this Show
sittingindarknessiam3 October 2018
Before I get started with my opinion of this show I just want to say how I look at stories of any kind. First, it's from a writer's perspective as I look at anything like this by the strength, creativity and the fun of the characters as well as the story itself, regardless of whether it is on a stage, in the cinema, on the television or on the page, so it doesn't matter to me if it's live action or animated, if it's directed to a child or adult audience, it only matters to me if the story and the characters are up to a high standard.

Secondly, i look at it from an uncle's viewpoint as I only started watching this show to see if I felt it was good enough for my nieces to watch and found that it wasn't only good enough for them to watch but I found it highly entertaining myself. The weird thing about that is I am a 38 year old man who definitely sees the merit, fun and beauty that is Elena of Avalor. The morals it teaches are top notch and the values of the characters are amazing, especially that of the title character, and her love of her family.

Believe me, I being a grown adult would not ordinarily come out and tell people I love a show for little girls but in this case, I felt the need to let any parents who are on the fence about this show know that at least this one adult highly recommends it. I wish all shows for kids could teach the lessons and morals this show does and not merely exist to be silly or downright foolish, as many shows are nowadays.

Pleasantly surprised.
rosyredtulips14 August 2016
From the promos, I assumed that it would be a Disney Channel version of Sofia The First and that it would only appeal to 5 to 8 year olds and well, I was right and wrong. It has the same animation style as STF and it's also a musical, but I found myself really enjoying it. It has a good message and it's interesting enough. The characters are likable and the songs they sing are actually really good. I like the idea of a Latina princess too, it's really nice. The only request I have is that they should try to make the show appeal more to 9-14 year olds, which I'm guessing is the primary age group of people who even watch Disney Channel. Right now, from what I've seen, it's more of Disney Junior material. That doesn't mean it's a bad show, though. If they succeed in making it more relateable and geared towards the 9-14 age group, I would probably like it way more then I already do. Anyway, it's a good show and I'm glad that Disney Channel is bringing back animated shows.
